Chapter 222: Crown Prince & His Crown Princess
Chapter 222: Crown Prince & His Crown Princess
The royal carriage made its way through the bustling market street, heading toward the Crown Prince’s Palace located at the east of the Imperial Palace.
The inside of the carriage was filled with a heavy silence and tension. The Crown Prince was known as the most handsome man in the Imperial City. Dressed in a dark blue royal outfit with his long black hair pulled up in a high bun and secured with a golden coronet, it was quite obvious that he was a royal, and a powerful one considering the aura surrounding him.
Sitting next to him was a small creature who was trying to flee for her life. Su LiangLin felt her heart beating like crazy in the confinement of her chest. She was afraid that it might jump out at any possible moment. Never in her life of twelve thousand years had she ever felt this frightened and that too from a mere mortal.
No! I can’t let this man kill me. If I end up failing in my life tribulation, I will lose to Supreme Immortal Xing. How can I show my face around the Heavenly Realm by then? Besides, losing thousand years worth of cultivation powers is just too much too big of a loss. No! I must find a way to sort out this mess.
Su LiangLin thought in her mind and came to the decision that she couldn’t give up. She needed to either win the Crown Prince’s favor, or to get as far away from him as possible. And at the moment, neither the options looked easy to her.
"What are you thinking? Are you cursing me in that mind of yours?" The Crown Prince, Wu Tian, asked when he noticed the expressions on his wife’s face.
Su LiangLin was unable to hold back the scoff that immediately escaped her lips. "Don’t think too highly of yourself. Why would I think about someone like you? Do I have nothing better to do?"
Wu Tian was left stunned by the woman’s words and the clear hostility in her tone. Ever since she tried to take her own life, she had changed a lot. She no longer pestered him like before. Instead, it almost felt like she was avoiding him like a plague. She kept behaving like he no longer mattered to her, but he wasn’t stupid enough to fall for her pretense. If his Crown Princess wanted to play, he was ready to help her. He wanted to see just for how long she would be able to keep up with the play.
"Who was the woman just now? You two seemed really close." He enquired as even his men failed to recognize the woman who definitely seemed like a young lady of some high official’s family. He found himself wondering if his wife was crafting some sort of plot with that woman. He just couldn’t bring himself to trust the Crown Princess and anyone else related to her.
Su LiangLin contemplated on her options, and in the end, her evil side won. She had no intentions of letting go of Supreme Immortal Xing so easily. Suppressing the smile that was threatening to bloom on her lips, she answered, "She’s Chen Xiang Ling, daughter of the County Magistrate Chen of Nanxia County. We have met before a couple of times. My maid saw her yesterday when she went to the market to buy sweets for me. That was why I escaped from the palace to meet her. Fortunately, I did so because she’s planning to return to Nanxia the day after tomorrow."
She made sure to use this self-made story to explain her escape from the palace. Since she had decided to involve Supreme Immortal Xing in her mess, then she was going to take full advantage of it.
On the other hand, Crown Prince Wu Tian’s brain was busy trying to understand the connection between Prime Minister Su and Nanxia County’s Magistrate.
Were those two working together? He found himself wondering. Turning his sharp gaze toward his wife, he questioned, "Nanxia County is so far from the Capital. Do Miss Chen frequently visits the Capital for you two to meet and become this close?"
Su LiangLin smiled in response to the Crown Prince’s question. "You have made the wrong guess, Your Highness. Both Ah Xiang and I love to visit different places. That was how we met. Sometimes, it was the same temple we were visiting. Sometimes, we came across each other at the inns we were staying at during traveling. Other times, we were camping at the same place. It was almost like fate was making us cross paths again and again until we gave in and became close friends."
"So, your friend came to Capital this time to meet you?" Wu Tian enquired further as he kept feeling something off about the entire story.
"Of course, not. She’s here for some business reason." Su LiangLin answered.
"You didn’t invite her on our wedding?"
"Like I knew I was getting married." Su LiangLin scoffed even before she knew she was doing it. The words just made their way out of her mouth.
"What do you mean?" Wu Tian had a dark look on his face as he demanded explanation after hearing her words.
Realizing her mistake, Su LiangLin quickly tried to amend it. "What I was trying to say is that, since everything happened so suddenly, I forgot about sending her an invitation. No wonder, she is now mad at me after I told her that I’m now married."
Wu Tian scoffed as he found her story more and more hard to believe. "You are such close friends, and yet, you forgot about inviting her to your wedding. Why I can’t seem to believe your words?"
Su LiangLin frowned at the man. She didn’t like it at all that he was smarter than she wanted him to be. It seemed like fate created him just to make her life tribulation the worst kind of experience of her life. Keeping her dislike for him under control, she responded, "You will know after meeting her."
