Chapter 540: Blackish Red Mist
Chapter 540: Blackish Red Mist
After the assistant left, Sun Xiurong came back to her chamber where Lin Feng was still engrossed in his pill refinement. She moved silently with the intent of not disturbing him, but..
"Senior sister, you don’t have to be so careful.."
Lin Feng spoke with a smile, refining these pills didn’t take up much of his attention, so there was no need for her to stay on guard this much.
Sun Xiurong was slightly speechless, she knew that it really was very easy for him to concoct such pills, but it seemed she still underestimated his ability. She shook her head and began writing down the recent incidents that had happened in the mine..
She also decided to pay a brief visit to the collapsed section of the mine to ensure that it really was harmless and wouldn’t affect the safety of the groups mining near it.
She put the scroll away and waited for him to finish his pill concoction because it didn’t seem he would be taking much longer, so it was better to just go together.
Lin Feng continued his refinement for another hour before finally refining the last batch and putting it in the storage bag meant for his mission.
He stood up and stretched slightly, although it didn’t seem like he had done anything tiring, the constant use of his Yang Flames in short bursts to refine the spirit herbs quickly had stressed his body to some extent.
"That was unbelievable, junior brother..." Sun Xiurong sighed ruefully before standing up," Shall we enter the spirit mine then?"
"You are coming too?" Lin Feng raised his eyes slightly.
"Yes, I have to check a collapsed section of the mine.."
"I see, then let’s go.."
....
Soon, Lin Feng and Sun Xiurong stood at the edge of the spirit mine, gazing down at the pit. It was deep, but not deep enough to obscure their vision.
"Do you feel anything now, junior brother?"
Lin Feng, who was staring into the pit with a slight frown, shook his head.
"Nothing.."
Sun Xiurong’s expression changed slightly.
"Junior Brother, standing here is enough for even an Early Initiation Realm cultivator to sense a faint trace of its influence. For you to feel nothing at all is rather strange.."
Lin Feng frowned for the same reason.
He could clearly sense that something was surrounding him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have felt that faint ominous sensation from the moment he arrived.
Since ordinary perception couldn’t reveal the source, he decided to use his Chaotic Eyes.
Soon, the color of his irises changed, turning blue with a faint purple hue that gave his eyes a mysterious appearance.
Sun Xiurong’s attention was immediately drawn to them. She stared at his eyes with undisguised curiosity, momentarily forgetting about the spirit mine itself.
Lin Feng’s Chaotic Eyes pierced through the invisible veil with ease.
What he saw astonished him.
A blackish-red mist was constantly seeping out from within the spirit mine, spreading toward the surrounding area. It was extremely faint and looked completely harmless.
But when the mist approached him, something strange happened.
It avoided him completely.
Not even a strand of it came near him, much less touched his body.
Lin Feng shifted his gaze toward Sun Xiurong.
And as expected, the blackish-red mist was surrounding her completely, silently seeping into her body and affecting her soul.
"Interesting.."
A trace of understanding appeared in his eyes.
Now he finally understood why he hadn’t felt the slightest impact on his soul. This blackish-red mist was completely trying to avoid him for some reason.
"Are you able to perceive it, junior brother?"
Sun Xiurong had already guessed that he had seen something. It was obvious from seeing the change in his expression.
Lin Feng’s eyes gradually returned to normal as he nodded.
"Yes, I can perceive it clearly. Senior sister, come a little closer. There is something I want to show you.."
Sun Xiurong didn’t respond immediately.
The two were already standing only a hand’s breadth apart. Moving any closer would bring them almost shoulder to shoulder, and doing so in such an open place made her feel slightly embarrassed.
Lin Feng noticed her hesitation.
Rather than saying anything, he simply took a step forward, closing the remaining distance between them.
Sun Xiurong flinched slightly, but her expression remained composed, a slight, unnoticeable blush crept across her cheeks as their shoulders touched.
She didn’t retreat, however.
After all, she wasn’t truly averse to him approaching her this closely. That boundary had faded away the moment she had begun trusting him unconditionally.
As these thoughts passed through her mind, she suddenly felt something strange.
The stoic expression on her face began to change visibly, and her eyes widened in disbelief.
"H-How?"
Lin Feng smiled faintly.
"Now you understand why I don’t feel anything?"
Sun Xiurong was utterly astonished.
At this moment, her soul was no longer being affected at all.
This was an impossible occurrence.
Given her current cultivation realm, the influence of the aura should have been several times stronger on her than on an Early Initiation Realm cultivator. Yet now, she couldn’t even feel the slightest trace of its influence.
For a moment, she almost began to doubt whether what she was experiencing was real, after all, that strange aura was something that couldn’t be resisted through ordinary means. Otherwise, why would even the Head Elders, and even the Supreme Elder, be helpless against it?
"Junior Brother, what exactly did you do?"
Lin Feng shook his head.
"Senior sister, I’ll tell you later. Even I am not certain about it for the time being. Let’s go inside first, shall we?"
He truly wasn’t certain.
However, he could already think of few possible reasons.
Among them, the one he believed was most likely related to the Eternal Dao Lotus.
Sun Xiurong nodded in understanding before taking a slight step away from him.
"Alright.."
She flew downward into the depths of the mine, and Lin Feng followed closely behind.
"Senior sister, how about you hold my hand? I have a feeling that even in that case, you won’t be affected.."
Sun Xiurong glanced at him before shaking her head.
"No need, junior brother. Although I am still affected, I can remain in the deepest section of the mine for several hours without suffering any true harm to my soul, so it isn’t much of a concern.."
