Chapter 3632: Two Supreme Roots
Alex was a little disheartened that his first attempt at cultivating with two Supreme Roots would be between a regular and higher element. If there was another root that wasn’t Yin or Yang that was a Supreme root, then it would have been fantastic for the test.
Sadly, he had to work with what he had.
The first test was between his Metal and Yang roots.
As Alex understood the combination between those two elements, Yang energy partially empowered the Metal root. At the same time, since Yang was a higher element, Metal could not affect it in the slightest.
As such, he held certain expectations toward it, which he hoped would be what resulted after the tests were complete.
He started the tests without any further ado and cultivated for the next month, focusing first on the Metal root. When the cultivation came to a close, his eyes widened slightly as he noticed the speed of his cultivation.
The score was rather high as he had expected, but he hadn’t expected it to cross the 1600 threshold with just this one test. This was the first test besides the control to reach such a high number, to a point where it was now only 150 points away from the baseline.
Alex couldn’t help but scratch his head in confusion. Did this mean that he was wrong about him needing to have all 7 spirit roots to have a strong unity? Could a proper combination of spirit roots such as Supreme Yang and Supreme Fire, or Supreme Yin and Supreme Water, where one cultivated using those specific elements, be enough?
"Are the rest not needed?"
For a second, Alex wondered if he had come to the conclusion he had to come to. But he quickly shook his head as it made no sense for that to be true. If the only combination that worked best in such a situation were those specific Supreme roots, then why did his baseline have the highest score?
No, there was definitely more for him to learn here, so he could only continue.
Alex did the other test by cultivating only with Yang energy and found little to no difference in his cultivation speed. Whatever difference there was from when he cultivated with his Yang root alone was purely coincidental.
He thought of testing the roots through his neutral roots, but he found no reason to do so. If by this point he couldn’t trust his own understanding of how things worked, then all the tests would’ve been pointless.
There was no difference in how the elements acted, so Alex had the answer he needed for when those two roots weren’t Supreme.
The next test, however, was one he was most excited about.
Finally, he got the opportunity to test his Yang and Yin roots at the same time. And considering that the Yin root wasn’t affected by his body this time around, he more than looked forward to how that changed things.
To start with, Alex tested his cultivation speed with just his Yang root. Immediately, he saw a difference that was made when two opposing roots worked at the same time.
The speed of Alex’s cultivation dropped by nearly half when he cultivated with just Yang energy, as the Yin root seemingly actively fought against it.
Then, he cultivated next with only his Yin root and saw similar, perhaps even worse results. But that difference was due to his body, so he pushed the difference aside.
"So even Supreme roots are affected by each other, huh?" Alex thought, slowly coming to that understanding. That made sense though, considering how Pearl’s speed had lowered once his Wood root reached the Supreme rank.
"Supreme Roots are mostly incorrigible, unless the one affecting it is another Supreme root," Alex thought, seemingly stumbling upon another truth.
With that knowledge, he wanted to move past the dual spirit root tests and into the triple root, but just as he was thinking of starting that, he realized that he hadn’t actually finished testing it all.
He had tested the Yin and the Yang roots individually, but what would happen should he do it together?
A part of him told him that was useless. Yang and Yin energy would become neutral energy, at which point, just what was the point? Still, he had tested everything, so he might as well do it. Besides, he needed that information in the later tests anyway, so it was better to test it right away.
As Alex felt the energy in his room become elementally inert, he worried he might have ruined some good treasures. Still, the resulting energy was still a combination of Yin and Yang energy, so it should be acceptable by his two roots.
He started his cultivation session and immediately became disappointed at just how weak his cultivation speed was. The speed was barely beyond pathetic, no different from when he tried to cultivate with his Water root using no water treasures at all. Alex believed the two Supreme Roots were affecting each other so negatively that neither of them actually did their job in the first place.
However, just a week later, as though their moods suddenly swung, they no longer affected each other in the slightest, and Alex’s cultivation speed shot up so much that he nearly thought he might have eaten some pill at some point unknowingly.
Then, the speed crashed back down to crawling speed as the two roots found each other again and started fighting.
Like a pendulum, Alex’s cultivation speed changed from one direction to the other, constantly swinging between being slow as a turtle or fast as a leopard. It never stayed constant at all.
When he was finally done, he immediately looked for the scores he had managed to gain. When he did, he could only let out a dry laugh.
At the lowest, the two opposing Supreme Roots had managed to gain only a score of 115. Even his Neutral root had scored 140 at the lowest, so this truly was pathetic.
But Alex understood there was more to it, so he looked toward the next score.
