The evil chuckle of the hooded man confirmed Xiang Ling’s guess about his identity as the Shadow Lord. It was only then did fear finally started taking hold over her. She wasn’t in the presence of just anyone, but that one person whom all Five Realms wanted to end desperately.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, she quickly started summoning her divine energy. Unfortunately, while she could feel its presence, she failed to connect with it. Since her hands were bound behind her back, she used that to her advantage and adjusted her hands to read her pulse and find out exactly what kind of drug the man had fed her.
It wasn’t easy for her to concentrate on her pulse as the man was still observing her closely. So, in order to keep him distracted from realizing what she was doing, she decided to continue speaking. "Are you planning to kill me?" she asked, her voice trembling from the nerves.
To her surprise, the man answered in negative, "No. I have no plans to kill you. Not yet." He paused before adding, "Instead, I want to show you just how miserable I can make your life if you continue to interrupt my mission of conquering the Five Realms and reviving the Shadow Realm."
Xiang Ling’s eyes widened in horror as she got to know that he was not only planning on launching a war with the Five Realms, but also wanted to revive the Shadow Realm. His intentions were indeed horrifying, and needed to be stopped before things could get out of the hands of the Five Realms.
She finally got an idea of what kind of drug was in her body and quickly used her nails to make cuts in her palm to get the poisonous blood out of her body. At the time being, it was the only option she had at hand.
"What are you going to do?" She asked, and in response to her question, the man clapped his hands. She watched in confusion as the door of the room opened again and four men dressed in black guard robes entered, bringing two more men with him. She immediately recognized the two very familiar faces. They were none other than Wei Guang and Li Xian.
The men stared at her in shock, but neither of them said anything. Fear gripped her heart as she realized she had unknowingly put both men in danger. "What are you planning to do with them?" she demanded.
The hooded man smiled cruelly and, without a word, sent a powerful spell toward both men, throwing them against the wall. The spell was so powerful that it injured them heavily in one single blow.
Xiang Ling screamed in horror as she watched Wei Guang and Li Xian crash to the floor. Desperately, she summoned her powers again and finally felt a faint response. Realizing there was still hope, she continued to call her powers while the hooded figure mercilessly attacked Wei Guang and Li Xian.
"Swear to never interrupt my work, and I will let you and your men live," he demanded with each attack.
"I will never do that!" she shouted, making him angrier. "I will never become a part of your evil plans, nor will I betray my people."
The man growled in anger, sending another spell toward Wei Guang and Li Xian who were covered in blood as wounds decorated their bodies. "Do you think I can’t make you surrender? Killing these two men will not only make you succumb to my demand, but it will also help me in my revenge. Don’t you think so?"
His voice carried a clear warning, and Xiang Ling knew that his next attack was going to be a lethal one. He was never planning to let go of Wei Guang and Li Xian. He knew their identities, and also knew that killing the two would give the Upper Realms a huge blow.
Finally, her desperation paid off as she succeeded in summoning her powers. She used them to break the devil vines that were binding her. Just then, the hooded man finally launched the deadly spell toward Wei Guang and Li Xian.
In a desperate attempt to save her husbands, she ran and stood in front of them, shielding them from the spell. The powerful force hit her body, making her spit blood that covered her snow white dress.
Time seemed to freeze as the spell injured her internal organs, leaving her mortal body beyond recovery. The spell was meant to kill and she became its vessel. Still, she felt no regrets.
As her body began to fall to the floor, she heard the heartbreaking cries of her husbands, who struggled to get to her.
"Wei Guang... Li Xian..." she whispered weakly, tears streaming down her face.
"Xiang Ling, no!" They cried out, reaching for her.
She felt their embrace engulfing her and felt her heart becoming warm at the realization. She wasn’t dying alone like she was expecting. At least, two of her lovers were there with her. Though given another chance, she wouldn’t have allowed them to witness such a scene.
"Let me send you both away." She whispered as more blood made its way out of her mouth. She knew that using her powers in such a situation would seal her death, but her focus was on protecting her men.
"Ah Ling, no!"
Li Xian cried as he tried to stop whatever his wife was trying to do. But it was too late.
The two men watched as some kind of power surrounded them and they were pulled into a whirlwind. The last thing they saw was how light faded from Xiang Ling’s eyes as she fell to the ground, her body lifeless.
"No!"
The cry belonged to Wei Guang who suddenly reached out of the whirlwind and grabbed Xiang Ling, pulling her inside merely a second before the spell took them away from the dark room of death.
