Chapter 334: Finding a Solution (III)
"The collection of forbidden spells."
Su LiangLin stopped and turned her shocked gaze toward Xiang Ling. "Have you lost your mind?" She demanded, suddenly looking terrified.
"I need that collection." Xiang Ling responded as she started her search for the collection once again.
Su LiangLin hesitated, her mind racing as she processed the urgency in Xiang Ling’s voice. With a resigned sigh, she shifted her focus to the next shelf, carefully examining each scroll as she asked, "Why are you looking for the forbidden spells?"
The two continued their search in silence. The only sound was of the soft rustling of parchment and the occasional shuffle of footsteps as they worked to avoid detection by the patrolling night guards. Xiang Ling’s eyes were fixed on a particularly ancient shelf and her fingers deftly moved over the scrolls as she answered.
"I need to find a way to locate Shadow Lord," she explained. "It has been such a long time, yet no one has seen the Shadow Lord. No one knows where he is..."
Su LiangLin stopped her search, her attention fully drawn to Xiang Ling. The mention of the Shadow Lord made her heart skip a beat. She could sense the urgency in Xiang Ling’s voice.
Turning her attention toward Xiang Ling, she asked, "What are you talking about?"
Xiang Ling continued, her tone tinged with frustration. "He has been in the dark, hidden from everyone, while we all are in the open. As long as he remains hidden, we will always be at a disadvantage. A dark spell is the only option I can see right now that might help us."
She received a heavy silence in response that was filled with unspoken worries and the weight of her idea. Good thing was, Su LiangLin wasn’t screaming in shock after hearing about her plan.
Finally, Su LiangLin broke the silence. "Let’s find it quickly. We can’t stay here for too long."
A small, relieved smile touched Xiang Ling’s lips, and she nodded in agreement. They resumed their search with renewed energy, sifting through the dusty shelves with a sense of urgency.
Time seemed to stretch as they combed through the shelves, their anticipation building with each passing moment. Just when it seemed that their efforts might be in vain, Su LiangLin’s voice cut through the tension. "Ah Xing, here it is," she whispered, holding up a scroll with a look of triumph.
One look at the title card of the scroll and she confirmed they got the right one. However, before they could have savored their success, the sound of approaching footsteps reached their ears. The two exchanged a hurried glance, and Su LiangLin swiftly handed the scroll to Xiang Ling. "Take it and leave," she instructed, her voice steady despite the tension.
Xiang Ling’s eyes were filled with concern as she took the scroll and prepared to make her escape. "What about you?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I’ll handle it. I’ll distract them. Don’t worry, I will make sure to not get caught. Now leave. They are almost here." Su LiangLin assured her, her form beginning to shift and blur as she transformed into a small spirit fox. "Be careful."
Xiang Ling nodded with a mixed expression of gratitude and worry. With a final glance at Su LiangLin, she cast an invisible spell and slipped away from the forbidden zone, moving swiftly through the shadows.
As she passed by the two night guards on their way to forbidden zone, she managed to avoid detection. Her form easily blended into the darkness.
Once she was safely outside the tower and beyond the protective wards, she teleported directly to her palace in the Celestial Realm. She arrived to find Su LiangLin already there.
The two of them wasted no time and quickly joined Xuelin, who had prepared a table with the set of go. To mask what they had just done, they immediately engaged in the lively game.
"You are looking too troubled to make this work." Su LiangLin commented as she made a strategic move on the go board.
Xiang Ling sighed deeply. "We are in trouble. Even though we are pretending to have a girl’s night right now, no one can testify to seeing you enter my palace—"
"Don’t worry," Su LiangLin interrupted, her demeanor calm and composed. "A lot of the servants and fairies saw me arriving here about an hour ago. I came here to find you and met Xuelin. When your spirit beast told me you were cultivating inside your space, I followed your spiritual energy and teleported to the tower. So, they saw me come in, but not leave. Thanks to me, we are both safe tonight."
Xiang Ling looked at Su LiangLin and a small smile of relief tugged at her lips. "Indeed. Thanks to you, we might avoid immediate discovery. But it’s only a matter of time before the truth will come out."
Su LiangLin’s face remained relaxed, as if she wasn’t the least bit worried about getting found. "I’m going to trust you to help when that time comes. With the God of Life in your harem, I’m sure he will assist us if needed."
Xiang Ling shook her head after hearing the plan, but didn’t comment. "I will try to complete my mission before the truth of tonight is uncovered. Let’s finish this act so I can begin my search."
Su LiangLin nodded in agreement. "What do you need me to do?"
A playful smile appeared on Xiang Ling’s lips. "How about we put on a little show?"
Su LiangLin looked at her with a mixture of curiosity and confusion but ultimately nodded. "Alright."
A short while later, the usually serene palace of High Immortal Xing was filled with the sounds of a lively and animated argument between the two Immortals. Their voices, full of anger and exaggerated frustration, echoed through the halls, drawing the attention of those nearby.
A crowd quickly gathered outside, eager to witness the rare spectacle of two renowned Immortals engaged in a brawl. The scene was one of light-hearted chaos.
When the night guards arrived to search for the intruder, this was how they found two of the most respectable Immortals of the Upper Realms.
