Xiang Ling spent another night performing her duties as the Blue Star. Honestly, she didn’t have to personally perform the duties of a star since the halo of her true form alone was enough to do that. Still, she did it because she didn’t want to spend more time wondering about what was going on in the rest of the world, especially in the Heavenly Realm.
It was not until the next day when she finally received news of the arrival of the rulers of other Realms. Wu Tian was the first one to arrive, followed by Zhe Yuan, Xin Cheng and Dao Ming. She also received the news that the Night Immortal coming out of his closed-door cultivation before he went to receive the other rulers along with the Heaven Emperor.
She was planning on coming up with a plan to meet her men before the meeting that was going to take place that evening, when a fairy from the Heavenly Palace arrived with a summon from the Heavenly Empress.
Having no idea about the reason for which the Heavenly Empress was summoning her for, she quickly got dressed and headed to the Heavenly Palace. She was led by a fairy to the private quarters of the Empress and she found the latter enjoying afternoon tea in a small, but extremely beautiful garden in the backyard of her private quarters.
"Your Majesty."
Xiang Ling greeted the Empress with a polite and proper bow, not allowing her internal feelings to reflect on her face.
"High Immortal Xing, please take a seat." The Empress spoke in a soft voice before she signaled for the servants to leave the place.
Xiang Ling took a seat opposite the Empress while she sensed a protective barrier surrounding the garden as if the woman had cast a spell there. "Your Majesty, why have you summoned me here?"
The Empress didn’t answer immediately, instead, she focused on pouring tea in a new cup before she offered it to Xiang Ling who politely accepted it. "I’m sure after what happened, you might have some questions for me."
Xiang Ling stared at the woman in front of her, trying to understand exactly what the woman wanted from her. Unfortunately, the Empress was too good in keeping an unreadable expression on her face. Letting out a small sigh, she decided to be direct. "Are you talking about how you framed me and punished me for something I never did?"
All the politeness flew away in seconds as she decided to just get to main topic without beating around the bush. If the Empress was ready to answer her questions, then she was ready to ask them.
A small smile appeared on the Empress’ lips and she picked up her cup to take another sip of the tea. Her gaze roamed around the garden, marveling at the beautiful blooms that were decorating the area. "I know that you might be feeling wronged after all that happened. Back then, I did what I did to protect my son and the Celestial King. Those two are the pillars of the Upper Realms, their safety is of utmost importance."
Xiang Ling felt her inner emotions fighting with her to come out and face the woman in front of her, but she held them back and sat there silently to let the woman finish speaking.
"While the Night Immortal openly went to enjoy a life tribulation in Mortal Realm, that son of my sneaked out in the middle of his Nirvana. And then I found out that they both were under immense danger. I wasn’t going to use you, but I couldn’t keep Li Xian’s disappearance a secret for too long. His Majesty wanted to visit him and have a look."
A sigh escaped the Empress’ lips before she continued, "But then, you happened to be present there that eventful night and faced your heavenly tribulation. I realized that using you was the only way for solving the issue. I knew the portal was defected because I failed time and again in bringing both the men back to Upper Realms. So, I did what I had to. Sending you to Mortal Realm was an abrupt decision, but your soul ending up inside the body of the very woman to whom these two men were married to, it was a calculative plan. And you also ended up having all your memories and access to your powers."
Silence took over the two of them and neither spoke for a long time, they both were lost in their own thoughts. The only sound was that of the rustling of leaves as a soft breeze blew across the Heavenly Realm.
"I want to be understanding, considering that everything you did was not only because of your motherly love for your son, but to also keep the world in peace. But I’m not that generous, Your Majesty. I can’t ignore the fact that because of you, I have suffered a lot and will probably suffer more. However, I can’t totally blame you since I ended up benefitting from this life tribulation." Xiang Ling was conflicted.
"High Immortal Xing, I really appreciate everything you have done, and that’s exactly why I’m going to keep all this just between the two of us. Anyone else who knows about this will also keep their mouths shut. In the High Council’s meeting, you didn’t have to disclose about the fact that you carried your Immortal memories and powers during your life tribulation." The Empress offered much to Xiang Ling’s surprise.
"You knew about the Shadow Lord?" She asked.
The Empress shook her head before replying, "I only knew about the Dark Force’s sudden movements around the Realms."
A sigh escaped Xiang Ling before she spoke again, "There’s something else I want to request."
"What is it?" The Empress asked.
"I want to meet His Highness the Crown Prince and the Night Immortal."
A heavy look took over the Empress’ face as she replied, "I can’t do that."
"Why?"
"Because they both have refused to meet anyone, especially you."
