Chapter 738 - 361: Let’s Not Go Home Until We’re Drunk
Chapter 738: Chapter 361: Let’s Not Go Home Until We’re Drunk
"Captain, if there’s something you need to say, just say it!"
Sun Yang was the first to speak.
"Stop beating around the bush. I want to get to bed early!"
"Settle down."
Li Chang’an set his Saw Chain Sword aside and glanced at the others.
"The base’s mission list has been updated. We’ll be going on a mission soon!"
"Really?"
Han Ruoxi sat up straight.
"What kind of mission? Is it difficult?"
"The specific details haven’t come down yet, but the regiment’s orders are to prepare for remote support and Insect Race reconnaissance."
Li Chang’an’s tone was calm.
"Our squad will be responsible for the first round of reconnaissance!"
"The Insect Race again!"
Sun Yang sighed.
"We deal with these monsters every day. Can’t we get something new for a change? Like fighting the Rebel Army or some Alien Martial Artists?"
"You don’t get to pick the missions."
Shen Qiuyue shot him a cold glance.
"Just do your job and stop thinking about useless things."
"I was just saying!"
Sun Yang spread his hands.
"But speaking of which, if this mission is easy, do you think we can snag some extra rewards on the side?"
"Stop thinking about useless things."
Li Chang’an looked at him.
"Completing the mission is what’s key. Whether or not we get a reward is secondary."
"Got it, got it!"
Sun Yang nodded, but his expression was still nonchalant.
"Han Ruoxi, you’re with me at the training grounds tomorrow. We’re going to drill remote support tactics until you have them down cold."
Li Chang’an turned to look at her.
"Sun Yang and Shen Qiuyue, you’re responsible for working with Bai Lin on the reconnaissance route simulations. No slacking off!"
"Got it!"
Han Ruoxi nodded in agreement.
"Don’t worry, Captain. I will complete the mission."
Shen Qiuyue’s reply was as crisp as ever.
"Alright, alright, I’ll listen to you."
Sun Yang waved his hand dismissively.
"But seriously, Brother Chang’an, can’t you relax a little sometimes? We’re not machines. We need time to breathe!"
"There’s no time to breathe when you’re on a mission."
Li Chang’an stood up, putting an abrupt end to the conversation.
"Dismissed. Get some rest. We have work to do tomorrow."
The group left the lounge one by one and returned to their rooms.
Li Chang’an was the last to leave. As he turned off the light, his gaze swept the room one last time to make sure everything was in order before locking the door and heading to his own room.
The next morning, Li Chang’an was already up before the base’s alarm had even sounded.
He put on his gear, secured the Saw Chain Sword to his waist, tidied his bunk out of habit, and then left his room.
His movements were light, as if he were afraid of waking the others who were still asleep.
He went to the training grounds first. He glanced around; the place was empty at this hour. The crisp morning air was invigorating.
He loosened his shoulders, drew his Saw Chain Sword, and immediately began his basic sword-swinging drills.
Every swing was fast, precise, and ruthless, with not a single wasted motion.
"Captain, what are you doing up so early?"
Han Ruoxi’s voice suddenly came from behind him. She was dressed in a light combat uniform, leaning against the doorframe with her arms crossed, a hint of sleepiness still on her face.
"Morning is the best time to train."
Li Chang’an glanced back at her.
"Since you’re up, you might as well train with me. Don’t want you getting rusty."
"You’re really a handful!"
Han Ruoxi sighed, but walked over anyway.
"Fine, fine, I’ll train with you. What choice do I have? I’m on your team!"
"Get a move on."
Li Chang’an had already taken his stance again.
Han Ruoxi dropped her arms. A faint arc of electricity crackled in her hand as she began some simple remote energy release exercises.
As she practiced, she watched Li Chang’an and couldn’t help but ask.
"Don’t you ever get tired? You were at it all day yesterday, and here you are again first thing in the morning!"
"I’m used to it."
Li Chang’an swung his sword, his voice flat.
"Besides, a mission could come at any time. It doesn’t hurt to train more while we have the chance."
"That’s true."
Han Ruoxi nodded.
"But don’t push yourself too hard. If you actually work yourself to exhaustion, none of us can take your place as Captain."
Li Chang’an didn’t respond, simply continuing his training.
Han Ruoxi trained beside him for a while before she couldn’t help but stop and watch him.
"Seriously, Captain, do you have any hobbies outside of training and missions? Like playing games, listening to music, or something?"
"No."
Li Chang’an replied without turning his head.
"Not interested."
"So boring."
Han Ruoxi shook her head.
"Your life is so monotonous. If I had to live like you, I’d probably go crazy in two days."
"Then don’t be like me."
Li Chang’an finally stopped his movements and looked up at her.
"Just keep your own pace. Don’t force it."
"Like I need you to tell me that!"
Han Ruoxi pouted.
"But really, I do admire you. I could never be that focused."
"There’s nothing to admire."
Li Chang’an sheathed his Saw Chain Sword.
"Let’s go get breakfast. The training grounds will be starting rotations soon."
"Alright! Finally, something a normal person would say!"
Han Ruoxi let out a sigh of relief.
"If I’d known you were going to be this decisive, I wouldn’t have come.
Let’s go, let’s go, I’m starving!"
The two of them left the training grounds and ran into Sun Yang, who had just woken up.
He was rubbing his eyes and yawning as he asked.
"Brother Chang’an, Han Ruoxi, what are you two up to? What’s all the commotion so early in the morning?"
"Training."
Li Chang’an replied simply.
"You guys are nuts!"
Sun Yang shook his head.
"Training this early is killer.
I’m going to get breakfast first and think about how I’m going to slack off today."
"Aren’t you afraid of getting fat?"
Han Ruoxi teased him with a smile.
"Didn’t you say yesterday you were going to cut back on the barbecue?"
"Saying is one thing, doing is another."
Sun Yang shrugged.
"You’ve got to have a little fun in life!"
"Whatever."
Li Chang’an ignored him and walked straight toward the cafeteria.
When they got to the cafeteria, Shen Qiuyue was already sitting in a corner.
A cup of coffee and a simple breakfast were set out in front of her. Seeing them enter, she gave a slight nod.
"You’re all moving fast. Assembled this early?"
"Assembled? Hardly!"
Han Ruoxi pouted.
"Our dear Captain dragged me out to train first thing in the morning. I’m dead tired!"
"Your stamina is too low."
Shen Qiuyue said flatly.
"You’d better improve it, or you’ll drag us down when a real mission comes."
"Okay, okay, you’re the best!"
Han Ruoxi sat down in defeat.
"Let’s just eat. I really don’t want to bicker with you."
"Where’s Bai Lin?"
Li Chang’an scanned the room but didn’t see the last member of their squad.
"He probably pulled an all-nighter. I doubt he’s up yet."
Shen Qiuyue glanced up.
"You know how he is, being the tech guy. This happens a lot."
"Alright. We’ll wake him up later."
Li Chang’an nodded.
"After breakfast, we’ll stick to yesterday’s plan. Go over the reconnaissance and tactics first."
"Recon again?"
Sun Yang picked up a piece of bread.
"The mission isn’t even here yet, and we’re already training ourselves to death!"
"If you don’t want to train, you can request to leave the squad."
Shen Qiuyue put down her coffee cup, her voice cold.
"Hey now, I was just talking!"
Sun Yang quickly waved his hands.
"We have to train, of course we do. Otherwise, when a real mission comes, I’ll be counting on you guys to save my skin!"
Li Chang’an said no more. After they finished eating, everyone went their separate ways.
Han Ruoxi and Li Chang’an went to the training grounds, while Shen Qiuyue and Sun Yang went to find Bai Lin to prepare the reconnaissance simulation.
When Han Ruoxi followed Li Chang’an to the training grounds, there were already quite a few people there.
Members of other squads had also begun their daily training, each team busy with their own affairs.
Li Chang’an scanned the area, found an empty spot, and walked over.
"Let’s train here."
Li Chang’an pointed to an open space and looked back at Han Ruoxi.
"How’s your feel for it? I noticed your movements were a little slow during training yesterday."
"That’s because I was exhausted yesterday!"
Han Ruoxi frowned.
"It’ll definitely be different today. You just wait and see!"
"Fine. Then stop talking."
Li Chang’an placed his Saw Chain Sword on the ground.
