Chapter 2781: Report The Lee Family’s Situation

Chapter 2781: Chapter 2781: Report The Lee Family’s Situation

A middle-aged man stood at the centre of the gathering, speaking with an air of absolute authority while the others listened attentively to his every word. Judging by the deferential attitude of the men surrounding him, Yu Qi instantly deduced that he was the supreme commander on site.

A few seconds later, one of the subordinates stepped forward and addressed him directly.

"Mr Vaughn..."

Yu Qi and Long Hui instinctively exchanged a swift glance. Mr. Vaughn...? Could this man be the Hector Vaughn that Richard Lee had desperately blabbed about during his brutal interrogation? If that was the case, then this man was indeed Hector Vaughn, the high-ranking operative who had taken over managing the Lee Family’s human trafficking pipeline for the MicroTech Organisation after Edward Potter had been captured by Yu Qi and Long Hui.

Before either of them could dwell on it further, another subordinate sprinted frantically toward Hector Vaughn, breathing heavily. He leaned in close and urgently whispered something into his ear.

The moment Hector Vaughn absorbed the message, his composure shattered, his face twisting dramatically.

"What?" Hector Vaughn’s voice dropped several degrees, becoming icy cold. "Are you absolutely certain about this?"

"Yes, Sir." The subordinate nodded vigorously, sweat beading on his forehead. "I have just received direct confirmation from our sleeper assets on the mainland."

Hector Vaughn narrowed his eyes into dangerous slits.

"Come with me inside. You’d better explain every single detail clearly." Hector Vaughn said and then turned his harsh gaze toward the rest of the group. "The rest of you, return to your patrol sectors immediately."

"Yes, Sir!" The group dispersed instantly without daring to ask a single question.

Hector Vaughn and the reporting subordinate turned and briskly entered the main facility. Yu Qi and Long Hui silently glided right behind them. Just as Hector Vaughn went to slam his office door shut, the invisible duo slipped inside without causing so much as a ripple in the air.

Click.

The door locked tight.

Hector Vaughn marched around his mahogany desk and sat down heavily in his leather chair, his face dark and extremely grim. He locked his intense gaze onto the subordinate standing nervously before him.

"Now..." Hector Vaughn barked. "Explain everything from the beginning."

"Sir... what I reported outside is 100% verified. I have just received the latest emergency transmission from our network on the mainland." The subordinate took a deep, shaky breath.

"What happened?" Hector Vaughn laced his fingers together tightly on the desk.

"We still don’t know who exposed the operation." The subordinate lowered his head, unable to meet his eyes. "But... the entire Lee Family has been swept up in a massive state raid overnight. Every single core member is currently sitting in maximum-security state custody. Worse... all of our pending merchandise at the docks has been seized."

BANG!

Hector Vaughn slammed his fist onto the heavy desk, rattling the monitors.

"Shit!" Hector Vaughn roared, veins bulging on his forehead. "What the hell was that old fool Albert Lee doing?! How on earth did they manage to get themselves wiped out overnight?!"

His expression darkened into pure rage.

"Mr Vaughn, one of our undercover spies inside the Smith Family overheard something critical during a high-level private council." The subordinate hesitated for a brief second before pressing on.

"What did he hear?" Hector Vaughn snapped his head up instantly.

"The elders mentioned a specific recording." The subordinate revealed. "It appears the Lee Family was completely dismantled because of an unedited voice confession."

"A recording? What kind of recording?" Hector Vaughn’s brow furrowed tightly.

"We don’t know the exact contents yet, Sir. Our asset could not get close enough to intercept the full file." The subordinate slowly shook his head in defeat.

A heavy, suffocating silence descended upon the office.

"It has to be directly connected to their illegal transactions with us. There is literally nothing else in this country with enough weight to obliterate an untouchable Great Family overnight." Hector Vaughn leaned back slowly into his chair, his eyebrows knitted in intense concentration. His grim expression grew increasingly dark as he pieced the terrifying reality together. "It seems our core operations here may already be compromised."

"Then... does that mean the state task forces will eventually trace the trail back to this island as well? What should we do now, Sir?" The subordinate’s face turned completely bloodless.

Hector Vaughn did not answer immediately. Instead, he lowered his head, slipping into deep, anxious thought. Deep down in his chest, he desperately prayed that his worst suspicions were wrong. Because if that recording truly contained explicit details regarding the human trafficking pipeline between the Lee Family and the MicroTech Organisation, then this heavily fortified island would not remain a safe haven for very much longer.

Hector Vaughn remained silent for nearly an entire minute. The office was so suffocatingly quiet that only the faint, mechanical humming of the air conditioner echoed in the space. The subordinate stood rigidly at attention, scarcely daring to breathe, let alone interrupt his superior’s thought process.

Finally, Hector Vaughn slowly raised his head, his eyes cold and sharp.

"How much do the authorities actually know?" Hector Vaughn demanded.

"We are still attempting to verify the exact scope, Sir." The subordinate answered truthfully, a bead of sweat tracing down his temple. "However, judging by the terrifying speed of the Lee Family’s downfall, the state must have secured undeniable, bulletproof evidence. Otherwise, they would never have dared to move against one of the untouchable Four Great Families so recklessly."

"No... they would not move with this level of absolute aggression if they only possessed circumstantial evidence. It is getting dangerous." Hector Vaughn muttered, his eyes narrowing into razor-thin slits.
