Chapter 255: Waking from a Dream, Surrounded by 3 Men
Chapter 255: Chapter 255: Waking from a Dream, Surrounded by 3 Men
The cold dial tone droned in his ear—once, twice—until the call automatically disconnected. No one answered.
Bai Ye stared at the terminal screen, his brow furrowed slightly. His knuckles unconsciously brushed against the edge of the device as he muttered, ’Is that guy busy with his experiments again...’
That Mo Chen... once he was immersed in his experiments, he would forget everything around him.
He’d forget to eat and sleep, working nonstop. Forget a video call—even if you shouted his name right in front of him, he might not hear you.
Bai Ye let out a resigned sigh. He didn’t try calling again. Instead, he put away his terminal and walked over to the detection pod.
"Mo Chen isn’t picking up. It’s fine, though. Once we’re back on the Capital Star, I’ll go straight to the research institute to find him."
Si Jin just hummed in acknowledgment, his gaze never once leaving Yun Sheng’s face.
Just then, the instrument beside the detection pod suddenly let out a soft BEEP BEEP.
The once-stable green readings suddenly became erratic, the fluctuations growing wider and wider until they surpassed the normal range.
Yun Sheng’s spiritual power levels had begun to fluctuate violently without any warning.
Bai Ye’s expression changed. He immediately stepped forward and leaned over the monitor, staring at the jumping numbers on the screen.
His brow knitted as he tapped a finger lightly on the screen, double-checking the data.
Xing Che hurried over from the side. Looking at the chaotic readings, he asked in a slightly urgent tone, "What’s going on? Isn’t Shengsheng asleep? Why are her levels fluctuating so wildly!"
Bai Ye stared intently at the string of abnormal, jumping data, his expression growing increasingly grave.
"I’m not sure. Normally, spiritual power shouldn’t fluctuate in a deep sleep, unless..."
He trailed off, stopping mid-sentence.
He had a faint suspicion, but since he wasn’t certain, he didn’t voice it.
Si Jin’s expression was even darker than the other two. His gaze fell on Yun Sheng’s face, watching as her once-relaxed brow furrowed again. Even her lips pressed into a thin line, as if she were dreaming of something unsettling.
A terrible premonition suddenly took root in his heart. The feeling grew stronger and stronger, and the aura around him became increasingly oppressive.
He slowly raised a hand. His cool fingertips reached out cautiously, gently tracing her furrowed brow. He smoothed the crease between her eyebrows, his touch incredibly gentle.
"Yun Sheng, you didn’t... meet someone in your dream again, did you?"
Si Jin had spoken softly, but Bai Ye and Xing Che were both SSS-level Sentinels. With hearing far superior to that of ordinary people, his words reached their ears with perfect clarity.
Every word was like a pebble tossed into a calm lake, instantly stirring up a thousand waves.
Having seen Yun Sheng’s abnormal spiritual power readings, Bai Ye had already had his suspicions. So while his heart sank upon hearing Si Jin’s words, his reaction wasn’t particularly intense.
Xing Che, however, was another matter entirely. The moment Si Jin finished speaking, his face darkened, and the aura around him turned exceptionally sharp.
"Are you saying Shengsheng met another Sentinel in her dream?"
’The three of us are right here guarding her, so doesn’t that mean... another Sentinel, one we don’t know, has shown up?’
The more he thought about it, the more suffocated he felt. Jealousy and panic churned endlessly in his chest.
’He hadn’t even won Yun Sheng over yet, and not only was there Si Jin, her legitimate Sentinel, but also the eagerly watching Bai Ye. Now another potential rival had appeared. How could he not be frantic?’
Si Jin lifted his gaze, his cold eyes sweeping over them impassively. "I’m Yun Sheng’s Sentinel," he said, his tone flat. "I haven’t said anything, yet you two are the ones getting worked up."
The sharp aura around Xing Che subsided slightly, but his tone remained tense. "So what if you’re her Sentinel? Shengsheng’s spiritual power is fluctuating wildly right now; who knows what she’s encountering in her dream. You may not be anxious, but I am!"
Si Jin gently took Yun Sheng’s hand, his thumb stroking her fingers. "I trust that Yun Sheng can handle it."
Yun Sheng wasn’t some delicate flower who only knew how to rely on them. No matter who she met in her dreams, he believed she had the ability to handle it herself.
The words had barely left his lips when the urgent alarm from beside the detection pod began to die down.
The frantically jumping readings on the monitor slowly stabilized, gradually returning to the normal range.
Inside the detection pod, the tight line of Yun Sheng’s lips relaxed. Her expression softened considerably, and the aura around her grew more serene.
Si Jin held her hand, his grip loosening even further. His gaze was fixed on her face, quietly waiting for her to wake up.
Seeing this, Xing Che’s tense body slowly relaxed.
Although a hint of unease still lingered in his heart, he didn’t speak again, simply standing guard quietly on the other side of the detection pod with his gaze locked on Yun Sheng.
Bai Ye also breathed a sigh of relief, his brow smoothing out. He tapped the monitor screen a couple of times and, after confirming the readings were stable, stood quietly to the side as well.
An indeterminate amount of time passed before Yun Sheng’s long eyelashes trembled softly inside the detection pod.
Then, she slowly opened her eyes.
The moment she opened her eyes, she was completely dazed, her gaze filled with confusion.
Her eyes were unfocused, as if she hadn’t yet fully emerged from a chaotic dream.
A faint, lingering blush colored her cheeks. Her expression was soft and bewildered, her eyes still heavy with sleep.
All three men tensed almost simultaneously, their gazes locked on Yun Sheng. Though their reactions differed, they were all filled with the same concern.
Xing Che was the first to break the silence, his face fraught with tension. "Shengsheng, you’re finally awake! Are you okay? Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
Si Jin remained silent, the aura around him soft, lacking any of its usual coldness. Only the concern hidden deep in his eyes was clearly visible.
Bai Ye, on the other hand, remained off to the side. He didn’t step forward or speak, simply watching Yun Sheng in silence.
His normally placid eyes now held an unusually feverish light, his gaze glued to her as if trying to get a clearer look at her condition.
Yun Sheng’s unfocused gaze slowly shifted, and a familiar scent filled her senses.
The first thing she felt was the hand wrapped firmly around her own. Its warmth seeped through her skin and into her heart, dispelling the lingering panic and unease from the dream and filling her with a profound sense of security.
She let out a soft sigh and looked at the three men, her voice hoarse with sleep. "I’m fine. You don’t have to worry."
At her words, Xing Che’s heart, which had been lodged in his throat, finally settled.
"As long as you’re okay. You were unconscious for quite a while, and your spiritual power just stabilized. Don’t push yourself. Get some more rest."
As he was speaking, Si Jin suddenly leaned in.
One hand slid behind Yun Sheng’s neck to support her head while the other wrapped around her waist, and he gently lifted her out of the detection pod.
’He’d wanted to do this for a long time. But while Yun Sheng was unconscious and her spiritual power needed constant monitoring, he could only suppress the urge and wait quietly.’
Now that Yun Sheng was awake and her spiritual power had stabilized, there was no longer any reason to hesitate, so he simply lifted her into his arms.
Startled by the sudden movement, Yun Sheng subconsciously wrapped her arms around Si Jin’s neck, her cheek brushing against his shoulder in the process.
His warmth enveloped her, deepening the sense of security in her heart. With it, the last remnants of her weariness dissipated completely.
