Chapter 309 - 69: Knight Charge

Chapter 309: Chapter 69: Knight Charge

The Beastman Officer looked at the anxious Elder Linton, baffled at first.

But soon, the Beastman Officer also felt it—a deep rumbling that shook the earth.

Just then, a long, sharp cry tore through the sky from the distance. Shocked, Elder Linton snapped his head up, his gaze fixed on Wayne Mountain.

"That cry!" Elder Linton exclaimed. There was no mistaking it. During his studies in the Moon Elf Kingdom, he had heard archaeologists mimic that very sound. ’It’s like a phoenix...’

’It’s really white? What’s going on?’ Elder Linton wondered, staring at the white speck flying toward him from over the mountain.

He remembered reading about it in the other Warriors’ reports: a silvery-white phoenix.

"Elder? Elder? What do we do now?" the Beastman Officer asked Elder Linton anxiously. ’I can’t believe his pedantic habits would kick in at a time like this.’

Elder Linton snapped out of it.

"Don’t panic... Stick to the plan."

As soon as he finished speaking, Elder Linton spun around and went to the center of the Magic Array. He placed his hands on his Magic Wand and began to chant.

In an instant, Elder Linton’s aura erupted. Guided by his Spiritual Power, the surrounding fluorescent blue magical presence flowed ceaselessly into the Magic Wand.

A steady stream of Magic Energy flowed from the Magic Wand into the Magic Array. Wisps of fluorescent blue light spread out from the base of the wand, channeling the Magic Energy through the pre-arranged magical components in all directions.

Only then was Linton’s true level revealed—he was a Level 8 Mage!

Unfortunately, the powerful aura didn’t last. A moment later, it plummeted. Elder Linton had suffered a grievous injury thirty years ago, leaving him unable to wield even a tenth of his full power.

The surrounding Beastman Extraordinary Infantry watched Elder Linton nervously.

"O great Lord of the Elements... O gods who command space..."

"Hah!"

Elder Linton let out a sharp cry. The Scroll before him suddenly levitated and began to unfurl on its own.

The Scroll soared into the sky, its glow shifting from blue to red. Seeing this, the Beastman Officer grabbed a nearby box and scattered all the Magic Crystals inside onto the ground.

The instant the Magic Crystals touched the ground, their power was siphoned away by the Scroll in the sky.

The Scroll channeled the energy through Elder Linton and into the Array below.

RUMBLE...

The thunder of the human cavalry grew louder. In his peripheral vision, Elder Linton could see the white phoenix drawing nearer and nearer.

"Faster! Hurry!" Elder Linton roared, his voice distorting under the strain of the immense Magic Power coursing through him.

"The phoenix is here! The phoenix is here!"

The Beastman Warriors scrambled to work faster, but a piercing cry suddenly echoed from the heavens.

Elder Linton looked up. The white phoenix was about to dive on them.

It circled once overhead, then shrieked, spewing a torrent of flame as it dove straight for Elder Linton.

"Elder!"

Seeing this, the Beastman Officer ignited his battle aura, sacrificing his own lifeblood to power it, and threw himself in front of Elder Linton.

The phoenix’s flames slammed into the Beastman Officer’s aura shield. He instantly felt immense pressure and stumbled back several steps.

"You little whelp! Daring to run around when you’re not even fully grown?!"

Elder Linton roared, one hand gripping his Magic Wand while the other gathered Magic Energy, and began to chant.

A moment later, several ice arrows shot toward the sky, but the phoenix dodged them easily with a turn.

"It’s... gone?" The Beastman Officer stared after the departing phoenix, his heart still hammering in his chest.

’Only someone who’s faced those flames can know how terrifying they are. It’s no exaggeration to say that as a Silver Fifth Tier, I wouldn’t have lasted three seconds.’

"It’s over..." Elder Linton said, utterly dejected. He looked toward Wayne Mountain. The sound of the human cavalry was almost on top of them.

"Elder, what do we do now?" The Beastman Officer had realized it too. He could already see the humans.

"What do we do?"

Elder Linton looked at the charging humans, then down at his own hands.

’I don’t know,’ he thought. ’I wonder if anything I learned back then is still useful...’

.....

"For Frank! For the Lord of Dawn!"

Charging down from Wayne Mountain, Robson led the vanguard.

The slope of Wayne Mountain was a paradise for cavalry; no wonder the Centaurs had chosen to build their camp on its peak.

The entire Cavalry Team, along with the Fengman Knight Order, followed close behind Robson.

The momentum from their downhill charge was earth-shattering.

Nearly a thousand riders created the thunder of a massive army.

"For the Kingdom! For the Lord of Dawn!"

Most of those still by Robson’s side were Knights from the Fengman Knight Order. At his cry, the Fengman Knights ignited their battle auras. In an instant, the entire Cavalry Team was enveloped in a dazzling, multicolored glow.

"ROAR!"

"Hold them back!"

Facing the thousands of charging human cavalry, the Beastman Officer roared, his eyes turning bloodshot as his whole body flushed crimson.

The Beastman Soldiers rushed forward, toppling piles of logs onto the road, desperately trying to block the torrent of steel with wood and their own bodies.

But Robson’s attention was elsewhere. He immediately spotted a fluorescent blue barrier in the middle of the road, on the verge of closing completely.

Behind the barrier, a Gnoll had Magic Energy streaming from all seven of his facial orifices, which was continuously being fed into an Array at his feet.

Other Beastmen were nearby, scattering something with their hands.

"Courting death!"

Robson roared, unleashing the aura of a Golden Eighth Tier. With two sweeps of his longspear, he swatted aside a pair of charging Beastmen.

SKRAW! In the sky, Huang Na coordinated with Robson’s attack, spewing a jet of fire that instantly cleared a path.

....

"Elder! The humans are breaking through!"

"Elder, you have to go!"

The Beastman Officer looked anxiously from the charging Robson to Elder Linton.

Magic Energy was now leaking from Elder Linton’s entire body, rendering him unable to speak.

"Hah!"

The Beastman Officer watched as the human leaped, soaring right over Elder Linton’s still-forming Magic Wall.

"A Gold!"

"Elder, go now!"

Wasting no more words, the Beastman Officer lunged forward and scooped up Elder Linton. In that instant, the entire Magic Array collapsed.

"Put me down! Put me down!"

The rescued Elder Linton was furious. The Beastman Officer glanced at the approaching human, then tossed Elder Linton aside.

"ROAR! Human! Come on, let me see what you’ve got!"
