Chapter 551 - 445: A Blessing in Disguise
Chapter 551: Chapter 445: A Blessing in Disguise
Lex Cross raised his hand, and a thick, explosive bolt of lightning mixed with black energy struck the Fire Ability User.
Before the man could even cry out, a charred, lifeless corpse lay on the ground.
The corpse of a Nebula Level Fire Ability User, slain by Lex Cross with a flick of his wrist. To the fifty disciples and subordinates the Cross family had brought, this was an act of extreme cruelty and bloodlust.
However, it also made them realize one thing: the immense power required to annihilate a Nebula Level user with a single gesture.
"This..." Graham Cross stared at the Fire Ability User he had always favored, now a corpse in the blink of an eye. He was about to speak when Lex Cross’s voice cut him off with a question.
"Uncle Graham, what do you think of this punishment? Was it too light?"
A chill ran through Graham Cross. "No, no, no. Young Master carried out the sentence himself. It is the punishment he deserved. Not too light. Not too light at all."
Lex Cross walked over to Dana Cross and glanced at her. "Second Uncle’s daughter?"
Dana Cross stared at the charred corpse on the ground, thinking she was next. But when she heard Lex Cross’s calm tone, a wave of relief washed over her.
"Yes, yes! Lex, you still remember me."
"Greed for treasured beasts at the expense of others’ lives—is that what Second Uncle taught you?" Abruptly, a black energy enveloped Dana Cross. In an instant, her body went limp and she collapsed, her face deathly pale.
Seeing this, Heath Cross and Gloria Cross started to step forward to plead for Dana Cross, but Graham Cross held them back.
"Don’t. This is what she deserves."
"Uncle Graham..." Heath and Gloria were stunned. Uncle Graham usually doted on the three of them most. The family’s resources had always been funneled to them first. ’How could he...?’
But Graham Cross saw much further than the younger generation.
Lex Cross’s superpower had advanced considerably, bringing him even closer to becoming a War God. And, unless his old eyes deceived him, that oppressive black energy that made him shudder... was the Devouring System.
Lex Cross, the Cross family’s once-in-ten-thousand-years genius, had broken the shackles of the Ancient Universe and awakened a second superpower: the Devouring System.
What he didn’t know, however, was that the Devouring System was the third superpower Lex Cross had awakened. His second was the Dark Element, which made his combat prowess unparalleled in the dead of night.
Gloria Cross didn’t dare look at Lex Cross, nor did she dare to ask a question. Her eyes filled with tears as she gazed at Dana Cross’s limp form on the ground, then turned a pitiful look to Graham Cross.
"Uncle Graham, Dianna... how is she?"
Graham Cross shook his head and sighed. "Her superpower is gone. Completely. Unless some miracle allows her to start over, she’s now a cripple."
"A cripple?" Gloria Cross’s body swayed. She lowered her head and clenched her small fists, not out of malice, but out of fear.
Dianna had protected her since childhood; she was the most important sister she had. No matter what Dianna had done, to Gloria, she was still one of her most cherished family members.
Finally, as if gathering all her courage, she looked up at Lex Cross.
"Even if Dianna made a mistake, you had no right to cripple her superpower!"
Lex Cross was briefly surprised that a young girl from the Cross family had the nerve to speak to him like that at a time like this. Then, his expression turned icy. "You disagree? You want to stand up for her, or get revenge?"
Gloria Cross clenched her fists, nervous and afraid, her nails digging into her palms. "You’re just a bully, using your high Superpower Level to pick on others! Of course I don’t accept it! If Dianna were on your level, you’d never have been able to hurt her like this!"
Graham Cross never imagined that the normally gentle Gloria would dare speak up for Dana Cross at a time like this. "Gloria, apologize to the Young Master!"
"I’ll apologize... but I still have to say it!"
Lex Cross frowned. He had no time to waste arguing with a little girl. But then he saw Heath Cross step in front of Gloria in a protective stance. Though his face was pale with fear, he still stood his ground bravely.
He gave Heath Cross an approving look.
"Not bad." He then turned to Gloria Cross. "Everyone has someone they want to protect. When you one day possess the power to do as you please, then you can come and stand up for her."
Gloria Cross bit her lip, forcing back the tears that welled in her eyes.
Seeing that Lex Cross didn’t intend to pursue the matter, Heath Cross dropped to one knee and clasped his fist. "Thank you, Young Master, for not holding this against Gloria."
Lex Cross didn’t turn around. "She did nothing wrong. She’s just seeking justice for someone she cares about. As am I.
Uncle Graham, take them to settle in somewhere else. If you’re needed, wait here at the entrance."
"Yes, Young Master."
"Saul, Five, go with them. Use your own judgment about what should and shouldn’t be said."
