Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5197: Evenly Matched?

Chapter 5197: Evenly Matched?

Davis’s pupils dilated.

The name Solar Reverent Fist made him feel like he was going to be burned to death by the power of the Solar Reverence. If it were the Celestial Transcendent, he really didn’t doubt that the other party could use the power of the Solar Reverence for a moment.

His son Lucian was also a recipient of the Solar Reverence, but this aura felt different, more sacred, and full of sanctimony as though it was above all.

The Solar Reverent Fist descended like a collapsing star as a terrifying wave of solar flames shot at Davis.

Golden-white flame unraveled from the Celestial Transcendent’s knuckles, blooming outward in a corona that ate the darkness whole, and within that light was a heat that had nothing to do with fire. It had yang, the heat of judgment, the kind that scoured rot from the world simply by existing.

Every yin and vengeful thing would convulse and cease to exist.

Davis didn’t try to outrun it. There was nowhere to run; it completely cut off his escape route as it surged like a tsunami.

Alarm bells rang in his soul.

His Will surged instead, but instead of acting against the Celestial Transcendent, it poured into the scythe manifestation until the armament quivered. He pulled it against his chest, curling around its shaft, knees drawn up and head bowed, a position as helpless as a baby.

However, he wasn’t helpless but became the axis and let the scythe become the circumference, spinning himself into a vertical blur like a spinning blade about to rip apart what was in front of him.

The solar wave hit.

For a mere second, Davis felt as though the gold-white hot pressure was going to exterminate his spectral body to whatever crude substance might remain beneath his soul, but his Will remained firm in the face of this danger.

The scythe screamed as it cut through space, visibly parting the layers but also making the sea of gold-white flames part. He kept spiraling in focused fury, reaping the ability of the yang to defeat yin, barely making it an even match.

Quickly, Davis broke through the sea of solar waves and broke from the spin. He caught himself in midair, revealing his spectral body scorched at the shoulders, head, part of his hair, and his back. Black smoke sizzled from him as though he were an evil spirit at the verge of being eradicated.

Davis ignored the extreme pain as his pitch-black eyes quivered. He then forced his half-numb arm to whip to the side as he sent the scythe hurling at the Celestial Transcendent like a thrown axe meant to end the fight in a single stroke.

The Celestial Transcendent’s expression didn’t so much as flicker.

A single palm rose, radiant and unbothered, met the scythe’s deadly arc with a contemptuous swing of his hand.

*Bang!~*

It deflected the scythe, redirecting its path to the side, where it made a silent gash and ripped apart space.

Davis was already moving, throwing a chain sickle at the scythe as he captured it and pulled towards him, while the other end of the chain sickle shot towards the Celestial Transcendent. This chain sickle manifestation carried a pair of black-yellow sickles tied by black chains.

The Celestial Transcendent didn’t dodge or block. He reached out his hand, grabbing the sickle manifestation with his bare hand, causing the sickle’s curved blade to pierce through his arm, but it didn’t go far. With a vice grip, he pulled on Davis, causing him to involuntarily lunge forward.

Davis narrowed his pitch-black eyes as he wanted to close the distance, but it seemed like the Celestial Transcendent was fine fighting him with both ranges.

’Let’s battle it out then!’

With a swing of his other arm, he made the sickle wound around the scythe swing towards the Celestial Transcendent from the side. The force of the deadly curved blade and the black-yellow edge made the Celestial Transcendent unable to ignore it.

It had the ability to cause a fatal injury.

"Hmph!"

With a harrumph, he simply threw Davis to the other side by yanking on the chain sickle; both of them refused to let go. As a result, the scythe’s trajectory missed him, making an arc around him.

However, it served to land in Davis’s hand as they came together, after which he rushed at him.

*Clang!~*

Davis swung the scythe in a vertical arc and landed a crescent slash, but it was abruptly blocked by a chaos manifestation of a gauntlet.

The Celestial Transcendent grinned as though telling that he wasn’t the only one who could make powerful manifestations that could be sustained in a fight. He then deflected it in an attempt to throw, but Davis slipped like a eel and used the sickle to force deadly attacks while the scythe spun in the air and made deadly cuts through the aid of his soul force.

*Clang!~* *Clang!~* *Clang!~*

The two quickly engaged in a rapid exchange of flesh-carving and bone-crushing moves, intended to take their lives, whether it be beheading or being bisected into unsightly halves, crushed into a meat paste, or having the head exploded.

Davis’s expression sharpened even as he pressed forward, the sickle chain snapping taut to redirect one curved blade into a low sweep aimed at the Celestial Transcendent’s knee while the scythe followed high, a scissoring attack meant to leave no safe angle between them.

"Can’t use dimensional powers and energy from the Solar Reverence repeatedly, can you?"

The chaos gauntlet manifestation crashed down to intercept the scythe first, sparks of black-yellow and molten gold hissing where death energy met sanctified flame, and in the same breath, the Celestial Transcendent twisted his body aside, letting the sickle’s edge whistle past close enough to part a few threads of his robe.

"I bet it consumes a lot of energy to create these types of energies from nothing because of karma."

Davis scoffed as he wrenched the chain back, forcing the sickle to reverse its arc and drag through the space the Celestial Transcendent had just occupied, but he was already gone, reappearing half a step to the side with the unbothered ease of someone strolling rather than dodging a killing blow.

"Your avatar couldn’t last for long."

"I could say the same about you."

The Celestial Transcendent scoffed as he extended his hand from the side, shooting a straight jab from the gauntlet aimed at Davis’s solar plexus. Chaos energy coiled around the knuckles in a compressed storm.

Davis brought his scythe over to the front and caught that punch on the flat of the shaft, the impact numbing his arm to the elbow. Yet, with a slap from the back of his gauntlet, the Celestial Transcendent sent him flying sideways as he struck his shoulder, which was blocked by the curved blade of the scythe.

However, the Celestial Transcendent was also pulled along with him as the chains wrapped around his arm.

"Nonsense!" Davis let out a strange cacophony of ghostly laughter, "I’m still in top shape, and my scythe intent is only growing explosively due to our battle!"

"Nonsense." The Celestial Transcendent sneered, "Your reincarnation-attributed Will and the scythe intent have resulted in a strange combination that mimics the next Obscure Intent. That’s all."

The two of them met and then surged back into their rapid exchange without hesitation, scythe and sickle weaving together into a storm of crescent arcs and hooking pulls, each strike aimed to either bisect or bind, forcing the Celestial Transcendent to abandon leisure entirely and meet him blow for blow, gauntlet flashing to block, palm flashing to counter, robes and specter both trailing smoke as space itself groaned under the weight of their exchange.

*Clang!~* *Clang!~* *Clang!~*

Their exchange left the people who had yet to join the battle watching them with disbelief.

The Divine Emperor of Death was going toe to toe with the Supreme One? How was that possible!?

Moreover, apart from the gauntlets, the Celestial Transcendent’s body was full of cuts and nicks that weren’t healing but were continuously bleeding. The Divine Emperor of Death didn’t seem to fare well as his spectral body seemed to be continually dissipating, giving off black smoke.

However, this was the Supreme One, the ruler of their galaxy!

Didn’t the Divine Emperor of Death just enter the Empyrean Stage!? Even if he was relying on some kind of supreme treasure, how could he hope to fight a close-quarters battle where the body would break just from the impact?

How was this even possible!?
