Chapter 168: Chapter 160: Bravely Fighting the White striped Tiger
Bai Zhi was about to circle around the mound to take a look behind it.
Suddenly, Hu Feng grabbed Bai Zhi’s arm and pulled her behind him. He swiftly drew the dagger tucked at his waist and commanded in a low voice, "Movement. On guard."
The Jin guard’s expression changed. With a SWISH, he drew the longsword from his waist and shielded Meng Nan, not moving an inch from his side.
Meng Nan’s eyelids twitched uncontrollably, and his calves began to cramp up. He wasn’t normally a coward, but there was only one thing in this world he feared: tigers.
Just as Bai Zhi was about to ask Hu Feng what he had heard, a savage roar erupted from behind the mound, followed immediately by a massive shadow lunging toward them.
’Holy crap—that huge creature with black and white stripes and what looked like thick, black eyeliner at the corners of its eyes... wasn’t that a White-striped Tiger, just like the ones she’d seen at the zoo?’
’This one was way bigger than any she’d ever seen. It had a gaping maw, and its forepaws were tipped with claws as sharp as hooks. If it managed to bite or swipe you, what chance would you have of surviving?’
Behind her, Meng Nan was so scared he almost fainted. The Jin guard helped him retreat quickly, but Hu Feng, standing before her, didn’t back down an inch. He even raised his dagger and rushed forward a couple of steps to meet the beast’s attack head-on.
She stumbled back two steps in fright, but she was worried Hu Feng would be no match for the tiger. In a moment of desperation, she scooped up a few stones from the ground. Her eyes widened as she watched Hu Feng fight a life-or-death battle with the beast. Every time it looked like Hu Feng was in danger, she threw a stone at the tiger. While it didn’t cause any real harm, it was enough to momentarily distract the creature and buy Hu Feng some precious time.
This was the first time she had seen Hu Feng’s martial arts up close—the first time she had seen *real* martial arts.
There were none of the flashy, choreographed moves from historical dramas. Every punch Hu Feng threw was packed with his full Inner Strength. Each blow that connected with the tiger made it howl in pain, but this only enraged it, making its attacks even more ferocious.
The dagger sank deep into the tiger’s foreleg. The pain drove the beast into a complete frenzy. It lunged at Hu Feng in a rage, aiming to tear out his throat with its sharp teeth.
Bai Zhi panicked. It seemed the tiger had just snatched back the slight advantage Hu Feng had managed to gain.
She glanced back, looking for Meng Nan and the Jin guard. Meng Nan had already fainted, and the Jin guard was standing over him anxiously. She rushed over to them. "Go help Hu Feng!" she told the Jin guard. "I’ll look after your young master."
The Jin guard had been thinking the exact same thing. The tiger was incredibly ferocious. Hu Feng’s skills were excellent, perhaps even superior to his own, but unfortunately, he lacked a suitable weapon. Otherwise, the vicious beast never would have found an opening to counterattack.
If he joined the fight now, they could definitely turn the tide.
The Jin guard charged forward, sword in hand, instantly relieving the pressure on Hu Feng. With the two of them working together, they quickly regained the upper hand, driving the great tiger back again and again and landing several more blows.
The tiger was clearly exhausted. It knew that continuing the fight would only end badly for it. After letting out one last, vicious roar at the Jin guard and Hu Feng, it turned and fled.
The two men didn’t give chase. They didn’t dare. Who knew if the beast had companions? If they pursued it and ran into a few more, they’d be in serious trouble.
When Bai Zhi saw the tiger run off, she hurried over to the Jin guard and Hu Feng. "Are you two all right?"
