Chapter 2002 - 1940: My Princess Consort
Chapter 2002: Chapter 1940: My Princess Consort
Prince Jin’s Mansion was bustling with honored guests and vibrant festivities.
Due to Prince Jin’s current status, many sought to curry favor with him, with no path left untried.
Now that he was holding his grand wedding ceremony, it finally offered people a chance. Nearly the entire circle of Beiyan’s nobles and powerful people attended, and those who weren’t qualified to come still sent precious gifts to congratulate his wedding, all in hopes of becoming familiar faces in the eyes of the current Regent, Ah Jiu.
Emperor Yan had long ceased attending court, and Ah Jiu, appointed as Regent, was well aware that if the Emperor were to pass, with the Crown Prince still young, Ah Jiu would undoubtedly be the one to support the young ruler as Regent.
The Regent King, being also the Empress Dowager’s son, was almost on par with the Emperor in status. If they didn’t curry favor now, when would they?
So naturally, the main road in front of Prince Jin’s Mansion was bustling like a grand festival.
The imperial clan invited by Ah Jiu assisted the Ministry of Rites, separately hosting the male and female guests. With many hands, the work was orderly and efficient, without a hint of chaos.
As the auspicious hour approached, drums thundered, and with the Imperial City’s Bureau of Soldiers and Horses clearing the path, the onlookers saw the bridal escort return, pointing and smiling with joy.
The main gate of Prince Jin’s Mansion opened wide, with a brazier set at the entrance. The eight-carrier sedan chair halted as Ah Jiu held the Golden Arrow, nocked an arrow, and shot it toward the sedan chair’s door. Passing the bow to someone beside him, he stepped forward to open the sedan door and carried Wufu out.
Wufu wore a phoenix peony red bridal veil, with large pearls dangling from the edges, slightly swaying. She kept her head down, only seeing the beads swaying beneath the veil.
Ah Jiu held her hand, his voice reaching her ears: "Follow me."
Wufu’s red lips curled into a smile, she hummed in agreement, obediently placing her hand into his large hand, completely trusting.
Stepping over the brazier, their days would flourish with prosperity.
Ah Jiu led her, step by step, entering the grand gates, entering their home, entering his remaining life.
The main hall of the mansion.
Empress Dowager Mo was already seated on the Taishi Chair, wearing Auspicious Attire, with a smile on her lips, watching the entrance.
Inside the hall, quite a few officials and their wives awaited the ceremony, whispering softly.
"The newlyweds are here." Someone called out, and the crowd silenced, looking on.
The pair walked in from the soft light, seemingly covered by a faint golden glow.
Empress Dowager Mo instinctively straightened her posture, placing her hands on her lap, her smile growing more radiant.
The two were guided by the wedding matron to stand at the designated spot, listening to the officiant’s blessings, and only then did the ceremony begin.
Wufu felt somewhat complicated; the ceremony, she and Ah Jiu had already gone through before Madam Zhou’s passing. Back then, it wasn’t as lively or as festive as now, carrying a touch of sadness.
This grand wedding was truly the kind of ceremony a woman should have in her life, filled with joy and happiness.
Empress Dowager Mo felt similarly complex, watching the two bow to their elders, tears glimmered in her eyes; her Ah Jiu was getting married.
"Bowing to each other!" the officiant called out, as the two bowed to one another, "Ceremony completed, escort them to the bridal chamber."
At this moment, someone provoked, "Your Highness, lift the veil here and let us see the bride."
Ah Jiu smiled, looked at Empress Dowager Mo, and seeing her nod, he took hold of one corner of the veil and lifted it. Wufu slightly raised her head, her face equally suitable for coyness and joy, her expressive eyes slightly curved, filled with starlike glimmers of light.
"This is my Princess Consort!" Ah Jiu announced with a smile, holding her hand, facing the guests, his heart filled with joy and pride.
