Chapter 1075: Chapter 1072: Starting Over
“Alright, I’ve finished washing up; we can head back immediately,” Ye Muyu nodded.
Chu Heng had already made arrangements for the two children, and even for the guest Zhao Qingqing, after giving his instructions, he extended his hand to Ye Muyu.
Ye Muyu hesitated for a moment but still placed her hand in his palm. Using his support, she got into the carriage directly.
Chu Heng followed right after her, and as soon as he got in, the carriage started moving.
“Don’t worry, it’s good news,” Chu Heng saw her somewhat distracted and occasionally furrowing her brows, guessing she was overthinking.
Her lively demeanor caused a stir in his desolate heart, as if it had begun to flutter.
Ye Muyu realized what he was talking about, first nodded her head, then realized something was amiss and explained, “I’m not scared. All the grain varieties, we’ve handed them over to the imperial court.”
Apart from keeping a small amount for seeds, she hadn’t hoarded any. Next year they would harvest another crop, perhaps they could sell first to the nobility and make a profit in silver.
As for the common people, the government was in charge of distributing the seeds uniformly.
“Hmm, you’ve worked hard.”
Ye Muyu felt that Chu Heng’s demeanor had changed again, making her a bit uncomfortable, so she quickly looked for a topic to discuss, “By the way, I was drunk last night. I didn’t do anything, did I?”
As she spoke, she furrowed her brows, really, that morning Su Mei had been hesitating as she combed her hair. Ye Muyu had been just about to ask when the matter of the Imperial Decree came up.
Chu Heng looked up, his gaze involuntarily falling on her neck. Recalling her body in the dim light of last night, his eyes darkened, yet he kept his composure well, “Do you want me to tell the truth or a lie?”
He poured a cup of tea, sipped it at his lips, and asked as if it were a serious matter.
Ye Muyu was stunned: “…” Had she really done something inappropriate last night? But she only felt sleepy, and her body wasn’t sore or aching.
“The truth,” Ye Muyu said tentatively.
Chu Heng looked up, his gaze now unabashedly on her, “You fell asleep in the bathtub.”
“Oh, that’s fine then,” Ye Muyu sighed in relief, patting her chest hurriedly.
But unexpectedly, she then heard Chu Heng’s slow and deliberate voice, with a hint of playfulness, “In helping you up, I accidentally saw…”
Ye Muyu felt her heart pounding nonstop; her breathing nearly froze. Piecing together his words, an image instantly flashed across her mind, and her cheeks turned crimson in an instant, “Stop, stop talking.”
If Su Mei and Chun Xing were present right now, they would surely retort loudly: The master is the one with scheming thoughts.
It was clearly intentional, yet made out to be accidental.
Ye Muyu reached for the water pouch and took a sip to quell the blush on her face. She simply leaned against the carriage wall, putting some distance between herself and Chu Heng.
Perhaps because of the awkward topic before, Chu Heng noticed her silence and also quietly flipped through a book, not bothering her, allowing Ye Muyu’s emotions to stabilize a bit.
As he was tidying up his hair, he suddenly looked up, earnestness shading his ink-black eyes, “If I can’t remember anymore, would you be disappointed?”
Ye Muyu was caught off guard, not expecting him to ask this question. Honestly, she found herself thinking about it whenever she had free time, but she couldn’t control Chu Heng’s situation, and it always led to self-inflicted distress.
Over time, she subconsciously tried to avoid the question.
“I don’t know,” Ye Muyu admitted with a moment of confusion, yet her words were sincere.
Chu Heng’s gaze landed on her face, “If I can’t remember, then let’s start over.”
This was the decision he had come to after thinking it through the previous night.
Ye Muyu looked at him in astonishment, “What do you mean?”
