I Was Forced To Marry The Phoenix Empress

Chapter 366: Zhou Mei’s Turn

Chapter 366: Zhou Mei’s Turn

"Why didn’t you go with them? Wasn’t it your idea from the start?" Yi Chen asked with a curious expression while looking at Zhou Mei, who was standing right in front of him in the line.

A few moments ago, Feng Ning had suggested making a bet with him. The content of the bet was simple. They would be joining the other line while Yi Chen would be remaining in the same one.

The ones who got tested first were to give the other party ten spirit stones as a reward.

Having nothing much to do and to make things livelier, Yi Chen naturally agreed to the bet and was expecting them all to go join the other line as they had already made their intentions clear.

However, at the last moment, he saw Zhou Mei walking back from the other side and joining the line right in front of him, which prompted him to ask the earlier question.

"Well..." Zhou Mei answered with an embarrassed smile, "Even though this is the losing side...seeing that Brother Chen was all alone, I didn’t want you to lose all by yourself. So, this time, I’ll accompany you in this defeat."

"Oh? Since when did my Little Mei become so considerate? I’m quite flattered." Yi Chen praised while feigning an overly impressed expression, wanting to further embarrass her.

"Hmph!" Zhou Mei snorted loudly in an attempt to hide her embarrassment and said while folding her hands in an authoritative manner, "Yes, you should be. It’s not always that I tend to go out of my way to help the needy."

Yi Chen let out a light chuckle seeing her antics and said, "Indeed. I’ll remember Little Mei’s generosity for eternity."

Zhou snorted once again hearing those words, but the subtle grin on her face clearly gave away her true emotions.

Knowing that they’d have to wait for quite a few moments, Yi Chen soon shifted the topic of conversation to something miscellaneous in an attempt to kill time.

Time continued to pass slowly, and during this period the two of them made sure to keep track of Feng Ning and the rest after every few minutes.

Even though they had started at the back of the new line, in just an hour’s time they had caught up with them.

Looking at the victorious grin Feng Ning was directing towards Yi Chen, Zhou Mei couldn’t help but comment while looking towards Yi Chen, "Brother Chen, it seems like we are really going to lose..."

"Indeed...it does seem like it. Though there’s still a chance for you to join their side and win. Knowing Feng Ning, she’ll readily let you join them even now." Yi Chen said with a smile, sensing the childish competitive spirit in Zhou Mei’s words.

"No! Since I’ve already made the decision, I’ll naturally stick to it until the end. Otherwise, how could I be called a man?" she said in a passionate tone which would cause anyone to look at her in admiration.

However, that wasn’t the case with Yi Chen as he pointed out something obvious.

"Uhm...but you aren’t a man though..."

"A Woman! I meant a woman!" Zhou Mei exclaimed with a reddened face, clearly embarrassed at the slip of her tongue, making Yi Chen and a few others in the line laugh out loud.

"Hey! Why is everyone laughing? It was just a mistake!" Zhou Mei exclaimed once again in an attempt to defend herself as an aggrieved expression started to appear on her face.

"Haha, I understand, Little Mei. It was indeed just a mistake," Yi Chen bent down a little while trying hard to control his laughter and said while lightly placing his hand over her head, "Though, thanks for accompanying me. Without you, I would have really gotten bored all by myself."

"Hmph!"

With her wronged feeling being completely replaced with that of embarrassment, Zhou Mei immediately turned her eyes away from Yi Chen’s as a snort escaped through her nose.

Yi Chen smiled, seeing that she had calmed down, and withdrew his hand the next second as the two of them continued to wait in the queue.

Another hour slowly passed, and just like they had anticipated, Feng Ning and others were having their cultivation checked at the moment.

"They won in the end..." Zhou Mei muttered after seeing that all three of them had passed the verification and were standing in an orderly fashion right next to the gates.

As she said those words, she turned towards Yi Chen and, seeing signs of disappointment on his face, asked with a curious expression, "Are you starting to regret your decision, Brother Chen?"

"Not really." Yi Chen shook his head and continued, "When I made the decision to stay in this line, I very well knew that there was a chance I would lose since the results were based on probability in the first place, as none of us knew about the Elders doing our verification.

While I lost a few spirit stones, didn’t the bet made by Feng Ning make standing here in the queue for so long more bearable than otherwise?"

Yi Chen asked with a grin the next second.

"True...but why do I feel like you’re trying to sugarcoat your loss?" Zhou Mei asked with narrowed eyes.

"Am I? I wonder." Yi Chen said with a smile, trying to maintain an air of mystery.

"Fine! Don’t tell me." Zhou Mei rolled her eyes, hearing those words while looking ahead at the line, which continued to get shorter minute after minute, before it was finally Zhou Mei’s turn.

"Stretch forward your hand."

The elder muttered in a routine manner, hearing which Zhou Mei did as she was asked.

The next second, she felt a probing sensation all over her arm for a couple of seconds before it completely dissipated.

"Thirteen years old." The elder nodded in an expectant manner while gesturing for her to place her hand on the orb.

"Mhm." Zhou Mei nodded and soon placed her hand on top of the Qi Measuring Orb as the next instant, a panel popped up in front of the elder’s eyes.
