Chapter 186: Not Close Enough
Xiang Ling swung her leg at the intruder and it got him flying backward. But he was quick to regain his balance. She was ready to attack him again when the door of her toom flew open and a man appeared in front of her with a sword in his hand.
"..."
She watched in surprise as Xu Wei fought with the intruder. Surprisingly, the young man was good with his sword and it didn’t take long before he overpowered the intruder. However, just as he was about to struck the final blow, the other person turned into a ball of demonic energy and escaped through the window.
Realizing that Xu Wei was ready to chase after the demon, Xiang Ling stopped him. "There’s no need." She told him before she finally let go of his arm.
"But Master, he’s a demon." Xu Wei stated the obvious while seeking permission to chase after the intruder.
"And that’s why I don’t want you to chase after him. He’s a powerful demon and you are a fairy with damaged primordial spirit. Are you looking for a way to die by going after him?" Xiang Ling reprimanded thd man who just became her personal guard not too long ago.
Xu Wei was ready to protest when he finally noticed the state of Xiang Ling. His eyes then quickly scanned the area and he soon understood the situation when he noticed the bathtub. However, as soon as realized what that demon could have witnessed, he felt his blood boiling.
"Xu Wei, are you alright?" Xiang Ling asked in worry when she noticed the sudden angry look on the man’s face.
Instead of saying anything, Xu Wei grabbed a robe from the cloth stand and draped it over Xiang Ling’s shoulders, wrapping her almost wet inner robe that wasn’t doing a good enough job of hiding her modesty.
"Get changed and go to bed, Master. I will patrol around the manor and make sure no one enters again." The man didn’t look at Xiang Ling again and was ready to leave the room when he got stopped by the woman again.
"What-"
He didn’t get the chance to finish his sentence as she grabbed his wrist and started reading his pulse. Even before she opened her mouth to speak, he knew that he was about to get reprimanded.
"Are you living with nine lives or something? Have you seen your situation? Don’t even think about patrolling or some other nonsense. Return to your room immeditely and rest. Don’t make me waste my efforts on saving someone as stupid as you."
Xu Wei opened his mouth to protest but one sharp glare from Xiang Ling had him closing his mouth. With a sigh of dejection, he gave a nod of his head in acceptance.
"Good. Also, don’t tell anyone about what just happened. There’s no need to make everyone worry. I will look into this matter later." Xiang Ling ordered and Xu Wei once again nodded his head in understanding.
She waited until he walked out of the room before she used a spell to lock the place and took off the robes. She then quickly got dressed and made her way to the bed all the while thinking about the incident that just took place.
Why was a demon in the Chen Manor and why did he try to attack her? Was it just a coincidence?
So many questions were filled in her brain and there was no quick way of finding their answers. All that she did was to speculate and form theories about the possibilities.
Not feeling relived, she cast a spell around the entire manor before she finally got under the covers to sleep. But even after certain long minutes, she was unable to sleep.
She was busy tossing and turning when she heard the soft knocks on the door. Knowing exactly who had come to meet her this late at night she just used her powers to open the door and remained in the bed.
The man stepped inside before he locked the door and then used his own powers to cast a spell on it. He made his way toward the bed and stopped next to her.
"I felt you casting the spell. What happened?"
Right. Whoever the intruder was, he was powerful enough to hide his presence long enough. It was only when he was so close to her did she pick on his presence, but it seemed like the other powerful people living in the manor were also unable to sense his presence... except for Xu Wei.
Xiang Ling contemplated whether she should tell him about the intruder or not, but considering the fact that the two of them were no longer close enough to make the other worry with their personal matters, she decided against it.
"It’s nothing. You can return to your room." Saying that, she turned her back to him and closed her eyes to pretend to sleep.
She waited to hear him move but even after several long seconds, the man kept standing in his initial position. Seconds ticked by and finally, after who knew how many moments later, she felt him removing the blanket before he slipped into the bed behind her.
"What are you doing?" She asked while her heart thumped crazily inside her chest. Every cell in her body suddenly became alive as she felt the touch of his body against her back.
"I want to sleep with you tonight." He whispered before wrapping his ram around her waist from the behind and pulling her against him.
"Dao Ming..."
Xiang Ling’s voice was a mere whisper as she tried to not turn and look at him.
"Just let me hold you, Little Star. Only for tonight. Please." The plea was real which made it impossible for Xiang Ling to refuse his request.
