Journey To Become an Insanely Pampered Wife

Chapter 160: Xu Wei

Chapter 160: Xu Wei

The end of the rainy season arrived sooner than expected. Within blinks, two months went by while Xiang Ling immersed herself in work and work alone. Since Zuan Hu started helping Wei Guang with the household matters, Xiang Ling shifted her entire attention on preparing the servants for their future duties.

She also used this time to build the greenhouse next to the Inn with the help of the new servants and taught them how to take care of the plants and vegetables. The greenhouse was almost half the size of the entire Inn and she grew almost every kind of plant there.

Just like Wei Guang told her, a lot of people passed by the construction site every day and within these two months, the Inn became a hot topic among all the nearby cities and villages. Everyone was anticipating the opening of the biggest Inn in the entire Nanxia County.

For the past five days, it had been raining heavily and most of the work had been forced to stop for the time being as the rain barely stopped even for an hour throughout the day. If it wasn’t raining heavily, then it was raining lightly. There were other times when the wind was just too strong to even step out of the protection of the buildings.

It was also raining at the moment as another day came to an end. Xiang Ling made her way toward the servant quarters and knocked on the door of the room located at the farthest north. A moment later, she pushed the door open and stepped inside the dark room.

"How many times do I have to remind you that you need to keep at least one lantern on after evening? You never seem to listen." She reprimanded the man as she lit up one of the lanterns sitting next to the door. Once the room got filled with the warm glow of the lantern’s light, she turned around and looked at the man sitting on the bed.

The room was not even one-third the size of her private chamber and except for the bed, a bedside table, and a wooden cabinet, there was no other furniture there. The window was tightly closed as usual and the dinner was sitting untouched on top of the bedside table.

A sigh escaped Xiang Ling’s lips as she made her way toward the bed. "Why haven’t you eaten your dinner yet?" She asked while taking a seat on the edge of the bed.

"I’m not hungry." Came the usual reply from the man who was looking a hundred time better than how he looked the day she found him severely injured in the Black Market. It took him weeks to regain consciousness despite the spiritual medicines and elixirs she kept feeding him.

"And I have told you that it shouldn’t be about whether you are hungry or not until you are fully healed. Let me check your pulse and then finish your meal." She reached out for his hand but the man pulled it away immediately.

She turned her hard gaze at his face and found him staring at his lap. "You should stop worrying about me. Don’t try too hard to save me." He suddenly said.

"Don’t you think it’s too late to say that now? After all that I went through in order to save you, is this how you are going to repay me? Besides, you were the one who begged me to save you that day. Why have you suddenly become so ungrateful?" Xiang Ling couldn’t help but remind him.

"I didn’t think you would really help me. No one ever did." His voice was so soft and low that if not for her enhanced hearing, Xiang Ling would have missed his words.

Letting out another deep sigh, she took out a vial of elixir from her sleeve and handed it over to him. "Drink it quickly and then I will help you in channeling your internal energy. Your Primordial Spirit hasn’t healed properly yet."

The man didn’t accept the vial, nor did he said anything for a while. He just kept looking at her with an unreadable expression on his face. "Why are you helping me so much?" He finally asked after a while.

Xiang Ling shrugged lightly before she replied, "Maybe so that you can become healthy and spend the rest of your life serving me?"

"I thought you were going to send me away as soon as I healed." The man said as he recalled her words from the early days of when he regained his consciousness.

"That was the initial plan because I thought you would heal within a few days. But after all the energy and my precious herbs that I have used to bring you back to life, I have changed my mind. I want you to get healthy as soon as possible and serve me to return the favor." Xiang Ling said with a teasing smile on her lips.

Her words brought a genuine smile on the man’s lips, something that took Xiang Ling with complete surprise as she had seen only his blank face for the past two months. Even though it was only a little curve at the corners of his lips, it was still a far cry from his usual blank look.

"Alright." He suddenly spoke and finally took the vial from her hand. "I will give you my words today - I will serve you in return of saving my life for the rest of my life." He then opened the vial and emptied its content in his mouth while Xiang Ling stared at him in shock.

"You didn’t need to become so serious. I was just joking around. Of course I will allow you to leave if that’s what you want-"

"But I wasn’t joking." He said while cutting off Xiang Ling mid-sentence. "I was serious when I said that I will serve you for the rest of my life, and I will keep my word. From this day onwards, Xu Wei is at your disposal Lady Chen."
