Chapter 86: The Devil Flowers (Part Two)
"Tsk tsk... At this rate, they will never make it to the high peak."
Dao Ming couldn’t help but pity the group of people who were busy fighting the ferocious wild beasts of the island. There was a particular group of cultivators that were fighting for their lives with the flesh-eating vines that were spread almost all across the mountains.
"Want to go and help?" Xin Cheng asked as they continued to fly toward the highest peak of the mountain. They were far above the reach of those ferocious plants and beasts and even if some could fly and reach them, they didn’t dare because of the immensely powerful aura that surrounded these two men.
"I will pass on this rare chance." Dao Ming replied with just as much empty humor as Xin Cheng just used. The two of them were too used to each other’s impudent behaviors.
A few moments later, the two of them finally landed at the back entrance of the cave located in the very center of the highest peak.
"I can hardly tell there’s a cave here. All that is visible are these vines and plants." Dao Ming commented as he stared at the mass of greenery that was decorating the cave’s entrance, hiding it completely from prying eyes.
With a single flick of Xin Cheng’s sleeves, a bright red light hit the vines and bushes at the entrance of the cave, clearing it without much effort. "Here, all clear... except for the ward."
Another ward was protecting both the entrances of the cave. The reason they chose the back entrance was because the location of the Divine Flowers was closer to the back entrance compared to the long path they needed to take from the front entrance which was even harder to find.
While many would have struggled to take down the ward, the same wasn’t the case with these two extremely powerful men. Their level of cultivation had long surpassed the limitation where they found anything hard to accomplish related to spells.
Dao Ming stepped forward and placed his palm against the shimmering ward. A strand of his powers channeled across the length of his arm and passed into the ward through his palm, taking down the protection layer within seconds.
The two men stepped inside the cave and headed in the direction of the location of Devil Flowers. The cave was like a maze, if not paid enough attention, one could easily get lost. Yet, Xin Cheng and Dao Ming faced absolutely no trouble as they made their way to the little clearing in the cave after walking down several tunnels that were covered in vines and moss.
The clearing was filled with an abundance of spiritual qi. The place was perfect for any cultivator who would be in awe to find such a place with such high concentration of spiritual qi. Yet, neither Xin Cheng nor Dao Ming had any interest in the spiritual qi present in there.
There was a little pond of fresh water in the clearing, filled with several water spiritual herbs, and in the farthest corner of the pond stood the plant with two huge buds. While all the spiritual herbs carried a faint glow around them, this particular plant had a powerful golden glow surrounding it, making it stand out among all the others.
"There’s still over an hour left before the Eclipse. We are too early." Dao Ming commented as he jumped on a nearby rock and settled down in a leisurely position.
Xin Cheng didn’t respond, instead, his eyes were busy scanning the clearing as he kept feeling someone else was also there with the two do them. After a moment or two, he too settled down next to Dao Ming and closed his eyes, pretending to be relaxed even though his senses were on high alert.
It didn’t take long before his acting fooled the person hiding in the shadows. His ears picked on the shuffle of clothes as that person tried to move and his powers detected their divine aura not too far away from where he and Dao Ming were resting.
Dao Ming’s sharp wolf senses also picked up the sound that barely lasted for less than a second before it went completely silent once again. But it was already too late for that bold person who dared to enter the cave. Before he could have reacted, Xin Cheng was already gone from beside him.
On the other hand, a person clad in all black and a veil hiding half of their face was trying to flee from the cave. Unfortunately, they weren’t fast enough when compared to the devil who suddenly appeared in front of them and blocked their path. The next thing they knew, a sword was pointing right at their throat.
"What are you doing? It’s me!" The person hurriedly took off the veil and stared at Xin Cheng with wide eyes filled with alarm.
"You?"
Xin Cheng could hardly believe his eyes. Standing in front of him was the last person he expected to see at the moment. When his shock dissipated a little bit, he realized that his sword was still pointing at her throat and immediately lowered it.
"Oh! What a great surprise!"
Dao Ming commented as he made his way toward them and came to stand next to Xin Cheng. Looking at the woman standing in front of them, the two men had completely different expressions on their faces. While Xin Cheng still looked shocked, Dao Ming only had curiosity and excitement in his eyes.
"I know right! I also wasn’t expecting to see the two of you here." Xiang Ling retorted as she let out a long sigh. Only if she could have been a little bit faster in her escape, but it was already too late. Looking at Xin Cheng’s expression, she could tell that there would be a lot of explaining to do. However, she wasn’t the only one who needed to explain her presence in the cave.
