Chapter 169 - 161: Why Hu Feng Is Angry
Chapter 169: Chapter 161: Why Hu Feng Is Angry
Before the Jin guard could say a word, Hu Feng shot her a glare and snapped, "What were you just doing? Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
Bai Zhi froze. ’Just now? What did I do? Throw a stone at the tiger?’
The Jin guard quickly tried to smooth things over. "Don’t be so harsh. Miss Bai was just worried about you. She only wanted to help, and she did. She’s the one who got us out of danger several times, isn’t that right?"
All Hu Feng knew was that if she had angered the tiger and it had pounced, he might not have been able to save her.
The thought of the danger, of how she had disregarded her own safety, filled him with rage.
"Couldn’t you learn a thing or two from that Meng fellow and just faint? You’re a young lady—how can you be so audacious?"
’What’s wrong with being audacious? Is it a crime?’
Bai Zhi was stunned by his lecture, completely unable to figure out what he was so angry about.
Hu Feng ignored her, borrowed a longsword from the Jin guard, and severed the main root of the Purple Silk Vine Leaves with a single slash.
After they finished collecting the Purple Silk Vine Leaves, Meng Nan finally woke up. His face was still as pale as paper, his eyes darting around frantically. Seeing that everyone was all right and the big tiger was gone, he finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Are... are you all okay?"
The Jin guard quickly unhooked the waterskin from his waist and offered it to Meng Nan with a smile. "We’re all fine. You, on the other hand, did you sleep well?"
Meng Nan looked embarrassed. He hadn’t slept well at all; he was even being chased by the tiger in his dreams. His legs still felt like jelly.
Hu Feng stacked the bundled Purple Silk Vine together. Without a single glance at Meng Nan, he said sullenly, "Since you’re awake, come over and carry a bundle. It’s time to head down the mountain."
Hu Feng seemed to be in a foul mood. Meng Nan whispered to the Jin guard, "What’s wrong with him?"
The Jin guard put a finger to his lips, shushing him and signaling not to ask just yet.
The two of them walked over to Hu Feng, and each shouldered a bundle of Purple Silk Vine.
There were four bundles in total, leaving two behind. Bai Zhi hurried over, and just as she reached out to grab one, Hu Feng snatched both remaining bundles, hoisted them onto his back, and turned to leave.
Bai Zhi hurried after him. "I’m strong enough. Let me take one."
Hu Feng stormed ahead, ignoring her as if he hadn’t heard a word she said.
"I really can carry it, let me take a bundle," she said, anxiously trying to block his path.
Hu Feng sidestepped her without a single glance.
"Hey! All I did was throw a couple of rocks at the tiger! Be angry if you want, I’m not going to argue with you. But you’re taking it too far. Is this nagging ever going to end?"
Hu Feng still ignored her.
Her own temper flared. She yelled at his retreating back, "I get it! You’re just afraid that if I got hurt by the tiger, there’d be no one left to treat your illness. Well, don’t you worry. Even if I’m down to my last breath, I will still cure you!"
Hu Feng finally stopped and spun around abruptly. Unable to stop in time, Bai Zhi crashed right into his chest, her nose stinging from the impact.
Hu Feng glared down at her, his eyes full of malice. He bit out each word through clenched teeth, "You had better remember what you just said."
He himself didn’t even know what he was so angry about. He just was. He was just furious. And hearing her say those words made the fire inside him rage even hotter.
His glare made Bai Zhi’s skin crawl. ’What on earth is wrong with this guy? Did he eat dynamite or something?’
The Jin guard hurried to mediate. "Alright, that’s enough from both of you. It’s nothing serious. Is there really a need to be at each other’s throats like this?"
Hu Feng let out a cold snort. Ignoring Bai Zhi completely, he turned and strode away. Even carrying two bundles of Purple Silk Vine, his steps were quick and his back was ramrod straight.
