Chapter 438: Chapter 381: My Girlfriend Is Young and Doesn’t Know Any Better (Part 3)
Flora Bloom walked up to Rita. A sarcastic smile suddenly bloomed on her lips as she reached out and snatched the denim outfit from Rita’s hands.
She casually held it, pinching the fabric and looking it over repeatedly.
"The material is good, and the workmanship is decent, too. What a shame!"
"What are you doing? That’s stealing! It’s mine!"
Flora Bloom shot Rita a mocking glance, then tipped her chin toward Caleb. Taking the hint, Caleb handed the bag of food meant for the trade to Sepherdine.
"Captain Sepherdine, my sister wants you to have this! The outfit is ours now!"
Sepherdine wouldn’t dare take something from Flora Bloom. Staring at the bag in his hands, the whole situation felt wrong. "No, no, no. If Captain Bloom likes it, please, just take the outfit as a gift. It’s not worth trading all this food for."
Caleb took the bag back as if it were the most natural thing in the world, then walked over to Lisa and took her hand. "Don’t be sad, Lisa." The little guy only came up to Lisa’s waist, but he had become her closest playmate over this period.
"Okay. I’m not sad."
"In that case, we’ll be on our way." Flora Bloom gave Sepherdine a look that said he was off the hook. Being as sharp as he was, Sepherdine naturally understood.
Unfortunately, someone who had been wronged was not about to let Flora Bloom and her friends off so easily.
"Sepherdine, how could you give the clothes you got for me to someone else! I really liked that outfit, too."
Sepherdine frowned. Clever as he was, how could he not know what Rita was implying? "Rita, just let it go."
Rita had never suffered such an indignity, not even since the start of the apocalypse.
For a woman, vanity is a powerful thing. You can lose anything but the appearance of strength.
"Sepherdine, why are you doing this to me?" Rita’s eyes suddenly filled with indignation as she looked like she was about to burst into tears.
Her youthful, adorable appearance made some of the more dramatic and overprotective superpower users in the crowd want to step forward and defend her, but they were all held back by their companions, whether they knew them or not.
"Don’t get involved in this mess! It’s not worth your life!"
"What could happen? Look at that girl. She clearly paid for it first, it’s not her fault. Isn’t that Flora Bloom being too overbearing? Poor Rita!"
"Hey, just stay out of it. Do you even know who that is?"
"Who?"
"..." The person didn’t say anything, merely holding up three fingers. This was enough to extinguish any impulsive thoughts from the superpower user who had been about to rush in and play the hero.
Three fingers pointed upward could only mean one thing: Villa No. 3.
Suddenly, a man Rita recognized appeared in the crowd. The moment she saw him, she burst into sobs.
"Is there no justice at all in Morhaven Base? Why are you treating me like this! What did I do wrong?"
The man pushed his way through the crowd and rushed to Rita’s side, a look of anxiety on his face. He pulled the weeping girl into his arms.
"Shawn!"
"Rita, I heard you came here with Captain Sepherdine. I was worried about you, so I came to take a look!" Shawn Hale shot Sepherdine a furious glare. "Captain Sepherdine, you’re the one who invited Rita here. What is this? Is this how the leader of a base treats his guests?"
Some of the women in the crowd had already spread the story far and wide. Whether the versions were incomplete or embellished, no matter what Shawn Hale heard, the only conclusion he drew was that Rita had been wronged.
He stared at Flora Bloom, his expression grim and his eyes glinting fiercely. "Captain Bloom. My Rita is still young and doesn’t know any better. Is it really appropriate for a squad captain like you to bicker with a child?"
Behind Flora Bloom, Lex Cross’s Thunder Element energy began to stir, but Flora stopped him. "Don’t get angry. Watch me."
"Calling every man she meets ’brother,’ she’s certainly young, all right. But my Lisa is different. Lisa only has me for a sister—no ’brothers’!"
Shawn Hale froze for a second, then frowned. "But my Rita was the one who paid for the clothes first, wasn’t she?"
"My sister saw it first!"
"But Rita was the one who paid first, correct, Captain Sepherdine?"
Sepherdine glanced at Flora Bloom. Seeing her actually nod at him, he answered uneasily, "It’s true, I paid for Rita first."
A smile played on Shawn Hale’s lips. "Well, that settles it. The clothes belong to my Rita."
Lisa’s heart trembled, deeply moved by Flora’s declaration, "Lisa only has me for a sister." Seeing that they were now at a disadvantage, Lisa grew anxious.
"I saw it first! The stall owner went back on his word!"
Shawn Hale smirked. "If it’s the stall owner’s fault, then isn’t bullying my Rita like this just you people throwing your weight around?"
Flora Bloom turned to the stall owner. "Vendor, do you or do you not admit that my Lisa saw it first?"
The stall owner saw things escalating. If this kept up, he’d be in for more trouble than he could handle. Gritting his teeth and squeezing his eyes shut, he blurted out, "No!"
"You’re lying! You promised me!"
"Then what proof do you have?"
Lisa fell silent. She had no proof.
But Flora Bloom simply maintained a faint smile, her gaze shifting from the stall owner to the triumphant look on Rita’s face.
"In that case, I see no further need to reason with any of you."
