Chapter 360: Feng Lei’s Departure
Chapter 360: Feng Lei’s Departure
A few moments later, Yi Chen knocked on Feng Lei’s door and invited him to the dining room.
Seeing the table that had been neatly laden with delicious food, Feng Lei could no longer keep the warm feeling that had been welling up in his heart, and a warm smile naturally formed on his face.
"The two of you seem to have worked really hard for this..." Feng Lei said while glancing at the table.
Hearing this, both Qin Yao and Yi Chen let out a light laugh. While at it, Yi Chen patted Qin Yao’s back. "While I did play a part, I must tell Elder Lei that it was Qin Yao who was the most invested in this task.
At the store, he scoured through all the shops that were selling a particular item in order to get the freshest possible item, and even while preparing the dinner, he was constantly worried whether Elder Lei would like it or not."
"Is that so?" Elder Lei asked while glancing towards Qin Yao as the smile on his face widened.
"A-Ah," feeling embarrassed because of all the attention he was getting, Qin Yao immediately directed it all towards Yi Chen, "Brother Chen jests! Wasn’t it your idea to plan a dinner for Elder Lei in the first place? If not for your reminder, I wouldn’t have thought about it in the first place."
"Hey, I did tell you about it, but in the end, you were the one who did most of the work so..."
Seeing the two of them bickering over who contributed the most, Feng Lei finally couldn’t hold himself any longer and let out a soft chuckle, "Alright, you two. Let’s start eating lest the food turns cold."
Seeing Feng Lei’s jovial mood, a sense of accomplishment rose in both Yi Chen and Qin Yao’s minds as they immediately responded to his words.
"Yes, Master."
"Yes, Elder Lei."
With those words, everyone took their respective seats and started serving rice, meat, gravy and vegetables to one another as the flavorful smell of a heartily prepared meal encompassed the entire room.
While eating, the two of them kept Feng Lei engaged, asking him many questions about how to make the best of their time at the Heavenly Azure Dragon Sect. Feng Lei patiently answered them all with a warm smile on his face.
Time seemed to be moving much quicker than usual, as by the time they were done with their light discussion, it was close to half past ten.
Seeing this, Feng Lei gestured to the two of them to wrap things up so that their minds could be well rested for tomorrow.
"Remember to completely relax your body and mind tomorrow for the entrance test the day after. Otherwise, it might affect your performance during the test." Feng Lei said while standing up.
"Yes, Master. We’ll keep that in mind." Qin Yao answered with a smile, and Yi Chen nodded from the side.
With that said, the two of them saw Feng Lei leave the dining room before thoroughly cleaning the table and the plates and finally calling it a night.
The dinner had exceeded both of their expectations, as seeing the warm smile on Feng Lei’s face had made all their efforts feel worthwhile.
"How about we prepare tomorrow’s breakfast for him as well? Since it might be a long journey, we can also pack some for him later. What does Brother Chen think?" Qin Yao suddenly asked with glistening eyes.
"Oh? That’s a good idea. Let’s do that then. I’ll wake you up early tomorrow, and then we can start the preparation together." Yi Chen nodded in agreement.
With that said, both of them soon went to their rooms to cultivate for half an hour or more before finally calling it a night.
’Now that I think of it...isn’t it the first time I shared a meal with Uncle?’ Yi Chen lightly chuckled while lying on his bed as he turned to his side to look at the pleasant night outside the window.
The gentle chill of the night soon brought a wave of drowsiness with it, making Yi Chen fall asleep soon after.
Shhhk...
’Hm...?’
Early in the morning, a subtle sound broke Yi Chen’s sleep, causing him to frown while looking out of the window.
It was still dark outside, but the bluish light from the sun that was still below the horizon had slowly started to pervade the sky.
’Y-Yes...I needed to wake up early today.’
Inwardly muttering to himself, he soon pushed himself out of bed before making his way out into the corridor.
Just like he had said the night before, he was going to wake Qin Yao up.
However, he had just taken a few steps in the direction of his room before his steps came to a stop.
’Wait a second...’ A frown formed on Yi Chen’s face the next second as, turning around a little, his eyes immediately went in the direction of Feng Lei’s room.
Unlike usual, its door was wide open.
’Hm? Why is he awake so early? Could it be he’s packing?’ Yi Chen thought in confusion as he turned around the next second and made his way to Feng Lei’s room in order to greet him and, while at it, help him with the packing.
However, the moment Yi Chen reached the doorway, an empty room greeted his eyes.
"...H-He already left?"
Yi Chen muttered with surprise evident in his eyes as the next second his eyes fell on Feng Lei’s study table.
There was a piece of paper that was resting underneath a stone with a few words scribbled on it.
Making his way inside, Yi Chen picked up the sheet and read through the words.
’I’ve never been good with goodbyes, so I’ll be leaving early, Yi Chen. Let Qin Yao sleep a little more, as there’s no need for you two to prepare an extra meal for me.
Also, with me gone, Qin Yao would have only you to depend upon, so take care of him well. He looks up to you as an elder brother, so don’t disappoint him.
Lastly, grow up well, the two of you. I’ll meet you again in a few years.’
"..."
As Yi Chen read through the words, he was immediately reminded of the sound that had woken him up earlier.
"...So, it was Uncle." Yi Chen shook his head with a bitter smile the next second.
