"Demonic Poison?"
Xiang Ling was unable to hide her shock. She drew the vial toward her with the help of spiritual force to take a closer look at the poisonous liquid. Even from the distance, she was able to feel the strong demonic aura of the poison and as the vial drew closer, she realized just how fetal and powerful the poison was.
"Does it mean... demons are behind what is currently happening in this village?" The question wasn’t directed at anyone as she just wondered the thought out loud, yet, Liying answered - "If we take this demonic poison as evidence, then it is indeed the demons who seemed to be behind this plague."
A frown made its appearance on Xiang Ling’s face as she tried to connect the dots. "Within two months there have been two such cases linked to the demons. First was the attacks on the northern villages and now this plague. It seems like something serious is going on without our knowledge. Demons suddenly started causing chaos in the Mortal Realm, neglecting the peace treaty between the Five Realms. All this can’t be just a coincidence."
"You know what is the weirdest part in all this?" Liying pointed out - "... that the demons aren’t even trying to hide their tracks."
Xiang Ling scoffed as she replied, "Why would they hide it? Throughout history, they have always attacked the weaker realms to either cause chaos or challenge the authority of the Heavenly Realm. Since they have started causing trouble in the Mortal Realm, they already have a plan, and it means that more such situations will arrive in the future. More innocent mortals will lose their lives."
The two women fell silent after that, both lost in their own thoughts. It was Fairy Liying who broke the silence after a couple of long minutes. "What are we going to do next?"
"Before answering that, let me ask you some more questions." Xiang Ling requested and received a positive nod from the Fairy. "It has already been a month since the plague broke out, has no government officials or Immortal sects stepped forward to provide help?"
The disappointed look on Fairy Liying’s face was already enough of an answer. Letting out a small sigh, the woman answered, "In the beginning, the Local Magistrate appointed a group of official guards and a physician to help the villagers. Unfortunately, the entire group caught the disease within the first few days of their arrival. Most of them died within a few weeks. After that, the Local Magistrate gave the order to seal the entire village to prohibit people from entering or leaving the village. A group of ten disciples from the Wangjing Medical Sect arrived around a week ago along with another group of disciples from the Wudang Sect. While they have managed to control the spread of the disease, they have been unsuccessful in finding any cure to this poison."
Xiang Ling nodded her head in understanding. Her brain was busy processing all the information. A moment or two later, she finally answered Liying’s initial question. "We will first take a look around the village to check on the villagers. We will also need to divide the villagers into different groups based on how severely the poison has affected them. Then we will go and meet the disciples of Wangjing Medical Sect to find out what medicines they are using to control the spread of the disease. Later, I will try to find the antidote to the poison."
Fairy Liying gave a nod of her head, accepting Xiang Ling’s plan. Seeing the calm and collected appearance of the Supreme Immortal Xing, Liying was also able to relax a little bit.
"You can leave now. I will meet you downstairs in a few minutes." Xiang Ling told the Fairy who immediately stood up to leave. Once Liying was gone, Xiang Ling locked the door with a spell and immediately entered her space. Without wasting any time, she created a formation inside the common room of her Summer Cottage before setting the vial of Demonic Poison in the very center of the formation. Once everything was in place, she channeled her spiritual energy into the formation to activate it. With a powerful force, the formation lit up in bright golden light and targeted all its power into the vial.
"Little Pink."
Xiang Ling called out to her familiar and the little creature immediately appeared next to her.
"Master!" Little Pink chirped happily as soon as her gaze fell on Xiang Ling. Ever since that night when Xiang Ling took Little Pink and the White Lion as her spiritual beasts, the former beast had been acting extra sweetly as if there was no end to her happiness.
"Keep watch on this formation. It will last for about seven hours. Make sure that nothing goes wrong with the formation." Xiang Ling advised Little Pink who quickly nodded her head in understanding.
"Master, what kind of formation is it?" Little Pink asked with curiosity when she failed to recognize the formation.
"It’s a special formation to find out the core of this Demonic Poison. This formation will give us answers regarding the source of this poison." Xiang Ling explained and Little Pink nodded her head in understanding.
"I’m leaving now," saying that, Xiang Ling immediately left the Spatial Realm and returned to the room inside the Inn. She also grabbed some necessitates from the Herb Cottage before leaving the space. She first took out a little golden-colored pill from a bottle and gulped it down before putting on a veil to cover the lower half of her face.
Once she was ready, she headed downstairs where the others were already waiting for her. She handed them the pills, informing them that the pills were to keep them safe from the disease for the time being, before handing over the veil and the masks. She even took out four pairs of gloves and made everyone wear them while she too covered her hands.
After they all were ready, the four of them stepped out of the Inn.
