Chapter 287 - 51: Victory
Chapter 287: Chapter 51: Victory
A piercing cry from a griffin suddenly echoed from the sky. Castro looked up and understood.
Or rather, he didn’t understand at all.
’Why are there humans here?! And why are there so many of them?!’
Castro stared at the surging tide of human Knights, many of them shimmering with the light of their battle aura.
"What is going on?!" For a moment, Castro was completely bewildered, his mind unable to process the situation.
"Sir?! Sir! The human Cavalry Corps is charging us!" his adjutant yelled, trying to snap Castro out of it.
"Sir? What do we do?" the adjutant asked anxiously.
Because of the thunderous noise of their own Centaurs’ hooves, Castro hadn’t noticed the enemy until the human cavalry was nearly upon them.
Now, the humans were just a short distance off—for cavalry, they could close that gap in an instant.
’What do I do? How should I know what to do?’ Castro’s mind reeled in disbelief, but the facts were laid bare before him.
If his main army were still with him, he could have organized a strategic retreat back into the mountains.
But as it stood, his forces were locked in a fierce battle with two other human contingents and couldn’t be relied on anytime soon. ’The enemy has us dead to rights. How can we win?’
"Sir! Sir! The enemy is here! We have to run!"
Just as Castro was wrestling with his confusion, Dosa and another Centaur finally galloped up to him.
Only then did Castro get a clear look. On Dosa’s back was a Dwarf—and a familiar one at that.
"Tec! What’s going on? What’s the deal with those humans over there?" Castro roared at Tec, his voice filled with rage.
"You’re asking me? I was about to ask you! What the hell happened over at Ancient Dumu Town? How did the enemy charge through the old path?!" Tec, exhausted from a full day of fighting and having lost all his men, was in no mood to be questioned.
Seeing Castro’s accusatory tone, Tec fired right back at him.
"And what about you?! What happened on your end? What about Wayne Mountain?" Castro retorted, the implications of Tec’s words starting to dawn on him.
’If this is the army from the front, how could Ancient Dumu Town possibly have held?’
"Well... Sir, you can’t really blame me. You took most of the army with you. There was no way to hold Wayne Mountain..."
Hearing their replies, a chill ran down Castro’s spine. If he were a human, he would have collapsed to the ground right then and there.
"So you’re saying Ancient Dumu Town is lost?"
"Obviously! How else do you think they got here?" Tec snapped.
"And your army... is also gone?"
Tec looked a little awkward at that question.
"I wouldn’t say that. It can be rebuilt, sooner or later."
Castro turned to Dosa, who looked just as sheepish.
"Wayne Mountain... is probably lost."
"Lost... It’s all lost... And my army is still fighting the enemy... HA! We’re surrounded! HAHAHA!" Towards the end, Castro couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst into manic laughter.
Tec shook his head. ’So young,’ he thought. ’Can’t handle the pressure.’
Dosa looked at Tec.
"What do we do now?"
"What do we do?" Tec was silent for a long moment.
"Maybe... we run?"
「...」
"Charge! For the kingdom! For our Lord!"
Robson charged at the very head of his army, sending the morale of his troops soaring. It wasn’t every day they got a chance to see the Viscount lead the charge himself.
’If we don’t give it our all now, when will we get another chance like this?’
"For Frank!"
Seeing they were about to crash into the enemy camp, Robson spurred his horse forward and unleashed the full might of his Golden Tier aura.
"The enemy! The enemy is charging!"
The entire Centaur camp erupted into chaos as they saw Robson and his contingent of Extraordinary Knights charge toward them. Strictly speaking, there was no "camp."
"Where is Lord Castro?!"
"Castro! Castro fled!"
As confusion spread among the Centaurs, a voice suddenly shouted out, and their battle lines began to clamor.
"To the northwest! He ran north!" another Centaur yelled. The others all looked to the northwest, just in time to see a few dozen Centaurs galloping away.
"Charge!" Robson roared, plunging into the Centaur formation.
Since Castro had only arrived a few hours prior, there were no defensive fortifications whatsoever.
Robson, empowered by his Gold avatar, carved a path of destruction right through the Centaur ranks.
After Robson tore an opening, the Fengman Knights behind him surged forward.
"Run! Even Castro ran!"
"Run for your lives!"
Castro’s flight triggered a chain reaction. Before Robson’s army had even fully engaged, the entire Centaur force began a mass retreat.
Unfortunately for them, it was already too late to run.
The second wave of the attacking Cavalry Team was now catching up.
Some Centaur Warriors tried to fight back, but their axes couldn’t even dent the heavy cavalry’s armor.
All Robson could see was his status panel being spammed with a flood of green notifications.
"Keep charging!" Robson bellowed. He led his troops to shatter the Centaur army completely, then charged toward the main battlefield ahead where the other fight was raging.
「...」
"Brother! It’s Viscount Robson! His army is here!" Wulan exclaimed excitedly, pointing into the distance.
"So they’ve arrived..." Earl Uman murmured, watching the human cavalry charge toward them.
Even though Robson had explained everything clearly in his letter, Earl Uman was still struck with an indescribable shock as he watched the human cavalry charging to his aid.
According to Robson’s own account, he had overcome one hell of an ordeal, fighting all night just to break through...
’Next, I, the failure, will have to face him, the victor.’
Earl Uman could already see the Centaurs below beginning to panic.
"Warriors! Viscount Robson has reached the battlefield! The reinforcements are here! Charge!" Earl Uman shouted to the last group of Knights remaining by his side.
"Look! Reinforcements have arrived!"
"I knew it! The kingdom wouldn’t abandon us..."
"These last two days have been suffocating! Let’s show these beasts what true Franks are made of!"
"For the kingdom! Charge!"
With a mighty roar, Earl Uman led his final Cavalry Corps down into the fray.
「...」
"For Frank!"
After breaking through the enemy line, Robson immediately charged to the base of the hill where Earl Uman was positioned. With a great shout, he activated his Gold avatar and attacked the Centaurs from behind.
"Behind us! There are enemies charging from behind!"
"Where’s the Chieftain? Weren’t they supposed to be watching our rear?"
"Castro already fled! Let’s get out of here!"
The Centaurs were caught completely off guard by the sudden attack from their rear.
"The humans from the mountain are charging down!"
Before the Centaur legion could react, the human Soldiers on the mountain saw the distant reinforcements, and their morale surged.
The human Soldiers on the hill were like men in a desert who had just spotted an oasis; one by one, they raised their swords and charged down the slope.
"Just run! Even Castro ran!"
