Chapter 213: A Familiar Story
Chapter 213: A Familiar Story
"Have you heard? The Crown Princess tried to poison the Crown Prince on their wedding night yesterday and when she got caught, she tried to kill herself!"
"Tsk tsk! We all should have seen this coming. What else we can expect from a woman like First Young Miss Su? Everyone in the Capital knows what kind of wicked woman she is."
"Shhh! Don’t call her by her maiden title. She’s now the Crown Princess."
"Phhh! What Crown Princess? If not for the promise between Empress Dowager and the Prime Minister Su’s late mother, someone as poisonous and vile like her would have never been able to marry the Crown Prince. With a wife like her, any men would lose their sanity."
"That woman went to great lengths just to marry the Crown Prince. Why did she then try to poison him the very night of their wedding?"
"You might not believe this... but the rumors says it was aphrodisiac that she used on the Crown Prince."
The shock was palpable as these words landed on the ears of all the gossipers who had gathered in the Inn to talk about the biggest news in the Capital City.
"I still can’t believe there’s a woman like Crown Princess. She’s ugly, misbehaves, arrogant, an actual trash, and still goes around causing troubles. Tsk tsk. It’s indeed a pitiful situation for both Prime Minister Su and Crown Prince."
Many nodded their heads in agreement to the above comment.
"Aiyah! You all seriously believe that the biggest news is the poisoning incident and then the Crown Princess jumping into the pond to take her own life. But there’s something even more shocking than that."
The man who just joined the gathered crowd, immeditely pulled everyone’s full attention to him with his words.
"What is it?"
"Please do tell. Don’t keep us in suspence."
The man took his time to build the anticipation before he finally revealed the big information he just received from his friend whose brother worked in the Crown Prince’s Manor.
"They are saying that ever since Crown Princess woke up this morning, she had changed completely. At first, she behaved like she went crazy, asking everyone who they were and where she was. Then she treated the Crown Prince like he was the person she despised the most, and someone even heard her talking about getting a divorce!"
Xiang Ling almost chocked on the tea she was sipping. Coughing, she signaled Wei Guang that she was alright as the man was patting her back to soothe her.
"Why does this story sounds so familiar?" Zhang Xuan suddenly asked with a quick glance in Xiang Ling’s direction and the latter understood what he was trying to say.
"Since you pointed it out, it indeed sounds too familiar." Xin Cheng added as he too gave Xiang Ling a look that conveyed a message deeper than his words.
Seeing these two men finally agreeing with something, Xiang Ling didn’t feel the least bit relieved since she was their target. Yet,she couldn’t deny that the case of the Crown Princess sounded too similar to what happened to her, or Chen Xiang Ling.
When they finally arrived in the Capital City early this morning, the last thing they expected was to be welcomed by such a scandal. However, so far, there had been only rumors and nothing else. Neither the Prime Minister’s Manor nor Crown Prince’s Manor appeared as if something might have happened there.
"Let’s not worry about these baseless gossips. We should focus on our work." Wei Guang, always the voice of reason, stated and turned his attention toward Xiang Ling before asking, "Xiang’er, what are your plans?"
Xiang Ling finished the tea in her cup before setting it down on the table. "There’s going to be a clothing showcase in the Silk Serenity House two days later. All the big merchants of silk, famous designers, and potential customers will gather there. I will also be joining the gathering."
The three men nodded their heads in understanding. They were only there to accompany her and had nothing to do with her business plans. That’s why, they were mostly going to support her from the sidelines while she finished her works in the Capital City.
"We still have half a day today and tomorrow’s entire day left. What are we going to do in our free time?" Zhang Xuan asked and his eyes were looking at Xiang Ling with expectations.
"What do you want to do?" She asked him.
A bright smile bloomed on the man’s face as he answered, "This is our first time in the Capital City, let’s make the most out of it. We can go shopping, eat at the big restaurants and watch the various art shows that are performed during night. We can also visit the famous places within or around the city. What do you say?"
Even Wei Guang was now looking at her with expectations and while Xin Cheng remained silent, Xiang Ling was able to tell that he wasn’t against the idea.
She didn’t answer immediately and observed their expressions for a moment or two. Finally, she nodded her head. "Sure. We will do that. On the days I’m not working, we can go around and have fun."
"Perefct!" Zhang Xuan seemed the happiest as he even went as far as to clap his hands as if he was enjoying his victory.
"Then where are we going today? Just like you said, we have half a day left." Wei Guang asked and recieved a blank look in response from Zhang Xuan.
"Why are you asking me? This is my first time here as well." The man said in his defense.
"Wait! You just proposed the idea and now you are saying that you don’t know where we should head now? Are you for real?" Xin Cheng demanded as he stared at Zhang Xuan in disbelief.
"You are just trying to find a chance to fight with me. What does me offering the idea and knowing about the places had to do with each other?"
Xiang Ling let out a long sigh and stood up from the table to head to her booked room.
