Chapter 271: Taking Yun Sheng to Meet Her Future Love Rival
Chapter 271: Chapter 271: Taking Yun Sheng to Meet Her Future Love Rival
Before Yun Sheng could figure out how to reply, her terminal lit up again.
Bai Ye’s second message arrived right at that moment. Exactly an hour had passed since his last text, as if he had perfectly calculated when she would finish her work. She tapped it open.
Bai Ye: His name is Mo Chen. He’s been a friend of mine for years. In the field of spiritual power research, no one in the entire Star Domain is more professional than him. Yun Sheng, your spiritual power situation is special. I would feel much more at ease if you let him take a look.
Yun Sheng stared at the name "Mo Chen" on the screen and fell silent. She realized it really was him.
She remembered how, in her dream, Mo Chen had told her that her spiritual power was extremely unique and hoped she would come to the institute for a comprehensive check-up. She never expected him to be Bai Ye’s friend.
It really was a small world.
Yun Sheng smiled helplessly and tapped a few times on her terminal’s screen.
Yun Sheng: Okay, I understand.
After sending the message, she leaned back into the sofa and stared blankly at the ceiling.
Lin Hao getting injured, the family recognition banquet, the Tower test, meeting Mo Chen... all these events were tangled together like a messy ball of yarn, leaving her completely overwhelmed. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, forcing down her surging emotions.
She decided not to think about it anymore. All of these matters could wait until she had properly rested.
Meanwhile, inside a laboratory at the Central Star Domain High-level Biological Spirit Research Institute.
Bai Ye stood before the floor-to-ceiling windows, his fingertips lingering on the terminal’s interface. Displayed on the screen were the messages he had just sent to Yun Sheng, along with the one from an hour ago—none of which had received a reply. A hint of anxiety hid in the depths of his eyes, making the aura around him a bit more restless than usual.
Over the years, he rarely felt this unsettled. Only things involving Yun Sheng could so easily sway his emotions.
Finally, the terminal vibrated. The screen lit up, and Yun Sheng’s reply caught his eye. Those few simple words seemed to instantly smooth away all the anxiety in his heart. The faint shadow of a smile tugged at the corners of his lips, and an almost imperceptible softness rippled in his eyes.
"Whose message could make our White War God so happy?" a teasing voice suddenly drifted over.
Wearing a clean white lab coat, Mo Chen rubbed his throbbing temples and walked over from the testing station, looking at Bai Ye with a hint of inquiry.
"No one," Bai Ye replied. He turned off his terminal screen, his expression returning to its usual coldness.
Mo Chen pushed up his glasses but didn’t press the issue. He walked over to the desk, sat down, and tossed the data terminal in his hand onto the table.
"The results of the examination I just gave you are out," he said. He leaned back in his chair and crossed his hands over his stomach, his tone as flat as if he were reading a lab report. "There are quite a few cracks in your spiritual landscape, but their expansion rate has slowed down significantly. Some of the smaller fissures have even begun to heal. Based on the current situation, as long as you don’t overdraw your spiritual power, it won’t easily riot again."
Bai Ye nodded without saying a word.
Mo Chen looked at him, his eyes narrowing slightly behind his lenses. "Don’t you have anything you want to say? When you came in for an exam previously, the data showed that your spiritual power was highly unstable and could riot at any moment.
"And when you returned from Zone 10, your spiritual landscape was torn up so badly that it was on the verge of total collapse. How could it possibly recover so well in such a short amount of time?"
Bai Ye still didn’t answer. Instead, he walked over to the window and let his gaze fall into the distance.
Looking at his back, Mo Chen said lightly, "If you don’t want to tell me, I won’t ask. But the healing speed of those cracks doesn’t look like natural recovery. It looks more like... traces of being guided. The guide who treated you must have incredibly special spiritual power."
Bai Ye’s shoulders tensed slightly. Observing his reaction, a flash of understanding crossed Mo Chen’s eyes.
"I’m genuinely a bit curious now about who you’re bringing to see me tomorrow."
Bai Ye turned around and looked at him, his gaze shifting slightly. "You’ll know tomorrow."
The corners of Mo Chen’s lips curved upward slightly. It was a faint smile, but it carried a touch of anticipation. "Alright, then I’ll be waiting."
They had known each other for years. In the beginning, Mo Chen had been fascinated by Bai Ye’s highly volatile yet exceptionally powerful spiritual power. He had sought Bai Ye out on his own initiative, relentlessly pestering him until he agreed to be a research subject.
Later on, appreciating Mo Chen’s professionalism and desperately needing to control his own spiritual power, Bai Ye had fully cooperated with every test and research project. Over time, these two seemingly aloof individuals had actually become the closest of friends.
Bai Ye knew Mo Chen’s personality well. The man was only interested in research. Therefore, even if he brought Yun Sheng here and let Mo Chen witness her special spiritual power, his friend would never leak a word of it to the public.
"It’s getting late, so I’ll head back first. Tomorrow afternoon, as soon as the test at the Tower is finished, I’ll bring her over," Bai Ye said, glancing at the time on his terminal as he took his leave.
"Alright, see you tomorrow."
After Bai Ye left, Mo Chen looked once more at the examination results of Bai Ye’s spiritual landscape on the data terminal. He suddenly remembered the girl he had encountered in his dream previously. Her spiritual power had been incredibly unique—pure and robust. Unfortunately, she hadn’t wanted to come to him for a full check-up at all, and she probably wouldn’t let him study her spiritual power, either.
Thinking of this, Mo Chen’s eyes filled with regret. He sighed and murmured, "I just hope the guide coming tomorrow will have spiritual power as special as that girl in my dream..."
Sometime later, Bai Ye left the institute and directly boarded his hovercar.
The moment the car doors closed, his steady and imposing aura quietly slipped away. He leaned back slowly against the seat and closed his eyes. Yun Sheng’s side profile surfaced uncontrollably in his mind. The way she looked frying eggs in the kitchen, the way she took tiny sips from her glass of milk, the way the corners of her lips curled up slightly when she spoke to him... The images flashed by frame by frame, as vivid as if they had been etched directly into his brain.
Bai Ye suddenly opened his eyes. The tenderness in his gaze faded away, replaced by a thick, unresolvable melancholy mixed with an undeniable trace of longing.
He thought about how wonderful it would be if Yun Sheng could live with him. Once this thought sprouted, it wrapped tightly around his heart like growing vines, lingering and refusing to let go.
But a second later, reality ruthlessly dragged him back to the present. He knew full well that his previous thought was nothing more than a one-sided pipe dream!
Right now, Yun Sheng only had Si Jin in her heart. Even though Bai Ye took the initiative to approach her time and time again, the most she felt for him was a faint trace of fondness. Upon realizing his feelings, her only thought was to distance herself.
Bai Ye didn’t dare push her too hard for fear of it backfiring. Therefore, while refusing to give up, he could only suppress his deep-seated obsession. He would refrain from overly intruding on her life or adding to her troubles.
However, there was still one other matter right now that he needed to resolve thoroughly!
Bai Ye quickly opened his terminal and found a specific number. Without a shred of hesitation, he dialed it directly.
It only rang twice before it was connected.
"Admiral Su, do you have time to meet?" Bai Ye asked. "There’s a matter I’d like to discuss with you in person."
