Chapter 205: Not Desperate
Chapter 205: Not Desperate
"Of course! Because it was your fault."
The words came from the man who was supposed to be still fast asleep but it turned out he had woken up at some point while Xiang Ling was busy focusing on Xin Cheng.
She opened her mouth to speak but no word came out as she was left slightly stunned by Dao Ming’s anger filled eyes that were staring right into her very soul.
"Why did you follow us?" The man demanded while staring at her with a sharpness in his eyes that she had never seen before.
"I... I just wanted to know what you two were up to when I saw you sneaking out of the manor..."
"And why was that?"
"Huh?" Xiang Ling wasn’t really as confused as she sounded. She was just not prepared to face this side of Dao Ming. It was almost like these two men’s personalities had swapped. While Dao Ming didn’t hide his anger toward her, Xin Cheng sat there in complete silence.
"I... well..."
"Why can’t you answer? I’m asking you why you felt the need of following us in the first place? Why were you even curious about us when we have nothing to do with each-other anymore? Why do you have to constantly make things hard for us?" With every question he asked, his voice became sharper as if his anger was also rising.
Xiang Ling felt her heart clenching inside her chest. She felt the back of her throat filling up but she kept her emotions under control, or at least tried to. "I know I shouldn’t have followed you. I will apologize for being meddlesome. Also thank you for helping me with the poison thing."
She hurriedly spoke out the words and started climbing out of the bed only for Dao Ming to grab her hand and stop her before she could escape.
"Where do you think you are going?" The Spirit Beast King demanded in the same angry tone which finally made Xiang Ling lose her calm. Jerking her hand out of his hold, she turned her attention toward him and replied while glaring at the man. "I’m going back to Chen Manor."
Dao Ming let out a small sigh and with it, a little bit of his anger left his body too. Looking a little bit calmer compared to before, he spoke again and this time in a much calmer tone. "Stay here. You are still not completely recovered."
"And that’s none of your business..." Xiang Ling was quick to slam his harsh words back at him which gifted her with another sharp look from the man. But she was in no mood to stay silent and listen to him shouting at her angrily.
She wasn’t denying that she was indeed at fault for following them in the first place when she had nothing to do with them anymore. However, the reason she was feeling mad at Dao Ming was because his anger was directed at her being injured while following them and not because she stepped out of her way to follow them when they have no relation with each other. Even though he was pretending to be angry otherwise, she knew him enough to know the real reason behind his anger. The duality of his words were making her irritated.
"... I’m grateful that you both saved my life, but that’s it. Since we have nothing to do with each other, you don’t have to worry too much about my health." She finished speaking and was ready to leave when the man once again grabbed her hand and she was almost pulled into his arms.
"I dare you to take even one step out of this room." His voice was so deadly that for a mere moment, Xiang Ling indeed froze in her place, not because she was afraid. No! It was because this dominating side of the Spirit Beast King made her think of some really unthinkable things that any sane woman shouldn’t be thinking in that moment.
It was not until meeting these six men in this mortal life did she realize just how much her body, soul, and heart craved the opposite gender. It was not only because for sex, but also because of all the other things these men were making her feel and experience. It was their love, companionship, care, understanding, support, and everything else.
"What are you thinking, Little Star?"
The question and the endearment, one that she hadn’t heard him using in months, pulled her out of her thoughts. She found him looking at her with those deep gray eyes that now held an entirely different emotion from the previous anger.
Xiang Ling quickly turned her head to look at Xin Cheng but found that the man had long left the room. She was still looking away when she felt Dao Ming’s fingers under her chin before he made her face him.
"What are you doing?" She found herself asking and much to her dismay, her voice came out as a breathy whisper that did little to shake off the tension that was building between them. She could see where the things were suddenly leading, but she wasn’t sure whether she was happy with it or not.
"I can ask you the same question. What have you been doing? You leave us alone for a while and just when I feel like I’m getting used to living without you, you end up reappearing in my life to make me realize just how much of an idiot I am to even think about it. Why are you doing this to me, Little Star?" His voice was just as soft as his gaze, but the same couldn’t be said about his questions.
"You are the one who pushed me away first." Was all that Xiang Ling said and watched as a sad smile curved the corners of Dao Ming’s lips.
"Because I’m a foolish man. But aren’t you smart? Why didn’t you stop me?" He asked.
"Why would I stop you? Even though I like you, I’m not desperate enough to throw away my self-respect and beg you to-"
