To have one’s Spirit Root Grade above seven was a sure-shot indicator that, if the cultivator didn’t go astray, they would definitely reach the Core Building Stage in the future.
"Good!" he exclaimed with a firm nod, meeting Zhou Mei’s eyes, and gestured for her to join the group that was standing in an orderly formation near the Sect’s gate. "Go and join them."
"Yes." Zhou Mei nodded with a bright smile and walked past the table towards the group of cultivators who had cleared the first stage.
While at it, she turned back to meet Yi Chen’s eyes and gave him a thumbs up to wish him luck.
Seeing this, a smirk formed on Yi Chen’s face as he took a step forward.
"Stretch forward your hand."
The elder muttered with the same routine tone as earlier.
"Mhm." Yi Chen nodded and did as he was told as the probing sensation washed over his arm for the next few seconds before disappearing completely.
"Nineteen years old."
Yi Chen nodded in confirmation after hearing this. It was a day or two before he had entered the Black Rock Kingdom that his age in the system panel was updated.
Confirming that Yi Chen was below thirty years old, the elder gestured for him to place his hand over the Qi Measuring Orb the next second.
Without a second thought, Yi Chen nodded and placed his hand right on top of it.
However, just then, a sudden thought entered his mind.
’W-Wait...will it also reveal that my Qi has a dark nature?’
His heart skipped a beat the moment he thought about it, but by then it was too late. The orb had already started to glow, and the panel would appear in front of them at any moment.
’Shit...please don’t appear...please don’t appear...’ Yi Chen incessantly prayed, having no means to explain to others how he acquired a dark nature.
However, it seemed as if luck was on his side this time.
A blurry panel had just formed above the orb, but right at that instant, a piercing sound echoed in the air.

Cracks suddenly spread across the orb, and the next second it broke into fine powder.

Raising his hand, the next moment he called the Elder who was in charge of overseeing the entire process.
"Elder Dao!" he called the Overseeing Elder,
Coincidentally, he was also the first elder whose status panel Yi Chen had scanned through earlier.
Making his way next to the elder who had called for him, Dao Jin asked the next second. "Yes, Elder Shen. Is there a problem?"
As he said those words, he cast a suspicion-filled gaze toward Yi Chen before his eyes finally fell on the table that was lying between them.
’It broke...? Didn’t we arrange new ones for the test? Was there a mistake?’ The frown on Dao Jin’s forehead intensified the more he thought over it.
"As you can see, Elder Dao...the orb... it broke during the test. Therefore, I would like to request a new one." Elder Shen stated the next second.
"I understand." Dao Jin nodded the next second and, taking a spare orb out of his storage ring, passed it to Elder Shen the next second. "Here, I’ll write the damage report with regard to this incident, so you should just focus on continuing with the verification."
"Hm, thank you, Elder Dao." Elder Shen nodded his head in a grateful manner before finally glancing towards Yi Chen.
As he did so, he placed the orb on top of the table and said, "Place your hand over it again now."
"Y-Yes, Elder..." Yi Chen hesitated a little but placed his hand on top of the orb soon after.
’On second thought...since this artefact was made by human cultivators who clearly know that humans cannot possess dark Qi, then it would be odd if it were able to detect the Dark Qi in the first place, right? Yes, it was just my overthinking earlier...’
Using those words to placate the doubts in his mind, Yi Chen awaited the results alongside Elder Shen and Elder Dao as the orb began to glow once again.
On a closer look, one would realise that it shone more brightly than earlier as a few moments later a hazy panel began to appear in front of them.
’Uhm...it won’t break again, right?’
Yi Chen couldn’t help but think that, as a strange expression formed on his face.
Thankfully, nothing of that sort happened as the panel’s content was crystal clear to all of them the very next second.

"P-Peak grade?!" Elder Shen couldn’t help but exclaim with widened eyes the moment his eyes fell on Yi Chen’s grading.
"T-This..." A similar expression was also formed on Elder Dao Jin’s face the moment he witnessed this.
He had stayed only to ensure that there was no trouble with the new orb, but never did he expect to discover an individual with a peak-grade spirit root.
Meanwhile, in stark contrast to their reactions, Yi Chen inwardly sighed in relief, seeing that only his fire nature was visible.
As for the fact that his spirit root’s grade was actually 10, the highest possible value, he wasn’t very surprised by it and in fact simply nodded in agreement.
