Reborn As Super Heiress

Chapter 2515 - 2417: The Old House

Chapter 2515: Chapter 2417: The Old House

The boss was sighing to himself at first, but soon enough he came around. No matter what, he’d gotten his hands on that steering wheel and even driven the car once. Just for that, today was already worth it.

Take this story out and he’d have bragging rights for at least half a year.

He carefully helped the people in the car out and escorted them into rooms at his inn, and he was afraid these important guests wouldn’t be satisfied with their stay, so he did his utmost to offer every service he could.

There wasn’t much he could do about the rest; the conditions here were just like this. The town’s economic level was what it was, there weren’t any good hotels to choose from. If anyone tried to open a five?star hotel here, they could just wait to go bankrupt.

Huo Sining had already looked around the inn; the conditions were about the same as the place they’d stayed last night. Basically, this was as high?end as you could get in town, nothing to really nitpick. One way or another, it was already good enough that this group had a place to sleep.

The boss himself wasn’t bad. Apart from the way he kept staring, eyes glued and hungry, at the two military vehicles parked outside the door after they came in, there really wasn’t much else to criticize.

The boss worked actively and enthusiastically, and Huo Sining was generous with her money in turn. She paid him a hefty extra service fee and told him all he needed to do was look after those young men properly.

According to the plan, Huo Sining and the others had intended to sweep the graves in Xiakan Village today and then leave directly, but who knew there’d be a twist and something like this would happen.

With all that commotion at Yingfeng Shanyuan, Huo Sining figured that by now the whole of Xiakan Village must have heard about it, and it wouldn’t be long before the entire village, and even this small town, was awash in rumors.

For the Wu Jun siblings, talk didn’t really matter; they didn’t live here anymore anyway. But when it came to their parents’ grave and remains, that couldn’t just be shrugged off.

So Wu Jun definitely wasn’t going to leave in the short term. He had to wait until the matter was investigated clearly and his parents’ bones were found.

That was only human. Huo Sining could fully understand it—anyone would do the same, let alone that Wu Jun’s parents had been murdered, dying so senselessly.

The deaths of Wufu Wumu had weighed on Wu Jun these years with who?knows?how?many accusations; the pressure had already been heavy. And now something like this had happened again. The fact that he could still control himself and hadn’t killed Lei De on the spot already counted as very rational.

Huo Sining wasn’t about to suggest leaving at a time like this. She was still waiting for Du Wenfeng to give her a satisfactory outcome, and she had plenty of time anyway; the International Orchid Exhibition exchange meeting was still a long way off.

Since they’d be staying regardless, Wu Jun simply went and checked out of the hotel they’d stayed in yesterday, moving everyone’s luggage over to the inn where Yu Fei and the others were staying.

Huo Sining told Gu Xu about what had happened later that morning at Yingfeng Shanyuan, and Gu Xu more or less grasped the situation. After a brief silence, he said they should wait and see first; if Du Wenfeng’s handling wasn’t satisfactory, then he’d bring it up with Wu Shaoqing.

Wu Shaoqing was the top leader of Yun Province, and he was the one who’d appointed Du Wenfeng to come down and deal with this incident. After all, it was within his jurisdiction, and this bit of face, Gu Xu had to give him; he couldn’t bypass him to handle the matter.

Huo Sining also understood there were some complicated personal relationships involved, so she didn’t interfere much, just waited for their side’s result.

However, they hadn’t been settled in for long when Wu Jun suddenly came knocking, saying he wanted to go back to the village to take another look.

Wu Jun wanted to go alone and asked Huo Sining to keep an eye on his younger sister Wu Ya, but after thinking it over, Huo Sining felt that since she was just going to be idling in the inn anyway, she might as well go along. If something really did happen, at least there’d be someone there to back him up.

If someone else had said that, Wu Jun would probably have snorted—who was going to back him up? It’d be good enough if they didn’t drag him down.

But since it was Huo Sining saying it, Wu Jun didn’t doubt her sincerity in the least.

After all, the sight from that morning of Huo Sining calmly holding a Browning and facing down a group of black?clad bruisers was still vivid before his eyes. He trusted completely that if something really happened, this girl’s combat power would absolutely outstrip his.

And she’d fired two shots and nothing had happened at all—she’d just waved that officer ID in front of the SWAT team, and the SWAT captain obediently picked up the Browning she’d dropped on the ground and respectfully handed it back to her.

Even Du Wenfeng, the municipal party secretary, had kept his expression perfectly mild as he said he’d handle the report and there was no need for Huo Sining to worry, as if what she’d been playing with wasn’t a handgun but fireworks.

It was only because Wu Jun had seen too much over the years and gotten used to such things that he could stay composed now. Otherwise, if he’d suddenly witnessed something like that, he’d never have been this calm.

Since Huo Sining insisted on coming along, Wu Ya naturally had to be brought as well. The innkeeper had already taken Huo Sining’s money, and when he heard they were going out, he thumped his chest on the spot and promised to look after Yu Fei and the others, guaranteeing there’d be no problem.

Huo Sining could tell that although this innkeeper loved money a bit, his gaze was clear and he had no crooked intentions. He was a very ordinary but fairly upright person. So when he said he’d take care of Yu Fei and the others, Huo Sining felt quite at ease, not worried he’d say one thing to their face and do another behind their backs.

If you’ve got a car there’s no need to be a fool and walk. The town was several kilometers from Xiakan Village, so Wu Jun didn’t stand on ceremony; he simply drove one of the jeeps Yu Fei’s group had brought and headed for Xiakan Village.

Only, as they pulled out of the inn’s gate, the innkeeper was standing there like a fool, his face full of envy, jealousy, and resentment, which made Huo Sining laugh.

Getting the vehicle into the village took no more than ten minutes. This time, as they passed the gate of Yingfeng Shanyuan, Wu Jun just floored the accelerator and shot past, not stopping at all.

Once they were inside the village, the cement road vanished, just as expected. Evidently Lei De had only paved the road up to his tea garden gate, just so the tea could be shipped out of the garden in time.

They twisted and turned along a truly terrible dirt track, jouncing all the way until finally they pulled up in front of a ruin of a house.

Huo Sining was still wondering about it when Wu Jun and Wu Ya jumped out of the car together.

"We’re here!" Wu Jun called to Huo Sining.

Huo Sining got out as well, her gaze falling on the ramshackle house before her.

The place was already smothered in weeds, clearly long uninhabited. With years of disrepair, part of the house had already collapsed; all she could see were broken walls and scattered rubble, so ruined it was impossible to make out what it had once looked like.

She looked over at Wu Jun and Wu Ya—his face as dark and still as water, eyes deep; hers brimming with tears, visibly grief?stricken. What else could it be?

From the looks of it, this was the old Wu Family home.
