Chapter 308 - 68: Traces of the Beastmen
Chapter 308: Chapter 68: Traces of the Beastmen
Robson watched the Griffin Caval flying in from the sky and thought, ’As expected.’
The Griffin was coming from the north of Wisley Path, the direction of the besieged Beastman Army.
From the very beginning of the war, Robson had suspected that the Beastmen had no reason to continue fighting. Their persistence must be for some other purpose. However, due to uncertainty and a reluctance to take risks, Robson had kept his troops on standby.
Seeing that Griffin solidified his conviction.
「...」
"Urgent report! Urgent report!"
"Make way!"
Robson didn’t have to wait long. Two cavalrymen, one after the other, galloped toward him, shouting about an urgent report.
Robson, growing impatient, leaped down from the camp wall. Behind him, a confused Claude quickly followed.
"My lord? My lord? What’s wrong? Why aren’t we watching anymore? When is the Cavalry Team going to attack?" Claude asked as he hurried after Robson.
Just moments ago, Claude had been suppressing his excitement. Watching the first and second corps clashing with the enemy had him itching for a fight.
Beside him, Knight Ed said nothing, but the anticipation on his face betrayed him. He felt the same way as Claude.
Robson remained silent as several of his bodyguards stepped forward to intercept the two reporting cavalrymen.
"Why are there two of them?" Robson asked, surprised for a moment.
"My lord! An urgent report from the Griffin Knights!"
"My lord! An urgent report from Commander Yuri!"
’Yuri?’
Robson remembered the name. He was one of the first two men to become Tier Seven Soldiers.
After becoming Extraordinary, Yuri not only gained physical prowess but also demonstrated a remarkable talent for learning. Robson had assigned him directly as the commander of the third corps, which was currently defending the rear of Wayne Moutain.
Robson opened Yuri’s envelope first. After reading it, his worries subsided.
It was just Yuri’s inexperience showing. The report was simply about the appearance of enemy troops at the rear, something Robson had known would happen. He had even told Yuri when to expect it.
Normally, this sort of thing didn’t warrant an urgent report.
"Tell Yuri to manage the defense on his own," Robson said.
With that, Robson took out the second letter.
The magical aura from this letter was much stronger than Yuri’s and bore the sigil of a dragon and a bear.
Clearly, it was delivered by the royal Griffin Knights.
After reading the message, Robson handed the envelope to a nearby bodyguard. A Beastman Corps nearly a thousand strong was marching north, and it contained a considerable number of Extraordinary forces.
It was just as Robson had predicted. This corps was likely the last elite force of the Eastern Line Beastmen.
After fighting for so long, this was the first time Robson had heard news of a large-scale Extraordinary corps of Beastmen on the Eastern Front.
"Claude! Elon! Assemble the army and move out immediately!"
「.....」
After seeing Prince Odoruo off, Elder Linton immediately turned back to inspect his Magic Array.
Elder Linton had also seen the human scout Griffin. Knowing they had been exposed, he had volunteered to lead Prince Odoruo’s last three hundred Extraordinary Infantry to hold off the humans here. After all, their opponents were the Fengman Knight Order, one of the giants of the Eastern Front.
These three hundred Extraordinary Infantry were all Prince Odoruo had left. For a Prince of the Empire to have only three hundred Extraordinary soldiers under his command was laughable.
But what could be done? Prince Odoruo was currently out of favor.
"Quick! Sprinkle the Stone Crystal Sand here!
Here..." Elder Linton directed a group of Extraordinary Beastman Infantry, beginning to set up his Magic Array.
That’s right. Three hundred Extraordinary Beastman Infantry alone were not nearly enough to put Elder Linton at ease.
They were facing the Fengman Knight Order! The foremost of the two great human powers on the Eastern Front!
To be honest, calling Prince Odoruo’s force an Extraordinary Corps was generous. Very few of them were above the rank of Silver.
Furthermore, the humans would be charging down from Wayne Moutain. The Fengman Knight Order alone was terrifying enough, but now the humans also held the geographical advantage. Without a few tricks up his sleeve, Elder Linton feared the humans would shatter his formation instantly.
"Elder, can this... really defeat the Fengman Knight Order?" Prince Odoruo’s adjutant watched his soldiers perform the series of actions, scratching his head in confusion.
He had faced the Fengman Knight Order personally. Among the Beastmen, the Fengman Knight Order had a nickname: the Human Race Brutes.
They just lowered their heads and charged, fighting without any regard for the consequences.
Could these hastily prepared Magic Arrays really defeat an army like that?
Hearing this, Elder Linton felt the urge to strike the Beastman adjutant with his staff, but he was too short to reach.
The Beastman adjutant bent down, allowing Elder Linton to finally land the tap.
"Can’t you use your brain? If the Fengman Knight Order were that easy to destroy, would they still be around today?" Elder Linton said irritably.
After speaking, Elder Linton took out a Magic Scroll from behind his back. It was a treasure he had received from his mentor while studying abroad with the Moon Elves.
For all these years, Elder Linton had kept it as a memento, never willing to use it.
"I only hope this can hold them off for a little while," Elder Linton said.
Hearing this, the Beastman adjutant fell silent.
’Hold them off for a little while... But this is a plain. Even if there were a forest, it would mean little to the Fengman Knight Order.’
’So what are we using to hold them off?’
The adjutant didn’t need to ask; the answer was already obvious.
"What? Are you afraid?" Elder Linton asked with a smile.
"No. My life was given to me by His Highness. I’m just giving it back now... It’s just a pity. We had won everything..."
Just as the Beastman adjutant was explaining, a faint tremor ran through the ground.
The Beastman adjutant didn’t feel it, but Elder Linton’s six senses were sharp, and he recognized it immediately.
"Not good! The humans are charging!" Elder Linton’s expression changed drastically.
’The Griffin Knight only left a few minutes ago! How could they be this fast?!’
’Could it be! These humans anticipated this!’
"Quick! Speed up the work! Faster!" The thought terrified Elder Linton.
At that moment, he suddenly understood why the Beastman armies before him had suffered such crushing defeats.
Previously, when other Beastman officers had described this human army’s formidable organization and terrifying speed, Elder Linton had dismissed it as a joke.
After all, organization is the hardest thing to evaluate. He had assumed they were just making excuses for their own failures, because the level of organization described in the letters was simply too terrifying to be believed!
But now, facing them himself, Elder Linton realized this army was even more formidable than the letters had described!
’With this godlike speed, whoever they fight is caught completely off guard, aren’t they?!’
And now, Elder Linton’s Array wasn’t even a quarter complete!
