Chapter 604 - 603: Time Reveals a Person’s True Colors
Chapter 604: Chapter 603: Time Reveals a Person’s True Colors
"Mr. Yan, I know you don’t want to see me right now. I’ll just say a few words and won’t take up too much of your time."
Meng Huaxin looked haggard and his eyes were bloodshot, but his back was still straight and his hair was impeccably styled.
"I have already submitted my resignation to the organization. I’ll be leaving in a few days."
Meng Huaxin studied the expressionless Yan Feifan and said, "Mr. Yan, I truly admire your talent."
"It’s just that..."
Meng Huaxin let out a long sigh. "You had already picked a side and were someone Liu Jin relied upon. As an executive brought in from the outside to lead the reforms at the Affiliated Hospital, my only option was to suppress you to some extent."
"But things didn’t go as planned. My campaign was over before it ever truly began."
"The task of revitalizing this overloaded, stagnant old ship that is the Affiliated Hospital, and getting it to sail smoothly and swiftly... that work will have to be left to a more capable successor."
Meng Huaxin sighed again with a pained expression, then seemed to rally, his gaze sharp as he met Yan Feifan’s eyes.
"Mr. Yan, whether you believe me or not, I have to warn you..."
He said with a grave expression, "Liu Jin... he isn’t genuinely protecting you or treating you well. He’s just using you."
"To put it bluntly, you are only useful to him."
Meng Huaxin added, his voice agitated, "Liu Jin is a hypocrite—friendly on the surface but sinister underneath. I’m not wrong about him!"
Noticing the scornful look on Yan Feifan’s face, Meng Huaxin suddenly felt deflated.
He said, disheartened, "You might think I’m trying to sow discord, but what I’m saying is the truth."
"I’ve said my piece."
Meng Huaxin added, still unwilling to let it go, "Time reveals a person’s true character. You’ll find out what kind of person Liu Jin really is one day..."
With that, he turned and left.
Yan Feifan watched Meng Huaxin’s somewhat dejected back as he walked away, but he didn’t take his so-called heartfelt parting words to heart.
’Liu Jin is using me?’
Although Yan Feifan was relatively naive, he understood that in the adult world, there was no such thing as unconditional kindness or sacrifice.
’So-called friendship was just a matter of mutual benefit, with each person getting what they needed...’
After leaving the neurosurgery inpatient building, Yan Feifan first went to the ninth floor of the Little Red House. He found his office door was perfectly intact, not removed and replaced as Xv Fang had said.
He used the fingerprint lock to open the door and saw Feng Jian, who had been sitting behind the desk using the computer, stand up.
"The door?"
Feng Jian replied, "Mr. Yan, I asked the nurse on duty. She said a group of people came first thing this morning and put it back."
He then handed an ID card and a SIM card to Yan Feifan.
"Mr. Yan, this is the replacement SIM card."
Yan Feifan went into the inner office and sat down in his chair. He gently rubbed the swollen, aching wound on his left calf through his pants, then put the new replacement SIM card into the phone he’d brought back from the United States.
The moment the SIM card was in, the phone’s various notification sounds began to chime incessantly, like a torrential downpour, almost merging into a single continuous tone.
The screen was flooded by a waterfall of message notifications and text alerts.
Yan Feifan knew without looking that all these messages and missed call alerts were from people who cared about him, asking if he was safe.
Being cared for by so many people made Yan Feifan’s heart feel warm.
But with so many messages and call alerts, it wasn’t practical for Yan Feifan to go through and reply to them one by one.
He figured that since the Affiliated Hospital had already issued statements dispelling the rumors through all its official channels, and since he had appeared at the hospital and met with so many people, everyone should already know he had returned safely.
Therefore, Yan Feifan didn’t bother with the messages and texts anymore.
He turned on his desktop computer, projected the video of old Mr. Guo Qi’s tongue correction surgery onto the newly installed high-definition screen on the wall, and began to observe and study it...
For lunch, Yan Ziruo and Yu Suye brought takeout from the cafeteria, and the three of them ate together in Yan Feifan’s office.
During the meal, Yan Ziruo indignantly told Yan Feifan that she’d suddenly realized why Liu Jin, Qin Ying, and the others had made a special trip to the airport to pick him up yesterday.
"They don’t trust me!"
As if she’d been insulted, Yan Ziruo said huffily, "Feifan, you have no idea. After word got out about that lawyer’s letter yesterday, people started looking at me differently."
"Even my own officemates were secretly giving me suspicious looks."
"They probably thought the news I told them—that you were fine—was a lie, that I was just stalling for time to transfer your assets."
"Deep down, Liu Jin and Qin Ying must have thought the same thing, which is why they had to go to the airport to see for themselves."
Yan Feifan chuckled. "We can’t control what other people think, so there’s no need to worry about it."
"Now that I’m back, what they think doesn’t matter."
Yan Ziruo huffed, still fuming. "They’re just projecting their own twisted minds onto me. As if I’d need to transfer your assets!"
"Most of the money you earn, Feifan, is already in my name."
"Like the villa at Phoenix Mountain Villa, half the shares in Extraordinary Technology Company, and the shares in Meng’s Private Kitchen."
"And I’m also the one who manages the money in your bank accounts, which I can access freely."
At this point, Yan Ziruo looked at Yu Suye and asked directly, "Su Ye, does any of this make you uncomfortable?"
"This is all money your future husband worked so hard to earn, after all."
Yu Suye’s eyes curved into a smile. "Sis," she asked, "if I said I was uncomfortable, would you return all those assets to Feifan?"
"Not a chance!"
Yan Ziruo shook her little fist and declared playfully, "Once Feifan gives it to me, it’s mine! I’ll fight anyone who tries to take it to the death."
Yu Suye giggled. "Sis, you’re Feifan’s only sister. I don’t care how much he gives you."
"As long as Feifan himself belongs to me."
"Besides, I can earn my own money. I don’t need Feifan to support me."
Yan Ziruo nodded in satisfaction. "Now that’s more like it."
"Su Ye, you’ve really hit the jackpot. With Feifan’s ability to make money, earning a few hundred million for you and your future kids will be child’s play for him."
"Oh, Feifan..."
Yan Ziruo then turned to her brother. "The forty-million transfer request for the Extraordinary Fund has been withdrawn."
"And Mr. Hao’s project application has also been withdrawn."
Before Yan Feifan could respond, Yu Suye chuckled. "The moment Feifan shows up, everything just gets set right without him having to do a thing."
"Feifan, you’ve got some serious clout!"
Yan Feifan laughed lightly. "I just got back what was rightfully mine. It’s not about being powerful."
Yu Suye giggled. "Making people spit out the juicy prize they’d already swallowed? I’d say you’re plenty powerful."
After a short pause, Yu Suye continued, "Feifan, my aunt, Mrs. Lian, is bringing some technicians from her company to the hospital tomorrow to set up the surgical robot showroom. She wants to have dinner with you."
Yan Feifan hummed in acknowledgment.
The Affiliated Hospital’s observation seminar on puncture and injection surgery for intraspinal and brain tumors was scheduled to begin this Friday.
Starting tomorrow, attendees would begin to arrive.
Although this observation seminar would be split between two venues, its scale and prestige were much greater than the last surgical observation conference held by the plastic surgery center.
Fortunately, Yan Feifan didn’t have to worry about the organizational details of the conference; he just needed to perform the surgeries.
After lunch, Yan Ziruo and Yu Suye rested in the office for a while before heading back to work.
Yan Feifan also resumed his study of the uvula correction surgery.
What he didn’t know was that out in the hallway, just outside his office door, someone was wrestling with a difficult decision.
Pan Jichuan, a young doctor from the General Surgery Department, stood outside Yan Feifan’s office, hesitating. In one hand, he carried a small preservation case filled with vascular tissues; in the other, a surgical instrument case.
That day, he had given his spot in the queue for the library’s media room to Yan Feifan and, in return, had received a promise that Yan Feifan would give him some pointers on his vascular suturing technique.
However, due to a sudden emergency surgery, Yan Feifan hadn’t ended up using the spot.
Even so, Pan Jichuan had originally planned to swallow his pride and use the opportunity to build a connection with Yan Feifan.
But then, Yan Feifan had been in that shocking, near-fatal accident and had also injured his leg.
’Would it be tactless and insensitive to shamelessly show up and ask for help now? Wouldn’t that just annoy him, or even make him disgusted?’
’But if I miss this chance, will I ever get another one?’
Pan Jichuan stared at the closed door, so near, his heart in absolute turmoil.
’To knock, or not to knock?’
