Chapter 1284: Chapter 1284:- Anti Emperor Faction Discussion [II]
"Tomorrow’s battle will most likely be decided by which side has the most Seventh Order cultivators still standing at the end." Several commanders became thoughtful after hearing his words.
"Think about it. Let’s say our army manages to defeat most of Ren’s ordinary soldiers. However, during that same battle, all of our Seventh Order cultivators are defeated."
"What do you think will happen then?" Hearing this, nobody immediately answered. Becuase it was already obvious
"Even if we still have hundreds of thousands of soldiers left, those soldiers won’t be able to do much against several powerful Seventh Order cultivators." After all, the difference between ordinary soldiers and Seventh Order cultivators was enormous. A powerful Seventh Order cultivator could easily kill thousands of ordinary soldiers within a short time.
And if several such cultivators worked together, they could cause terrible destruction across an entire battlefield. Even an army of hundreds of thousands would have difficulty stopping them.
"Simply put, if Ren’s Seventh Order cultivators manage to defeat all of ours, they can then turn their attention toward our remaining army." Boris explained.
"At that point, our advantage in numbers won’t matter much. Even if we still have five hundred thousand or six hundred thousand soldiers remaining, what can they do if several enemy Seventh Order cultivators begin attacking them without anyone powerful enough to stop them?"
The commanders remained silent. They understood exactly what Boris meant. Ordinary soldiers might be able to fight against other ordinary soldiers, but asking them to fight against powerful Seventh Order cultivators was an entirely different matter. Even if they attacked together, their chances of defeating such powerful enemies would be extremely small.
"And the same thing applies to Ren’s side. If our Seventh Order cultivators manage to defeat all of his powerful cultivators, then the remaining soldiers of the Emperor Faction will have almost no chance of winning."
"Even if Ren still has a large number of ordinary soldiers left, those soldiers won’t be able to stop our Seventh Order cultivators."
Because of this, Boris believed that the battles between the Seventh Order cultivators would be even more important than the fighting between the ordinary armies.
However, there was another important factor that could completely change the outcome of the war. "And there’s one more thing."
Everyone looked toward him. "The supreme commanders."
"If either side loses its supreme commander, the morale of its army will suffer an enormous blow."
After all, the supreme commander was the person responsible for leading the entire army. The soldiers depended on that person for orders, direction, and confidence. As long as their supreme commander remained alive, many soldiers would continue believing that victory was still possible.
However, if their supreme commander was suddenly killed, the situation could change immediately.
"Let’s say Aditya is killed during tomorrow’s battle." The atmosphere inside the tent immediately became uncomfortable. Several people frowned upon hearing those words. Although everyone understood that Boris was only giving an example, nobody liked hearing someone speak about Aditya’s death.
However, Boris continued without changing his expression. "Of course, I’m not saying that this will happen. I’m simply explaining what could happen if we lose our supreme commander."
"Even if I refuse to surrender, even if Malakor Harrington refuses to surrender, and even if Lou Han, Aditya’s other subordinates, and the women close to him continue fighting, that doesn’t mean our ordinary soldiers will do the same or everyone in this tent refuses to surrender."
"Many soldiers are fighting because they believe Aditya can lead them to victory. If they suddenly hear that he has been killed, their confidence could disappear. Some might continue fighting, but others could lose the will to fight. And if the situation becomes bad enough, some soldiers might even surrender immediately."
The commanders slowly nodded. They understood that Boris was correct. Although the powerful cultivators and people close to Aditya might be willing to fight until the very end, ordinary soldiers did not necessarily share the same determination.
Many of them had families waiting for them at home. If they believed that the war was already lost, they might decide that surrendering was better than dying on the battlefield.
"And once a large number of soldiers begin surrendering, the situation can quickly become worse. Other soldiers might see their comrades giving up and begin losing confidence as well. Before long, entire divisions could stop fighting."
This was one of the greatest dangers of losing a supreme commander during a war. Even if the army still possessed enough soldiers to continue fighting, losing the person leading them could cause their morale to collapse.
"Of course, the same situation applies to Ren. If Ren is killed during tomorrow’s battle, his soldiers will suffer the same problem."
After all, Ren was not only the supreme commander of the Emperor Faction but also the current Emperor of the Celestial Dragon Empire. His supporters were fighting to protect his position on the throne. If Ren died, the main reason many of them were fighting would disappear.
"Even if some of the National Treasures and Ren’s most loyal followers refuse to surrender, many ordinary soldiers will no longer see any reason to continue fighting. Some might attempt to escape, while others might immediately surrender to us."
Because of this, Boris believed that protecting their own supreme commander while trying to defeat the enemy’s supreme commander would be extremely important during tomorrow’s battle.
After listening to Boris’s explanation, Malakor Harrington slowly nodded his head.
"I agree with everything you have said. In my opinion, tomorrow’s battle will actually be divided into two different battles taking place at the same time."
He raised one finger. "The first battle will be between the ordinary soldiers of both factions."
Malakor pointed toward the large open area between the two camps. "Our soldiers will fight against Ren’s remaining army. Since we have a massive advantage in numbers, we should be able to push them back as long as our commanders don’t make any serious mistakes."
He then raised a second finger. "However, the second battle will be completely different. The second battle will be between the Seventh Order cultivators of both factions."
He looked toward Lou Han and the other powerful cultivators sitting around the table. "While the ordinary soldiers are fighting below, the Seventh Order cultivators will be fighting against one another."
"And unlike the battle between ordinary soldiers, the outcome of these fights will depend on the strength, abilities, and experience of each individual. It doesn’t matter if our army has nine hundred thousand soldiers or if Ren’s army has only a fraction of that number. If his Seventh Order cultivators manage to defeat ours, the situation on the battlefield could completely change."
"On the other hand, if we manage to defeat his Seventh Order cultivators, then our victory will become almost certain." After all, once the enemy’s strongest cultivators were defeated, there would be very little left that could stop the Anti-Emperor Faction’s enormous army.
"That’s why I believe tomorrow’s battle will have two different sides to it. One will be the battle between the ordinary armies, where our advantage in numbers will play an important role."
"And the other will be the battle between the Seventh Order cultivators, where both sides will do everything possible to defeat each other’s strongest fighters."
Malakor then placed his hand on the map. "Although both battles will be taking place at the same time, the outcome of the second battle will most likely decide the final result of this war." Hearing this, everyone inside the tent became silent. The commanders understood that their responsibilities tomorrow would be extremely important.
However, unlike Boris, Malakor Harrington did not appear particularly worried about tomorrow’s battle. In fact, he felt that the old man was being a little too cautious. Although Malakor understood that they should never underestimate their enemies, he also believed that there was no reason for them to worry so much when they already possessed such a massive advantage.
"Boris, I think you’re worrying a little too much." Malakor Harrington said calmly while looking at the map spread across the table.
"We shouldn’t forget what happened today. During the first day of the war, we managed to kill four Seventh Order cultivators from Ren’s side. That’s already an enormous loss for him."
The other commanders nodded after hearing his words. After all, Seventh Order cultivators were not ordinary individuals who could be easily replaced. Even an Empire as powerful as the Celestial Dragon Empire could not afford to lose several such cultivators in a single day.
Among those who had died was Andris, one of the Thirteen National Treasures of the Celestial Dragon Empire. His death alone was already a major loss for the Emperor Faction.
And when the deaths of the other three Seventh Order cultivators were added, the damage suffered by Ren’s side became even more serious.
"According to the information we have gathered, Ren should have approximately three Seventh Order cultivators remaining on his side." Malakor continued.
"Of course, our information might not be completely accurate. Perhaps he has four remaining instead of three. However, even if that’s the case, I don’t think it changes our situation very much."
Malakor looked around the table before continuing. "Just look at how many Seventh Order cultivators we have gathered here. Including everyone, our side has close to six or seven Seventh Order cultivators."
This was one of the main reasons why Malakor felt so confident about tomorrow’s battle. Not only did the Anti-Emperor Faction possess an enormous advantage in the number of ordinary soldiers, but they also had more Seventh Order cultivators than the Emperor Faction, at least according to the information currently available.
