After half a month, Xiang Ling finally got to have a hearty meal with her husbands. She sat down at the dining table along with Wei Guang, Zhe Yuan, and Li Xian, and the four of them enjoyed the lunch that Fu Xiao and An Mei had prepared for them.
There was braised pork belly, dumplings, braised chicken, Sichuan hot and sour soup, stir-fried vegetables, braised bamboo shoots, stir-fried snow peas, and finally Osmanthus Cake. The food sitting in front of her on the table was a far cry from what she got to eat on her very first day in the Chen Manor.
After thinking for a moment, she picked up her chopsticks and tasted the stir-fried vegetables first. Just like she had guessed, the rich taste and spiritual energy coated her taste buds, confirming that these vegetables came from the greenhouse.
"Our hard work is finally paying." She said while looking at the two young women who quickly nodded their heads with bright smiles on their lips.
"My Lady, all the vegetables in our greenhouse are so fresh and rich in taste. They are the top-grade vegetables that couldn’t be found even in the royal kitchens." Fu Xiao stated proudly and her choice of words made Xiang Ling chuckle.
"Have you been to the palace kitchens?" Xiang Ling asked the young woman who slowly shook her head in denial, realizing her mistake.
The rest of the lunch was filled with a lot of talking as they all exchanged their stories for the past half-month. After finishing her lunch, Xiang Ling went to her chamber and took a bath as she last bathed before they set out from the Lin Family’s Village. She washed her hair and body thoroughly before she quickly finished the bath and stepped out to get dressed.
She chose a dark green colored hanfu with a white colored inner robe. She styled her hair and wore her favorite white jade hairpin before putting on earrings and bracelets to complete the look. After finishing her skincare that made her skin look plump and hydrated, she put on a red lip color and stepped out of her room while hanging the perfume sachet from her waist belt.
She felt refreshed and smelled so good that it made her feel really happy. She headed straight toward the direction of the Main Hall where the youngsters from the Lin Family’s Village were already waiting for her.
"My Lady, you are looking so beautiful." Fu Xiao was unable to hold back from praising the beauty of her lady when she saw the lady wearing a dark color instead of the usual light-colored dresses she had been wearing for the past couple of weeks. The dark color looked so good against her fair skin and despite no makeup, her skin was glowing which made her look way younger than she used to look in the past when she used to wear a lot of makeup.
"Thank you, Ah Xiao." Xiang Ling thanked the young woman before she took her seat and turned to face the children who were also staring at her with awe-filled eyes. They were finally seeing the noble lady of the Country magistrate’s family instead of the benevolent young woman who came to their village to help them fight the plague.
Among the ten children whom Xiang Ling had brought along with her from the Lin Family’s Village, six were girls while four were boys. The eldest among them was a young maiden around fifteen-year-old named Wang Yan. She had an eleven-year-old brother with her named Wang Tao.
Then there were two thirteen-year-old girls named Yang Hui and Zhou Yan. Wu Xia was twelve and Liu Fang was nine. Lastly, the little five-year-old girl was Xixi.
There was a fourteen-year-old young man named Ying Lei. A seven-year-old boy named Lin Jie, and finally a four-year-old little boy named Xu Han.
Xiang Ling took her time assessing the children as her brain formed potential plans for their future. The double doors of the Main Hall opened a moment later and two figures stepped inside - Xiao Mei and Xiao Hao.
"Master." Both of them greeted Xiang Ling as they kneeled on one knee to salute her.
"Rise." Xiang Ling said with a soft smile on her lips and watched as both of them immediately stood up. Even though it had not been too long since they arrived at the Chen Manor and started cultivating, they had changed so much from their past selves. They both were dressed in dark-colored clothes and looked more mature, and strong.
Turning her attention toward the group of youngsters, she started speaking, "Wang Yan, Wu Xia, Yang Hui, Zhou Yan, and Ying Lei, the five of you step on the right side, and the rest step toward the left side."
Her words were followed immediately as everyone shifted from their positions and within seconds, there were two groups of children standing there.
"Wang Tao, Liu Fang, Xixi, Lin Jie, and Xu Han - I’m giving the five of you a chance to learn cultivation and martial arts under the guidance of Senior Mei and Senior Hao. If you all decide to follow this path, these two seniors will be the ones teaching you from now on. But if any of you doesn’t want to learn cultivation or martial arts, I’ll make other arrangements for you."
"We accept Lady Chen’s kindness." Wang Tao was the first one to speak as he bowed deeply. Following him, the other four also quickly bowed and showed their gratitude.
"Great. Xiao Mei, Xiao Hao, please look after them." Xiang Ling then turned her attention toward the other group of children and spoke, "Don’t feel dejected. The reason I didn’t include the five of you in the other group is because your current age can give you the chance to learn something else that these young kids can’t learn at their age. If you all agree, then I want to train the five of you in the art of doing business."
