Interstellar Era: Starting As a Cleaner

Chapter 49: Abundant Harvest

Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Abundant Harvest

Yang Bo’s guess was reasonable. On the game forum, the picture of him carrying several Mecha melee Weapons was quite eye-catching.

"Haha, does this guy have a hoarding fetish?"

"What do you know? These Weapons have no problem slashing birds. But his luck is unparalleled—every time he goes out, he runs into Mutants."

"Exactly. He wasted all that time and got nothing in return?"

"Poor unlucky bastard. Still, picking up more Mecha melee Weapons is fine for slashing birds and killing rats."

"Haha."

In the eyes of other players, Yang Bo had gained absolutely nothing. They were unaware of the news about him securing an A-tier Mutant Beast last time.

To them, as long as one didn’t capture Mutants or Mutant Animals, it meant zero gains.

Yang Bo still chose to put these melee Mecha Weapons in the warehouse. Right now, he wanted to check his current Skills and had no time to go out and take out the trash.

Mecha Maintenance: Advanced (142/1000)

Tracking: Advanced (103/1000)

Yang Bo looked closely. Two new abilities had been added: Mecha Maintenance and Tracking. Both had reached Advanced. He figured Tracking came from those Mutants clamoring at the cave entrance who were injured by the Hydrogen Bomb and subsequently killed when the Air-Ground Combat Aircraft missiles destroyed the underground passage.

Disguise and Dynamic Field of View had also reached the Grandmaster Level. He guessed this was because the Hydrogen Bomb’s shockwave was confined within the Celestial Pit, forcing the immense impact force to surge straight into the underground passage.

Charge had reached the Master Level.

Yang Bo picked up a Metal ornament that he used to train his Sound Wave Control. With a light squeeze, the Metal behaved like dough.

Next, he picked up a jade ornament. It shattered with a simple squeeze, and when he rubbed his hands together, it turned into powder.

"Tsk, tsk." Yang Bo looked at his hands, feeling brimming with Power all over. He felt that even if a Mecha was standing in front of him, he could send it flying with a single punch.

"I’m getting arrogant," he murmured. Yang Bo knew this feeling only arose from a sudden, dramatic increase in strength.

What Yang Bo was more curious about was, with his physique being this strong, how much electricity his body could now absorb.

However, there was no way to test it right now; he had no place to discharge the electricity. It was impossible to boil water again. Even when washing up, Yang Bo was extremely careful, afraid his Power would be unstable.

Fortunately, nothing bad happened. As Yang Bo paced around his room, he pondered over the events in the game this time.

Particularly the two times he killed Mutants, neither of which granted him the Mutants’ special Superpower.

He wondered, "Is it because I already have the Electric Energy Control Superpower, which conflicts with other Mutants’ Superpowers?

"Or is there an individual difference between my body and a Mutant’s body, making it impossible for me to acquire their Superpower?"

Yang Bo didn’t have an answer. The gains this time were not small. Last time, he had been thinking about luring those Mutants out, and unexpectedly, they really did come out this time.

"Do these Mutants have a problem with their brains?" Thinking of the Mutant who leaped into the air just from being provoked, Yang Bo felt they were far too easy to enrage and utterly irrational.

After stretching a bit, Yang Bo went back to watch the combat footage. He discovered that the speed of the leading Mutant had actually reached Mach 5. That was not a Mecha or anything of the sort.

"No wonder the Mecha were blown up by these Mutants in the Underworld. These Mutants are much smaller in stature than the Mecha, making them far more agile down there." Yang Bo carefully analyzed the situation. These Mutants were very strong—stronger than him.

Yang Bo didn’t know if he could fly, or if his body could break the sound barrier several times over. In truth, as long as one’s speed was fast enough, what did gravity even matter!

While Yang Bo was pondering over his new abilities, at a certain Genetic Potion company in the Alliance, two people stood in an office as board members interrogated them remotely.

"When did the company get involved with the Red Earl extremist organization?" Through the room’s audio equipment, traces of a furious voice rang out, the board member’s location unknown.

The two being questioned were a bald man and a middle-aged man in a suit. The latter had blond hair and looked very charming.

"Honorable Director, the Security Department failed in its oversight regarding this matter, but the primary responsibility lies with the New Drug Supervision Group," the middle-aged man in the suit said.

"New Drug Supervision Group, what do you have to say?" someone demanded immediately.

The bald man spoke in a completely emotionless tone, "Please look carefully, Directors. It was only after our company’s Security Department failed their mission that they delegated it to our Supervision Group. The Security Department fails despite receiving so much funding every year, let alone us. I believe the Security Department made an inaccurate assessment of the target and provided erroneous information. As for the Red Earl, we merely posted the mission according to standard procedure. We didn’t expect someone from the Red Earl to accept it."

The blond middle-aged man shouted coldly, "You’re lying. We have your call records."

The bald man chuckled. "Where is the evidence? Are you just going by conversations? If so, I could just as easily say you’re a member of the Red Earl extremist organization. Does the Security Department not care about evidence?"

"I think your Supervision Group should be disbanded. You can’t even successfully observe and handle the Tracking of a single resident."

"We weren’t the ones who made the early warning system. The company provided different parameter values based on different Potions."

"Enough! The company has paid a heavy price for this. We need to know as soon as possible whether the new drug works or not. If you don’t solve this problem within a month, we will solve the two of you."

"Agreed!"

"Agreed," the other directors chimed in their agreement one after another.

Afterward, the meeting room’s main doors slowly opened. The bald man and the blond middle-aged man glanced at each other before the bald man spoke up, "I can’t believe I actually have to cooperate with scum like you."

"Heh, you’re not much better. As for those test subjects for the new drug, you people watched and recorded their deaths, reviewing it frame by frame."

"Scum. What good plan do you have?"

"Our Security Department doesn’t like working with incompetent fools..."

"Heh, then let’s see who catches the target first. Oh, I forgot to tell you—our special operatives are still on the planet where the target is located. I wonder if your Security Department has a way to get onto that planet? Haha, haha!"

"Son of a bitch, why didn’t you mention this earlier?"

"Because I’m not certain of success either. You’re an Advanced manager, while I’m just an Intermediate manager. If you don’t step it up, both of us might become Ordinary employees. Who stands to lose more? Haha, haha!"

Over on Yang Bo’s side, he was grinning from ear to ear. He had just tested his Sound Wave Detection and found it was ten times more effective than before. It was practically like having a god’s-eye view. The range had expanded fivefold, the clarity had increased by more than ten times, and moreover, the Genetic Evolver in the neighboring building hadn’t even noticed his detection.
