Chapter 737 - 361: We’re Not Going Home Sober
Chapter 737: Chapter 361: We’re Not Going Home Sober
A burly man smiled and waved.
"Don’t be shy. The kebabs here are something else. Come give ’em a try!"
"Alright, I’ll take a look."
Li Chang’an nodded and sat down with his team members.
"Boss! Let’s start with twenty lamb skewers, add ten chicken wings, and five naans!"
Sun Yang shouted out the order.
"And a bottle of cold beer. We’re not going home until we’re drunk tonight!"
"Hey, don’t just order whatever!"
Han Ruoxi frowned.
"We’re not allowed to drink!"
"What’s there to be afraid of? It’s not like we’re on an official mission!"
Sun Yang said, waving his hand dismissively.
"Besides, we’ll just have a little bit. Whoever gets drunk pays the bill. Fair enough?"
"Fair my ass!"
Shen Qiuyue rolled her eyes.
"If you actually got drunk, you’d definitely try to get out of it!"
"Me? Get out of it?"
Sun Yang looked completely innocent.
"Sister Qiuyue, you’re framing an innocent man!"
"Enough arguing!"
Li Chang’an gently tapped the table.
"Quiet down while we’re eating. We don’t want the next table thinking our Insect Hunter Squad is here to cause a scene!"
The group quieted down a bit. The barbecue was served quickly, its fragrant aroma filling the air.
Sun Yang was the first to grab a skewer and start gnawing on it, mumbling incessantly.
"Now this is the life! Training is just too damn hard!"
Han Ruoxi took a bite of a chicken wing and nodded.
"Not bad. Much better than nutrient blocks!"
Shen Qiuyue ate elegantly with small, delicate movements, but her eyes were constantly scanning her surroundings.
She asked Li Chang’an in a low voice.
"Do you think we’ll get a mission soon? I feel like just training like this is getting a little boring!"
"It should be soon."
Li Chang’an picked up a lamb skewer and answered as he ate.
"The commander is probably arranging it. There’s no way he’d let us stay idle for long!"
"But let’s not be in too much of a hurry!"
Sun Yang chimed in.
"This is a pretty good life. We get to eat, drink, and train. If we really go on a mission, who knows what kind of monsters we’ll have to face!"
"That uncertainty is exactly why we have to be prepared!"
Li Chang’an glanced at him.
"You’d better not think of today’s barbecue as a permanent luxury. Once a mission comes, you might not even get a hot meal!"
"Hey, Brother Chang’an, that’s such a downer!"
Sun Yang sighed.
"Making people tense even during a meal... I give up on you!"
"Just give it a rest!"
Han Ruoxi shot him a glare.
"The Captain is right. When a real mission comes, it won’t be as comfortable as this!"
"Alright, alright, I’ll shut up!"
Sun Yang waved his hands.
"Come on, come on, let’s keep eating. No more talk like this, let’s talk about something happy!"
The atmosphere at the barbecue stall gradually grew lively. The group ate and chatted, relaxing considerably without even realizing it.
When they finished eating and it was time to pay, Sun Yang, true to his word, actually paid the bill, though he was still muttering that his "heart was bleeding."
"Alright, stop pretending!"
Shen Qiuyue walked ahead, her tone tinged with a bit of mockery.
"You were the one enjoying it the most just now, and now you’re crying poor again!"
"I’m just telling the truth!"
Sun Yang sighed.
"Next time it’s your treat, I’ll just be a vegetarian!"
"Vegetarian my foot!"
Han Ruoxi laughed and gave him a shove.
"Let’s go, let’s go. We need to hurry back, or the duty instructor will chew us out again!"
By the time they returned to the base, it was nearly evening.
The afterglow of the setting sun spilled across the base’s walls, casting long shadows.
The group entered the dormitory area. The moment they pushed open the door, Han Ruoxi plopped down onto the sofa.
"I’m dead tired! This whole day has worn me out so much I don’t even want to move!"
She hugged a cushion and threw herself back.
"Nobody talk to me. I just want to rest for a bit!"
"You’re tired?"
Sun Yang laughed as he took off his jacket.
"Who ran the most in the squad today? Me, right? Who screamed the most pitifully? Also me, right? And now you’re telling me you’re tired? What am I supposed to say to that?"
"You can shut up!"
Han Ruoxi didn’t bother to open her eyes.
"That mouth of yours is louder than the training!"
Shen Qiuyue stood nearby, hanging her jacket on the coat rack by the door, and gave the two a detached look.
"Can you two quiet down for a second? We’ve only been back a few minutes, and I can’t get any peace and quiet!"
"I want some peace and quiet too!"
Sun Yang threw up his hands.
"But some people in our squad are unreasonable and are always picking on me. How am I supposed to stay quiet?"
"Don’t drag me into this!"
Han Ruoxi rolled over.
"Whoever wants to deal with you can deal with you. In any case, I’m not playing along!"
"Alright, both of you, shut up!"
Li Chang’an casually placed his Saw Chain Sword on a nearby table, his tone calm.
"I have things to go over tonight. Everyone go wash up first. We’ll meet in the lounge in twenty minutes!"
"Another meeting?"
Sun Yang’s brow furrowed.
"Brother Chang’an, can’t you just let us relax for one night? Doing this stuff every day... this is way too stressful!"
"If you really want to relax, you can apply for a transfer to logistics!"
Li Chang’an shot him a look.
"Don’t disrupt everyone here!"
"Got it, I’ll shut up!"
Sun Yang immediately stood up and headed for the bathroom.
"I’m going to take a shower. I’ll listen to you when I’m done!"
Shen Qiuyue said nothing and turned to enter her room.
Han Ruoxi was still lounging on the sofa, unwilling to move, but after Li Chang’an glanced at her, she reluctantly stood up.
"I know, I’m going to wash my face, alright?"
Li Chang’an nodded. Only after watching them disperse did he slowly sit down on the sofa.
He picked up the Saw Chain Sword from the table and lowered his head to inspect it.
’That was just a simulated training exercise, but I can’t shake the feeling that this recent peace is unusual.’
Before long, the team members returned one by one and gathered in the lounge.
Han Ruoxi sat on the sofa hugging a cushion, Sun Yang sat off to the side with his legs crossed, while Shen Qiuyue sat ramrod straight, holding an electronic notepad as if ready to take notes.
