Chapter 470 - 403: Refining Metals with True Sun Fire
Chapter 470: Chapter 403: Refining Metals with True Sun Fire
"Yeah, I think Uncle Goldsmith is incredible too. And look at these weapons—they’re much harder than the ones reinforced by ordinary Gold Ability Users."
Winston Goldsmith looked slightly displeased, but he still explained carefully, "I had blacksmiths among my ancestors, and their weapon-making techniques were passed down. But ever since my Gold Ability advanced to a High-level, my feel for how metal melts in fire has become much stronger. I can purify and process different kinds of metals, then forge them into any shape I want!"
Lex Cross leaned against a nearby wall. After a quick glance at the start, he just stood there silently, listening to the two of them chat.
"Mr. Goldsmith, there’s nothing wrong with your forging methods. The weapons you produce are decent, too.
But if you only use ordinary flames and materials, this is the best you can hope for from the weapons you forge."
Winston Goldsmith had always been very confident in his craft. Although Lex’s words made him a little unhappy, his curiosity was piqued, and he asked anyway.
"What do you know about it?"
"I know a thing or two. For a High-level Gold Ability User, weapons forged your way are only marginally better than normal ones. They’re nowhere near strong enough to fight High-level zombies!"
Lex Cross’s words had Winston Goldsmith’s full attention.
"High-level zombies? Have High-level zombies appeared already?" Winston Goldsmith’s tone was urgent. It was clear the possibility of their existence deeply unsettled him.
He was passionate about crafting high-end weapons so the people of the mountain could defend themselves. And he had succeeded, providing everyone at Korsan Base with better defense and attack power.
’But what if High-level zombies really do show up one day?’
Flora Bloom watched Winston Goldsmith working the bellows for the forge. Her bright eyes flickered. "Uncle Goldsmith, High-level zombies appeared a long time ago. I just don’t think there are very many of them."
Flora continued to watch him work. ’He’s a High-level Gold Ability User, yet he’s using his superpower to melt the metal while also exhausting himself physically just to maintain the temperature.’
Flora Bloom thought for a moment. "How about you let me give it a try?"
Flora Bloom pointed to the high-temperature pit where the metal was heating up. Winston Goldsmith hesitated. "You?" He had assumed she was offering to help with the bellows. But then, to his surprise, a small, golden flame suddenly materialized in her palm.
The moment the flame appeared, the temperature in the entire room skyrocketed.
"What is this?" Winston Goldsmith stared at Flora Bloom, his eyes, creased with crow’s feet, wide with shock. "You’re a Fire Ability User? But..." There were plenty of Fire Ability Users in the mountain village, and he had tried letting them use their flames to melt metal for him before.
But while their flames were hot, they couldn’t maintain them for long. The temperature would fluctuate wildly, never holding steady at the level he required.
In the end, he’d always gone back to using the bellows himself to maintain a steady heat.
But Flora Bloom’s flame was different.
True Sun Fire could incinerate anything she wished, including metal.
What set her apart was her ability to control the True Sun Fire’s temperature and intensity—something many High-level Superpower Users couldn’t even do.
With her immensely powerful spiritual power, Flora Bloom could do it with ease.
Flora Bloom pointed to a pile of various metals on the floor that Winston Goldsmith hadn’t put in yet—iron, copper, and other mixed alloys.
"Uncle Goldsmith, just put them all in. Let me try."
Winston Goldsmith instinctively sensed that Flora Bloom’s flame was different. The moment it appeared, the room temperature had soared to a level that made his heart race.
"Alright, you got it!"
Winston Goldsmith kicked the whole pile of metals into the high-temperature pit. Then, Flora Bloom tossed the flame from her palm in after them. The pit flashed with a brilliant golden light, and its walls seemed to harden, as if coated with a layer of metal.
The various metals that had just been thrown in, along with the pieces that hadn’t fully melted before, were all liquified under Flora Bloom’s True Sun Fire in less than three seconds.
That wasn’t all. The molten glob of metal rolled continuously within the pit, shedding its impurities as they either settled or evaporated.
In just ten short seconds, the large chunks of liquid metal were reduced to a few tiny beads, each about the size of a fingernail.
Wrapping her hand in True Sun Fire, Flora Bloom reached in and picked up the five or six small, purified metal pieces.
The six small metal beads rolled in her palm. With a sizzle of spiritual water, they instantly let off puffs of white smoke and solidified.
Winston Goldsmith stared, dumbfounded, at the metal pieces in Flora Bloom’s palm. "I’m a High-level Gold Ability User, and I can feel that these six pieces of metal are in their absolute purest state! My god, how did you do that? Your fire ability is incredible!"
"My fire is pretty special," Flora said. "Uncle Goldsmith, don’t you think metal purified this way is better?"
Lex Cross and Winston Goldsmith each took one of the purified metal pieces from her palm to examine it.
Winston Goldsmith’s expression went from amazement to admiration, and finally, he sighed.
"Sigh... Of course, metal purified to this degree is outstanding. What’s more, your flame is truly formidable—it even imbued the pieces with its energy, bringing their hardness to a whole new level! This is absolutely perfect material for weapons!"
"It’s true. Flora, your True Sun Fire can imbue metals with properties. It’s an excellent forging method." Lex Cross admired the piece for a moment before placing it back in her hand.
"However, the volume is so much smaller after purification. With my current ability, I could only forge a small weapon, like a dagger, or maybe a piece of defensive gear like a gauntlet. I don’t have the skill to make larger weapons or armor with this."
Flora Bloom smiled and exchanged a look with Lex Cross; they both knew what the other was thinking.
"Uncle Goldsmith, the fact that you took it upon yourself to forge weapons for everyone is already incredible!" Flora Bloom opened Winston Goldsmith’s hand and poured the six metal pieces into his palm.
"Uncle Goldsmith, these are for you. Lex and I have to get back to Morhaven Base!"
Winston Goldsmith weighed the metal pieces in his hand, a surprised look on his face. "You’re the one who refined these. How can I take them?"
Flora Bloom smiled. "Uncle Goldsmith, please, don’t be so formal! After all, I just used my superpower to help you melt down some materials.
We’ll have plenty of opportunities to work together in the future!"
Worried that her parents and friends back at the base would be anxious, Flora Bloom quickly said her goodbyes. She and Lex Cross then boarded the Golden Crow and returned to their base.
Soon after, however, Flora Bloom used the Golden Crow to bring communications base station designers and their equipment to Korsan Base.
When Oscar Owen, Winston Goldsmith, and the others saw Flora Bloom and Lex Cross visit again—this time with five people who could help them establish communications—bright smiles bloomed on everyone’s faces.
’If they established communications, it would mean they could contact the outside world at any time. Over time, as people slowly reconnected, could the old social order be restored? Or perhaps, could a new one be built?’
