Chapter 441: Chapter 384: 3 Survivors
On the ground by the Spatial Spirit River, only eight of the nine neatly arranged eggs remained.
A faint trace of green liquid stained the black soil by the Spirit River, clearly left behind when the newborn mantis hatched. As for why the shell itself was missing, the reason was easy to understand.
The four baby crocodiles had also eaten their own eggshells for nutrients after they hatched.
’The little mantis must have done the same.’
Flora Bloom could clearly feel the newborn mantis in the space, and it was very, very close. Yet she searched for ages and just couldn’t find a trace of it.
Even Vert, who had been watching over the nine eggs in the space for the past two days, said it couldn’t find the hatchling either.
This gave Flora Bloom a bit of a headache.
She used her control over the space to teleport to the seaside, then teleported into the mountains to search. Finally, in a valley full of fire beetles, she found a clue.
A whole swarm of fire beetles stretched out before Flora Bloom’s eyes, looking like a wave of red fire.
But in one corner of this fiery red tide, two fire beetles were flying about erratically, bumping into each other in mid-air.
There was nothing chasing them, yet they were fleeing in a panic. It was very strange.
Flora Bloom slowly walked through the swarm of fire beetles, heading toward the two strange ones. What was odd was that, while the two fire beetles darted about like headless flies, all the other fire beetles in their path would flap their wings in fear and scatter.
It was as if the rest of the swarm was also trying to flee from those two fire beetles.
Flora Bloom teleported several times to block the two fire beetles’ path. Finally, after her third teleport, she bumped into a tiny little creature.
Its body flickered in and out of sight as it let out a "SQUEAK SQUEAK" sound, as if protesting that Flora Bloom was blocking its way and making it very uncomfortable.
At last, a palm-sized baby mantis clung to her arm, its body suddenly shifting from transparent to a tender green.
A tender-green mini-Vert had appeared.
Flora Bloom brought it to Vert’s side and placed it on its back. But no sooner had it landed on its mother’s back than it disappeared again.
This time, it vanished right under Flora Bloom’s nose.
This time, however, Flora Bloom noticed a clue.
The connection she felt with her spiritual power hadn’t moved from Vert’s back. Flora Bloom ordered it not to move.
Then she teleported onto Vert’s back, reached out, and grabbed at a seemingly empty spot.
The moment her hand touched a hard limb, the mini-mantis, which looked just like Vert, appeared in the previously empty space.
’No wonder I couldn’t find it. This little guy was born with an invisibility skill, just like The Crown Prince’s tanuki cat.’
And that wasn’t all. Flora Bloom also sensed that the baby mantis had inherited Vert’s Wind Ability. This meant it was a rare, dual-element evolved creature from birth.
Flora Bloom turned her attention to Vert’s other eight eggs and the two eggs from the gyrfalcon she had named Jade Talon. These eggs had originally contained a good amount of Life Energy to help them hatch, but now, all of that Life Energy was gone.
It seemed this hatchling had stolen the Life Energy its siblings needed to incubate, absorbing it all to become the first to break out of its shell.
’Looks like I’ll have to make another trip to the Golden Parasol Tree.’
If not for the matter with Shawn Hale, she had to go for the sake of the unhatched eggs in her space.
Flora Bloom decided to name the newborn mantis Six. The name came from a character in a story, the ’Sixth Brother,’ who was invisible. But considering the hatchling’s sneaky, always-on invisibility, the slang term for a backstabber—’Little Six’—also felt fitting. To keep it simple, she just called it Six.
The moment Six was out of the space, it was overjoyed. It flew straight for the beehive on the wisteria trellis. It seemed the honey produced by the mutated bee colony held an irresistible attraction for all insect-type evolved creatures.
After lunch, Flora Bloom gathered everyone who was still in the villa area into the courtyard and told them about Shawn Hale’s situation.
At first, people like Shauna Wallace and Selina felt it was best not to get involved in other people’s business. But just a few minutes later, Sepherdine arrived at Villa No. 3 with his men.
Sepherdine’s face was grim, his eyes filled with helplessness and frustration.
Only after Flora Bloom and the others asked did they learn that Jed Holden, who had led a hunting party of thirty superpower users, had also disappeared.
