Chapter 157: The Right One
Chapter 157: The Right One
"Why do you have men’s clothes in your possession?"
The question came from Xin Cheng who demanded an answer from Xiang Ling while keeping his intense gaze fixed on her.
"..."
Xiang Ling couldn’t help but stare at the Demon Emperor in silence. When she saved the slave, the last thing she expected was to see Xin Cheng and Dao Ming acting so jealous and possessive of her. But she would be lying if she said that she wasn’t enjoying this unexpected but cute side of theirs.
"These are mine as you can see by their size. I used to wear them sometimes to hide my identity while I was wandering around in the other realms." Xiang Ling explained while trying to not look embarrassed at the confession of her dressing up like men. It was the perfect disguise to blend in with general public and not stand out wherever she went. Most of the time, she enjoyed being the most beautiful woman in the Five Realms, but there were other times when her beauty caused her a lot of troubles and brought too much attention to her.
Her reply made both the men pay close attention to the robe she just handed out for the slave and noticed that it was indeed too small for him.
No one spoke after that and the carriage was suddenly filled with silence. Couple of moments later, the carriage came to a sudden stop.
"What’s wrong?" Dao Ming asked the coachman who was one of his servants.
"My Lord, the city gates are closed." The coachman replied from the front of the carriage.
The three of them sighed together as realization dawned over them. "How can we forgot about this?" Xiang Ling asked and was immediately gifted with two intense glares from the men.
Clearing her throat, she muttered, "Fine. My fault." Their plan was to return early in the morning, but because of the unexpected situation that she brought upon them, they had to return immediately. Among all the chaos and hurry, they completely forgot that the city gates wouldn’t be opening until sunrise.
"My Lords, where are we heading now?" The coachman asked and both the men turned their attention toward Xiang Ling as they waited for her to make the decision. After thinking for a moment, she answered, "Only two hours are left before sunrise. Maybe we can wait here for the gates to open."
"Alright." Dao Ming approved her suggestion and told the coachman to park the carriage at a distance from the city wall.
Xiang Ling was ready to enter her Spatial Realm and use the remaining two hours of the night to cultivate and recharge inside the space, but she stopped when she saw Xin Cheng scowling at the unconscious man. Deciding against her initial plan of disappearing inside the Spatial Realm, she remained in the carriage with the two men.
As minutes ticked by and the silence grew heavy, she found herself getting lost under the influence of sleep. After working throughout the day and spending almost the entire night in the Underground Slave Market, her mortal body had long reached its limit. She was so tired that she didn’t even realized when she finally gave into the temptation and lost herself into a deep slumber.
Xin Cheng had been keeping his attention on the woman who was struggling to keep her body from falling while she tried to stay awake. However, she soon lost the battle. Her body swayed before it leaned forward. His body moved before his mind could have even processed what he was doing. The next thing he knew, the woman was in his arms while deep asleep without any care in the world.
Adjusting her in a comfortable position, he let her rest her head against his shoulder and lightly wrapped his arm around her to keep her from falling again. Then, his gaze shifted to his friend who had been watching everything in silence.
"Why didn’t you catch her?" Xin Cheng asked and received a smile from the Spirit Beast King in return before the latter added, "Because I knew you will. Enjoy the sweet moment I have allowed you to experience."
Xin Cheng opened his mouth to say something but then closed it. His gaze shifted back on the woman in his arms and he felt himself relaxing as well. She felt perfect in his arms. "Have you really made up your mind?" He asked the question he had been wanting to ask for a while by now.
Dao Ming let out a small sigh before he gave a small nod of his head in response to the question. "I have."
"But she’s an Immortal, Ah Ming." Xin Cheng tried to remind his friend the one major point he kept forgetting about when it came to the Supreme Immortal Xing.
"I know, and I don’t care. If she can accept me as the Spirit Beast King, then I can accept her as a Supreme Immortal too." Dao Ming replied but his words didn’t do much to convince Xin Cheng.
"That’s because she is still young. She knows little about the politics and hatred between the Upper and the Lower Realms. She’s too pure when it comes to understanding why an Immortal can never be with anyone else but with another Immortal. Unless you are ready to let go of everything once she will return to the Celestial Realm, you shouldn’t get too involved in this illusion. I don’t want you to be heartbroken, Ah Ming."
Dao Ming was silent for a while before he spoke, "I know what you are trying to say, Ah Xin. But don’t you think we will be giving up too quickly without even trying our best? You already know that we aren’t the only ones. There are the Night Immortal and the Crown Prince Xian as well. And let’s not forget about the Crown Prince of the Water Realm. Maybe she’s indeed the right one. Maybe she will eventually bring an end to the hatred between the four Realms and unite them."
