Chapter 436 - 381: My Girlfriend Is Still Young and Doesn’t Know Any Better

Chapter 436: Chapter 381: My Girlfriend Is Still Young and Doesn’t Know Any Better

Sepherdine took Rita for a stroll through the market, explaining the rules of the trading post one by one. He did this for one simple reason: she was one of the five leaders of the base’s new factions.

He had gotten this far not only thanks to Flora Bloom’s support but also because he knew how to network. The other four captains of the new factions were busy leading their teams on hunts every day. Only this girl, Rita, stayed behind at the base, managing her team’s logistics and other minor affairs.

Rita followed Sepherdine through the market, her face a mask of innocent curiosity. Internally, however, she was incredibly conflicted.

’I used to think Sepherdine was the epitome of good looks in Morhaven Base, but after seeing Lex Cross, I realize I was too hasty.’

’Still, Sepherdine is the leader of Morhaven Base, so being a little less handsome doesn’t really matter. It’s a shame about Lex Cross, though. He’s strong and built, with looks that are off the charts, yet he’s just some pretty boy being kept by Flora Bloom.’

’What a waste.’

’No need to rush. Once I have Sepherdine under my thumb, the whole base will be mine. And then, naturally, so will Lex Cross.’

The two continued walking when suddenly, Rita saw a denim set hanging at a stall. It was a denim vest with a pair of denim hot pants. It looked fashionable and unique.

So she turned to Sepherdine and said, "Sepherdine, I want to go take a look over there."

When they reached the stall, Rita picked up the denim set and held it against her body. A mirror was taped to the narrow wall between that stall and the next.

"Sepherdine, look! Do you think I’d look good in this?"

Sepherdine looked at the naive, lively, and somewhat flighty girl, then nodded. "It’s nice. Owner, how much for this?"

’Even if it’s just to win Rita over, it’s only a set of clothes,’ he thought. He knew how to play the game.

When the stall owner saw that it was Sepherdine, the base leader, he didn’t dare ask for much. He only quoted the price of a single bowl of rice.

Just as Sepherdine waved over a subordinate to pay the price, Caleb and Lisa appeared at the stall, out of breath.

"Owner, where’s my denim set? I brought the flour and beast meat for you!"

Hearing her voice, the stall owner’s expression soured.

"Huh? Owner, where’s the denim set? Did you put it away somewhere?"

’The denim set?’

Sepherdine glanced at the outfit in Rita’s hands, then at Lisa as she searched for it. His heart sank.

’Oh no, don’t tell me...’

The stall owner spoke up before Sepherdine could. "Hey there, little lady. Bad luck for you. This outfit has already been claimed by this young woman here!"

Lisa frowned. "But we had a deal yesterday! You were supposed to hold it for me!"

The stall owner looked apologetic, his eyes conveying a look of helplessness. He’d actually wanted to sell to Lisa—after all, he would have gotten a pound of meat and three pounds of flour, which was worth far more than a bowl of rice.

But Sepherdine was the base leader, so what could he do?

Getting a bowl of rice out of it was still a pretty good deal. Besides, currying favor with the base leader would benefit him in the long run.

"What? How could you sell it to someone else? Didn’t we have a deal yesterday?" Lisa wasn’t about to let it slide. "How could you go back on your word like that?"

The owner had felt a little guilty at first, but the girl’s words instantly rubbed him the wrong way.

"Hey, watch your mouth, little girl. My wares are top quality, and sales are first come, first served, aren’t they? This young woman got here first, so of course I’m selling it to her!"

"Bullshit! If we’re talking first come, first served, I was here yesterday! You should have sold it to me!"

The stall owner looked at the easily provoked girl before him with pure contempt. "Why is a little girl like you so vain? I told you it’s already sold, but you still insist I sell it to you! I bet that food in your hands is stolen, isn’t it?"

The malicious smile on the stall owner’s face widened. "Guard Squad! Someone get the Guard Squad! We’ve got thieves here!"

Just then, ten of Sepherdine’s own trusted men surrounded them. Breaking out in a sweat, he looked at them and said, "Stand down. We’ll handle this ourselves."

"Yes, Captain!"

The ten men answered in unison, looking exceptionally well-trained. These were the warriors Sherman Lynch had helped him train. Not only were they superpower users, but they had also undergone special military training, making them top-notch in terms of willpower, physical fitness, and obedience.

When Rita saw how formidable this ten-man squad was, and how obediently they followed Sepherdine’s commands, she became even more certain that she’d chosen the right man.
