Helen looked at the open platform.
"I’ll go next," she said and began walking, but Alex gestured for her to stop.
"Brother Xianhai," he called out to the man who still stared at Ronron with an expression of awe.
Fang Xianhai turned around with a blank look. "Yes?"
"You should go next," Alex said.
"Huh? Oh. Ahem, that’s alright. You two should go before me," the man said.
Alex shook his head. "I highly suggest that you go on before us."
"No, that’s fine. You two should really go," the man said.
Alex shrugged in the end. "If you insist."
He gestured for his mother to continue and head over to the platform.
Helen arrived upon the platform and took a moment to understand what exactly she was doing. As soon as she understood, she began using her Daos.
The first ping took a moment, but the ones after that took no time at all.
Ping. Ping. Ping. Ping. Ping. Ping.
8 pings came in a row, followed by a brief pause before it continued. 3 more pings came, then another pause, followed by 2 more.
Alex wondered why his mother was pausing so much in between, but he realized that it was because she was switching from element to element. She had likely started with Fire first, since that was one of the better ones she had.
After that, Alex wasn’t sure how many other Daos she had. She clearly had 3 in one and 2 in another. There were another 4 pings, followed by 2 more pings. Finally, 2 pings came with a pause in between.
Helen was done with all of her Daos, 21 in total, before she paused for a moment and looked back. Then, she used a Dao she had nearly forgotten about.
Suddenly, the loudest noise they had heard from the artifact yet came, louder than the tong sound that had come from it when Ronron used her Greater Dao. This sound was closer to the sound of a gong being struck, with enough force that it pushed those standing close by.
Ronron and Liz had to take a step back from the force.
Alex frowned for a moment, wondering what had just happened. A thought came almost immediately, based on what he learned from Ronron’s turn, and it was validated by Fang Xianhai as he explained what it was that they had just heard.
"A TRUE DAO!" he shouted in disbelief.
He found it hard to believe that the simple-looking woman before him, whom he hadn’t even given a thought to until this very moment, had not only 21 different Daos, but had also managed to learn the entirety of the Daos within an element and obtained its True Dao.
If he had only been surprised by Ronron’s results, he was downright shocked by Helen’s.
As Helen walked out of the platform, many eyes followed her with clear signs of surprise in all of them. Alex walked up to Fang Xianhai and patted him on his back.
"So, you are going next, right?" he asked.
Fang Xianhai slowly turned toward Alex, unable to find any words to say.
"You say I will be overshadowed, but I don’t think you believe that to be true," Alex added. "And if you still think there is a chance that can happen, I’m happy to tell you that what she just showed you is merely half of what I’m capable of. If you still think you stand a chance, I’m happy to go ahead, but I really suggest that you go next."
Fang Xianhai didn’t even bother considering the proposition. He simply accepted it as what was best for him and walked over to the platform with listless eyes.
Everyone watched him with rapt attention, as he was known as one of the most talented juniors of the younger generation.
Since Fang Xianhai was known for learning many Daos, Alex was curious to learn just how many of them he actually knew.
Alex was pleasantly surprised to learn that his fame wasn’t an exaggeration at all. The young man deserved every bit of what the rumors made it sound like he deserved.
The pings came one after another at a gradual pace, increasing bit by bit. No one could tell what Dao was being used, so they could only watch with curiosity, but Alex did hear something about the young man having talent in Earth and Wood Daos.
The number of pings easily crossed 10 within the first minute, which no one was surprised by. It then crossed 15, before slowing slightly, growing with one ping after another until there were 19 pings in total.
That wasn’t bad.
It wasn’t as good as Helen, but 19 pings wasn’t bad in the slightest.
Just when Alex thought that, a massive gong sound came from the artifact, the shockwave forcefully slamming into him. He stood his ground but held a curious expression on his face. He had expected the young man to be talented, but a True Dao was beyond his expectations.
Alex held a rare smile on his face as he realized that the young man hadn’t given him empty boasts. He truly was very talented, having made the artifact sound 20 times in total.
It was one less than Helen, but at that point, it was difficult to tell who was more talented than who by just the number.
If not for Alex understanding just how much younger his mother was compared to this young man, he might have even considered their talents to be equal. But to everyone who knew about her, it was clear that was not the truth at all.
The young man finally walked out of the platform, having regained his confidence from before. Despite not having the highest number of Daos, his expression had long since returned to normal.
Still, he said nothing and walked over to the side, ignoring the call of a certain door, as he chose to watch Alex’s turn instead.
With everyone watching, Alex walked up onto the platform.
