Xiao Mei was the first one who stepped forward and picked up the small porcelain bottle of red paint. Without wasting any time, she pressed her thumb on the surface of the paint before moving to sign the agreement.
Before she could have pressed her thumb on the scroll of agreement, Xiang Ling asked, "Have you thought it through? Signing this agreement will bind you with the Chen family with a divine promise that you will not be able to break unless the given conditions are met."
The fifteen-year-old young girl smiled at Xiang Ling before she gave a little nod of her head and pressed her thumb on the agreement. Stepping back, she bowed to Xiang Ling and spoke, "My Lady, you saved my life and gave me this opportunity to learn something I could have never even dreamed about if not for you. I don’t need to think too much when it comes to fulfilling your orders. Xiao Mei will always be loyal to My Lady."
Xiang Ling smiled warmly at the girl before speaking, "But I’m not asking you to spend the rest of your life protecting me. I’m asking you to protect the Chen family."
The smile didn’t falter on Xiao Mei’s lips as the girl replied - "The Chen family is My Lady’s family and if my lady believes they are worth protecting with my life, then they are worth protecting with my life."
As Xiang Ling studied the girl, she realized the latter meant every word she had just spoken. Nodding her head in acceptance of her decision, she spoke, "The current Chen family is indeed kind and benevolent. They will not treat you unfairly for your loyalty. And in case the future generation turned away from the path of kindness, you and your family will have the choice to leave the Chen family as per this agreement."
Xiao Mei gave Xiang Ling a deep bow before she stepped back and Xiao Hao took her place. The fourteen-year-old young man also didn’t waste any time before he too signed the agreement.
Feeling satisfied, Xiang Ling stored the scrolls safely in her space and took out two pouches of herbs along with two level-four Body and Meridians Cleansing Spiritual Pills. She handed each of the two teenagers with a pouch of herbs and a pill.
"After dinner tonight, prepare a medicinal bath for yourselves with these herbs and take a bath for three hours after consuming the pills. The pill will clean your body from toxins and open any blocked meridians in your body. The herbs will help your body relax and soothe the pain you both will experience while the pill will perform its work."
Xiao Mei and Xiao Hao listened carefully to all the details and instructions Xiang Ling gave them. Once they had understood everything, they took their leave and returned to join the other servants for work.
On the other hand, Xiang Ling entered her chamber before locking the door and then she stepped inside her space. After all the spiritual herbs she had collected from the Tianlin mountains two nights ago, it was time for her to refine more pills to sell. Even though she had merely spent two hundred silver taels out of the two thousand she had in her possession, she was in dire need of more money as she needed to buy lands.
As soon as she stepped inside the Summer Cottage, she was welcomed by two creatures she didn’t want to see at the moment.
"Master, you are finally here. I have some really good news to share with you!" The colorful and bubbly one chirped the moment it saw Xiang Ling.
"Xing’er, you have finally returned to me." The other colorful one spoke as well with his mischievous eyes fixed on Xiang Ling. This time, his hair was in the color of pastel blue while his eyes were a bright shade of amber. He was wearing white robes, unlike his usual black ones. He looked nothing like himself.
"Why are you here?" She directed her question toward the man.
"For you," he replied shamelessly with that mischievous smile of his that made him look even more handsome if that was even possible.
"Master, listen to me first. I have so much to tell you." Little Pink complained as it flew in front of Xiang Ling to block her view of Zhang Xuan.
Letting out a sigh, she settled down at the study desk and focused her attention on Little Pink. "I will listen to everything you want to say but before that, tell me where is the White Lion. How come I can’t feel its energy inside the space?"
Little Pink immediately turned its head toward Zhang Xuan who stopped midway of drinking whatever was in the cup he was holding in his hand. He glanced between Xiang Ling and Little Pink for a moment before finally speaking, "Oh! Do you mean that spirit beast? She’s here."
He opened his other palm and a divine energy globe appeared above his palm. The White Lion could be seen cultivating inside the globe.
Noticing the frown on Xiang Ling’s face, Zhang Xuan explained, "This beast is in the final level of its cultivation and will soon face her heavenly tribulation. I’m just helping her to finish her cultivation soon so that she can start serving you." He gave Xiang Ling a beautiful smile which did nothing to remove the frown from her face.
If Xiang Ling didn’t know better, she would have assumed that the man was trying to steal the White Lion from her. But after knowing him for over one and a half months, the one thing she could tell about him was that he was easily the most powerful person she had seen or heard about in all the five realms. With his level of cultivation, a spirit beast - no matter how rare or powerful, couldn’t impress him.
Yet, here he was. Pestering Xiang Ling like a ghost.
"It’s a female." Xiang Ling suddenly said as she realized how Zhang Xuan addressed the White Lion.
Zhang Xuan smiled as he looked at the White Lion inside his divine globe and spoke, "The only female left of her kind. It seems like you will need to find her a partner so that they can keep their clan line alive."
