Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me

Chapter 254: Entering the Dream: Her Spiritual Power Becomes Unusually Docile in His Hands

Chapter 254: Chapter 254: Entering the Dream: Her Spiritual Power Becomes Unusually Docile in His Hands

Yun Sheng’s legs felt weak, and she could only stand frozen in place. She let the tingling sensation spread through her limbs, leaving her feeling utterly limp.

But the man showed no impatience. His fingertips gently caressed her spiritual power, stroking it slowly.

Her spiritual power became impossibly docile. Gone was its previous restlessness and wildness. It now quietly wrapped itself around his wrist and fingertips.

It rubbed against him, soft and delicate, like a clingy kitten craving his touch—needy and affectionate.

His fingers would occasionally pause as if sensing the fluctuations in her spiritual power. The inquisitiveness in his eyes faded slightly, replaced by an imperceptible gentleness.

From behind his silver-rimmed glasses, his gaze would occasionally flit to Yun Sheng’s blurred silhouette. His breathing was still laced with a lingering heat, but he was no longer as tense as before.

Yun Sheng bit her lower lip, her teeth nearly leaving a red mark on the soft flesh. She desperately tried to retract her spiritual power, wanting to end this shared sensation that made her heart race and her face burn.

But her body refused to obey. Her overflowing spiritual power seemed completely ensnared by the man’s aura and gentleness. No matter how hard she tried to pull it back, it wouldn’t let go.

Not only that, but his soothing touch transmitted every last bit of that tantalizing feeling straight to her heart through their connection.

Under the man’s pacifying touch, Yun Sheng’s spiritual power grew ever more compliant, like a small beast whose fur had been smoothed.

He stared at her and suddenly said, "I was able to soothe it just like this. Are you sure you don’t want to come to me for a comprehensive examination? Your spiritual power is very unusual. I’ve studied the spiritual power of so many guides, but I’ve never encountered one like yours.

"How about this? Reconsider letting me study your spiritual power. You can name your terms. What do you say?"

As the man spoke, his own spiritual power fluctuated slightly.

When he had studied the spiritual power of other guides before, contact was unavoidable. But back then, his own spiritual power had always repelled and resisted theirs, showing not the slightest inclination to connect.

But hers was different.

From the moment her spiritual power wrapped around him, his own had stirred restlessly, eager to emerge. It was as if something had awakened it, and it desperately wanted to respond.

If he hadn’t been suppressing it with all his might, it probably would have entangled with hers long ago.

Because of this, his curiosity only grew more intense.

’He was determined to find out just what made her spiritual power so special!’

Seeing his dead-serious expression, Yun Sheng’s own embarrassment and awkwardness suddenly dissipated.

"You keep telling me to get a comprehensive examination from you and that you want to study my spiritual power. Who exactly are you?"

"My name is Mo Chen. I’m the Special Chief Researcher at the Central Star Domain High-level Biological Spirit Research Institute. My research focuses specifically on spiritual power." Mo Chen pushed up his glasses, his tone as earnest as if he were presenting an academic paper. "I’m being completely sincere. Will you consider it?"

Mo Chen...

Yun Sheng’s brows twitched. The name sounded somewhat familiar, but for the moment, she couldn’t recall where she had heard it before.

Although she had always been curious about her ability to enter dreams and perform special channeling, she couldn’t possibly follow Mo Chen’s suggestion and go to him for a comprehensive examination. She had to protect her secret.

But meeting his overly serious and sincere eyes, she hesitated for a few seconds before replying, "Okay, I’ll consider it."

Hearing this, Mo Chen’s eyes brightened slightly, and the corners of his lips curved into a faint smile.

The smile was subtle, like a crack forming on an iceberg, revealing a warm current underneath.

"Alright." He only said one word, but his voice was a few shades lighter than before.

Yun Sheng’s spiritual power gradually calmed down. It was no longer restless or provocative, like a small beast that had finally settled down after causing enough mischief.

Mo Chen, too, had the decency not to do anything more.

The surroundings fell completely silent, with only the gray mist flowing slowly at their feet.

The two stood facing each other, neither speaking a word. But the earlier ambiguity and awkwardness slowly dissipated like the mist.

Yun Sheng’s legs were getting sore from standing, so she plopped right down on the ground and looked up at Mo Chen.

"It should be broad daylight right now, shouldn’t it? How did you end up falling asleep too?"

Since she couldn’t leave this dreamscape anytime soon, she looked at Mo Chen, a flicker of curiosity ignited within her.

Mo Chen looked down at her, stunned for a couple of seconds, before surprisingly sitting down as well.

He pushed up his glasses and said in a flat tone, "I’ve been working on an experiment for spiritual landscape restoration recently, and I’ve pulled several all-nighters in a row. The experiment finally had a breakthrough today. After I finished organizing the report, I just meant to close my eyes for a moment. I didn’t expect to end up here."

Yun Sheng blinked.

’Pulling all-nighters... he really is a mad scientist!’

"Do you always work this hard on your experiments? Don’t you sleep?" she asked.

Mo Chen thought for a moment, then replied seriously, "I sleep. It’s just not at fixed times."

Yun Sheng’s mouth twitched. "What do you mean, not at fixed times?"

Mo Chen recalled for a moment, his tone still flat. "When the experimental data is running smoothly, I’ll sleep for an hour or two. When it’s not, I don’t sleep."

Yun Sheng fell silent. The look she gave him became more complicated.

’It’s a miracle this man is still alive.’

"Aren’t you tired?" she asked again.

"I am," Mo Chen nodded. "But when there’s a problem with the experiment and the data isn’t running smoothly, I can’t sleep."

Yun Sheng’s mouth twitched.

’Okay, he really is a mad scientist. Not sleeping for the sake of research is probably just standard procedure for him.’

Just as she was internally roasting him, Mo Chen suddenly took the initiative to ask, "What about you? What’s your situation? Did you fall into a coma because of a problem with your spiritual power?"

Yun Sheng’s heart skipped a beat.

’As expected of someone who specializes in this. He saw right through to her problem.’

She nodded. "I just wanted to test my current spiritual power Level. But as soon as I lay down in the testing pod, my spiritual power started dissipating uncontrollably, and then I passed out."

"Testing your spiritual power Level?" Mo Chen’s eyes glinted, a note of inquiry in his voice. "Your spiritual power is quite solid, but it seems a bit... mixed. Have you only recently awakened as a guide?"

Yun Sheng was taken aback. "You can tell that too?"

Mo Chen pushed up his glasses. "Mhm. But for your spiritual power to be this solid so soon after awakening means your talent is excellent. However, there’s too much mixed-in foreign spiritual power. If you don’t deal with it soon, it will cause major problems eventually."

Yun Sheng’s heart sank. She subconsciously leaned closer to him and asked urgently, "What should I do then? Do you have a solution?"

Mo Chen looked at her face, now closer to his. Although he still couldn’t make out her features, he could sense her desperation.

Just as he was about to answer, the surrounding gray mist suddenly began to churn violently, as if stirred by something.

Yun Sheng felt a powerful suction pulling at her. Her body started to turn transparent, and her consciousness began to fade.

’I’m waking up!’

Mo Chen noticed it too. He stared at her, his speech quickening.

"Seriously consider my proposal! I’ll be waiting for you at the research institute!"
