Chapter 1053 Changes
Chapter 1053: Chapter 1053 Changes
Shun Long watched Fu Li barrel toward the front of the shop, shouting orders with the urgency of a general rallying his troops. The courtyard quickly returned to a quiet calm as the fatty disappeared through the back door, his voice still echoing about "restocking the shelves before the vultures tear the place down."
Shaking his head, Shun Long smiled and turned his gaze toward the rest.
Liu Mei sat with her hands folded in her lap, her delicate frame covered by her ink-black hair. The faint smile on her lips became even more pronounced as she looked at him, her eyes curving into two crescent slits. For a moment, even the sun seemed to dim as the peerlessly beautiful young woman stood up and walked towards him.
"Long-ge! Congratulations!"
Since he stepped into the courtyard, Shun Long had stopped suppressing his cultivation, allowing Xingyi and the others to notice his breakthrough.
He was now a peak-stage Dao King, as well.
Jiang Chen leaned back against the tree trunk, his arms crossed over his chest, as he calmly nodded his head. Forget about becoming a peak rank 9 Dao King, even if Shun Long became an Emperor, he wouldn’t bat an eye.
At this point, Jiang Chen was certain that if Shun Long didn’t try to spend so much time fortifying his foundations, he could have probably reached even the middle stages of the Dao Emperor realm by now!
Xingyi looked at him with a smile of her own, before the blonde young woman stepped forward as well.
Seeing how everyone had returned within the expected time frame of one month and were even waiting for him, Shun Long could tell that the missions they’d chosen from the Lunar Grave guild hadn’t posed them any real trouble.
Of course, this was only natural. The four of them were all peak-stage Dao Kings who had taken on Wraith-class missions. Even the most difficult among those missions would only target late-stage Dao Kings, so how could Jiang Chen and the others possibly struggle with them? Aside from a few monsters like ’young lady Niu’, or Huang Yun, the young master of the ancient Huang family, Shun Long knew that there were no other Dao Kings who could fight them at the same level of cultivation.
Wraith-class missions were dangerous to most Dao Kings, but unless they came face to face with an early-stage Dao Emperor, Jiang Chen and the others’ safety was basically guaranteed.
Shun Long stepped forward, his footsteps echoing softly against the polished stones. He took a seat under the shade of the giant tree’s canopy and glanced at the youth who was resting against the tree’s trunk, before he asked with a grin
"So? How was it?"
Jiang Chen didn’t answer right away. He sat down opposite Shun Long and fell silent for a moment, as if recalling the details of his mission, before he answered seriously
"The mission itself was too easy. Dealing with a corrupt elder from a third-rate sect wasn’t the issue. It’s the rest of the assassins who take on the same mission that can be a bit problematic."
Jiang Chen proceeded to explain how he’d ended up clashing with three other members of the Lunar Grave guild fighting over the same target, only for him to barely beat them to the punch.
Still, Shun Long knew what the devilish youth was trying to say. It was one thing to have to fight against other Dao Kings, but if Jiang Chen wanted to take on any higher-level missions and ended up fighting against, not just his own target, but also other Dao Emperors from the Lunar Grave guild, things could indeed become a bit messy.
Bai Longtian’s mission ended up being no different. Other members of the guild were already lying in wait by the time he found his target— in a small forest not that far from Amber Dawn. Thankfully, with the augmentation from his Dao of Light, his speed was basically top-tier among Dao Kings, allowing him to finish the mission before anyone even realized what was going on.
Liu Mei’s and Xingyi’s situations were a bit unique.
Xingyi was basically a born assassin, so Shun Long wasn’t worried about her in the slightest. With her ’Vanishing Shadows unique physique’, sneaking up on another Dao King that was even weaker than her and taking him out was practically child’s play.
As for Liu Mei, well... although her skillset wasn’t really suited for assassinations, Shun Long could only pity the poor soul who had to deal with an entire undead army chasing him down.
Still, things were progressing at a rapid rate. In fact, as long as Lunar Grave didn’t actively meddle with its missions and continued to let its members do as they please, Shun Long was confident he would be able to take over the entire guild soon enough.
Well, as long as the Amber Dawn Sovereign or the Twilight Sovereign’s guild didn’t catch whiff of what he was trying to do first.
...
Time quickly passed, and in the blink of an eye, a year had already gone by in Amber Dawn.
A year wasn’t really a long time in the cultivation world. In fact, it was so short that most cultivators would often spend that in seclusion, emerging only to find the world exactly as they’d left it. They wouldn’t even finish a breakthrough of a single minor realm within that timeframe.
However, the changes that had occurred in this last year, not just in the city of Amber Dawn, but in the entire central continent, were so significant they had already turned multiple major cities upside down.
At the back of his shop, in one of the private rooms, Shun Long had just finished concocting a new batch of pills and was about to emerge from his seclusion, when Jiang Chen and a dozen black-robed people appeared outside his door.
And just like Jiang Chen, every single one of those figures was also a peak rank 9 Dao King.
