Chapter 225: Crown Prince’s Plan
"Drop the formalities and have a seat." Wu Tian told the two women as he made his way toward the head seat and took his place. He watched as neither the women moved for a while and just stared at him as if they were waiting for something.
Finally, couple of moments later, Su LiangLin settled down on the first seat to his right while Chen Xiang Ling took her seat on the left side.
"You didn’t answer my question." He directed his attention toward his wife whom he heard talking about not supporting unfairness, a statement that took him by surprise as it wasn’t something he expected to hear from her.
Su LiangLin shared a glance at Xiang Ling but the latter didn’t even look at the former. Realizing that she was on her own, she cleared her throat and finally answered the Crown Prince’s question. "Don’t think too much about it, Your Highness. I was just talking about the unfairness that I received from Ah Xiang. She refused to come here and meet me when I requested it yesterday, but she came here when you sent a word. That’s quite unfair. Don’t you think so?"
Xiang Ling just stared at the woman who seemed to have become expert in creating stories that could save her from getting into trouble. But who was she to judge. She too used every means possible to save herself from any possible suspicion when she first arrived in the Mortal Realm. Even to this date, she kept using self-made excuses where required to get away from troubles.
After Su LiangLin’s explanation, Wu Tian studied his wife for a moment or two before finally turning his attention toward Chen Xiang Ling. Looking at the young woman, he realized that her appearance and aura indeed failed to match with the words written in the report he received about her. This only made him wonder how much truth was in that report.
"Young Lady Chen, I must apologize for calling you here on such a short notice, especially when you were about to depart for your hometown. But my wife wanted to spend time with you. After she told me that you are upset at her for not inviting you at our wedding, I wanted to invite you here personally to make up for the past mistake. Hopefully, you will let go of her carelessness and forgive your friend."
It took quite an effort on Xiang Ling’s part to keep the smile on her lips and not glare at the woman who had decided to use her as a shield in whatever drama was going on in her life.
"It was a normal fight between us friends. You don’t have to do all this, Your Highness." She responded to the Crown Prince with a fake smile.
"It’s no bother. I also wanted to meet my wife’s best friend. It’s nice meeting you, Lady Chen." Wu Tian said with a respectful smile as he picked up his cup of tea and proposed a toast.
Xiang Ling quickly stood up with a tea cup in her hands and accepted the toast with a polite bow. Finishing the tea, she once again settled down in her seat.
"Your Highness, please forgive me for my rudeness but I must return now. My husbands are waiting for me and we need to depart today. I will surely visit Her Highness during my next visit to the Capital." Xiang Ling tried to ask for permission so that she could leave the palace and return to the Inn before noon. But it seemed like the Crown Prince had some other plans.
"Lady Chen, why the hurry? Stay for a few more days. The two of you just reunited after so long. Shouldn’t you be spending more time together?" Wu Tian made his words sound like he indeed wanted the two friends to have more time together.
"Your Highness, I would have loved to stay. But it’s been nearly a month since I left home. My family is still waiting there for my return. Besides, my husbands have been feeling homesick as they aren’t used to staying away from home. If we leave now, we will be able to return to our home within a week, possibly before the weather worsens. Hopefully, you will understand our situation." Xiang Ling once again stood up from her seat and made the request with another curtsey.
Realizing that it was time for him to take a step back, Wu Tian took the chance to force his plan into work. "Of course! Your situation is understandable. Don’t worry, Lady Chen, I will not force you to prolong your stay here in the Capital. But you can’t depart today. Let’s shift the plan to tomorrow."
Xiang Ling quickly shared a look with Su LiangLin who looked just as lost as her.
"Why tomorrow?" Su LiangLin questioned while looking at the Crown Prince in confusion.
With a calm expression and a little smile on his lips, Wu Tian answered, "Because we might need at least one day to make preparations."
His words only confused the women further. But before either of them could enquire, Wu Tian was already adding, "Since Lady Chen can’t stay in the Capital, we will follow her to Dongzhi City."
