Chapter 334: Why Still So Cold to Him?
Chapter 334: Chapter 334: Why Still So Cold to Him?
Faced with Yun Sheng’s persistent questioning, Lin Yueyao didn’t answer. Instead, she stared at her with a paranoid and stubborn gaze.
"Now it’s my turn to ask." Clutching onto her last bit of leverage, she pressed unwillingly, "Did you provide spiritual guidance for Bai Ye? You don’t have a spiritual body, and your Level isn’t high either. What gives you the ability to soothe the spiritual rampage of an SSS-level Sentinel like him?"
Lin Yueyao hadn’t hesitated to risk using the Dark Nest induction agent, forcibly elevating herself to S-Class. She had once finally seized an opportunity when Bai Ye was injured and unconscious to give him spiritual guidance, but she ended up failing. Rejected by his spiritual power, she had nearly suffered severe injuries herself.
Yet Yun Sheng, a low-level Guide without a spiritual body, had accomplished what she couldn’t achieve even if she risked her life. This massive gap made her harbor deep resentment.
Yun Sheng said lightly, "That’s right, I provided guidance for him. As for the rest, that’s your second question. Finish giving me the information I want first."
Lin Yueyao’s face stiffened. Left speechless by her retort, she had no choice but to grit her teeth and confess, "A week from now, at five in the afternoon. I don’t know the true identity of the person in charge of the operation. Zhang Qi helped coordinate the entire process. The other party should be the adjutant of an Admiral."
Hearing this, Yun Sheng narrowed her eyes slightly. Zhang Qi was already dead, which meant this clue had hit a dead end. It seemed that if they wanted to dig out the mastermind behind the scenes, they would have to rely on Bai Ye to investigate.
At this moment, Lin Yueyao’s expression became impatient again. Staring at Yun Sheng, she sharply demanded, "Answer me now! What exactly is going on with your spiritual power?"
"To be honest, I don’t know what’s going on with my spiritual power either, but I can indeed soothe Bai Ye’s spiritual body and stabilize his rampaging spiritual power."
After saying that, Yun Sheng didn’t give Lin Yueyao a chance to continue pestering her and immediately threw out the next question.
"Now for the third question. Which Sentinels and Guides does Dark Nest still have under its control?"
At those words, Lin Yueyao laughed out of anger, her hoarse voice dripping with mockery. "Heh. Yun Sheng, you think you can trade a flimsy ’I don’t know’ for so much core information from my hands? Do you really think I’m an idiot and so easily fooled?" She gritted her back teeth, the hostility that had been suppressed by the tranquilizers surging up once again.
Watching her agitated appearance, Yun Sheng’s expression remained calm. She spoke unhurriedly,
"I’m not brushing you off. Ever since my spiritual power awakened, it has been different from others. As for why I don’t have a spiritual body and why it’s different, I can’t figure it out myself.
"However, Bai Ye has already taken me to the research institute for an examination. If you really want to know that badly, I can show you the examination report once the results are out."
Hearing this, Lin Yueyao stared into her eyes, trying to find even the slightest trace of a lie. Yet all she saw was calm candor without a single hint of evasion or guilt. Yun Sheng wasn’t lying to her. She hesitated for a few seconds before probing, "Do you mean what you say? Are you really willing to give me the examination report?"
"I always keep my word."
Lin Yueyao took several deep breaths, reining in most of the hostility in her eyes. After repeatedly weighing the pros and cons in her heart, she finally spoke slowly after a long while.
"I don’t have the complete list in my hands. But I do have a superior. The induction agent I take every month is all given to me by this person. The news that I’ve been detained by the Tower for investigation has most likely reached his ears by now.
"If you want to get the list and dig deep into Dark Nest’s forces on the Capital Star, you have to let me out. As long as I regain my freedom and he confirms that I haven’t exposed any secrets and am completely fine, he will contact me sooner or later.
"When that happens, you can follow the trail, capture him, and get all the information you want."
This information was highly valuable, but Yun Sheng didn’t show the slightest bit of joy. Instead, she furrowed her brow slightly, scrutinizing Lin Yueyao on the bed. Lin Yueyao had always been jealous and resentful of her and had just been cursing her so viciously. How could she suddenly be kind enough to proactively help them draw out her superior? There was definitely more to this than met the eye. However, Yun Sheng didn’t voice her doubts. She didn’t have the authority over this matter; the pros, cons, and risks would have to be weighed by Bai Ye and the higher-ups of the Tower.
Seeing that Yun Sheng hadn’t made her stance clear for a long time, Lin Yueyao’s tone carried a bit of sarcasm. "What, you don’t believe me?"
Yun Sheng raised an eyebrow, her tone calm and straightforward. "Whether I believe you or not isn’t important. Even if I did, I don’t have the authority to secretly release you from the isolation room. The decision lies in Bai Ye’s hands. Do you have any other information to confess?"
Lin Yueyao’s face sank, and she shook her head. "No more."
Having received her answer, Yun Sheng didn’t stay any longer. She turned around decisively and walked toward the door, preparing to share all the information she had just acquired with Bai Ye and Si Jin outside. Meanwhile, as Lin Yueyao stared at her retreating back, a layer of intense, venomous resentment instantly blanketed her eyes.
* * *
Out in the corridor, it was still quiet. High-level Sentinels were stationed on both sides. Si Jin and Bai Ye stood not far away, one on the left and one on the right. Sensing the movement at the door, both men looked up simultaneously. Yun Sheng walked over, briefly organized her thoughts, and relayed everything Lin Yueyao had told her.
Bai Ye’s brows were tightly knitted, his fingertips unconsciously rubbing his jaw.
"The adjutant of a certain Admiral... There aren’t that many active Admirals in the entire Star Alliance. I’ll have Luo Cheng arrange for people to investigate them one by one right now and see if we can lock onto this person’s identity.
"As for releasing Lin Yueyao to draw out her superior, the risk is too great. She’s already emotionally unstable and addicted to Dark Nest’s induction agent. No one can be certain if she’ll turn on us halfway or even tip off Dark Nest instead.
"Therefore, this matter needs to be considered at length and deliberated carefully."
Yun Sheng nodded, having no objections to this. The issues Bai Ye had raised were exactly what she had considered inside the isolation room. Releasing Lin Yueyao was inherently a double-edged sword.
Beside her, Si Jin hadn’t interjected at all, standing quietly by Yun Sheng’s side the entire time. He didn’t seem to want to interfere in the matter. He merely reached out and held Yun Sheng’s hand, his posture leisurely and indifferent, like a pure bystander.
"I’ve told you everything I know." Yun Sheng looked at Bai Ye. "I can’t get anything else out of her. If there’s nothing else here, we’ll head back first. If there are any developments later, just contact me."
Bai Ye’s lips moved slightly, his gaze landing on Yun Sheng. Selfishly, he wanted her to stay a little longer, even if it was just to exchange a few simple words. But looking at her fingers intertwined with Si Jin’s, as well as her cold demeanor toward him, the words he had meant to say became stuck in his throat.
"Alright, be safe on the way back. If there’s any situation later on, I’ll contact you immediately."
Yun Sheng only gave a soft "Mm" in response.
Si Jin, who had been silently observing the entire time, suddenly raised his eyes and cast a faint glance at Bai Ye. That look carried no emotion, and he looked away in an instant, as if the gesture had merely been unintentional. The next second, he took Yun Sheng’s hand and turned to walk toward the elevator at the end of the corridor.
After they had walked quite a distance, Si Jin’s fingertips gently squeezed Yun Sheng’s palm as he asked, "Why are you still so cold to him?"
