Chapter 4444: Azbel’s Father
Chapter 4444: Azbel’s Father
"What were you doing, abandoning us?"
Azbel raised a fist, seemingly not caring if he was going to offend someone here.
King Savur’s tail slipped between them, stopping Azbel.
"Your father isn’t at fault. By now, you should’ve known that no other serpent other than the Nether Orb Cobra is allowed here. Otherwise, it is feared the power of the Divine Nether Totem will decrease, leading to a great tragedy."
"..."
Azbel shook, his expression faltering, "In that case, shouldn’t he just bring us somewhere near here and try to keep us safe?"
"That won’t work." King Savur hissed, "The Nether Devils will hunt you down easily. Why do you think everyone lives here and not elsewhere within the cave? The only safe place to live is near the totems where we can protect them. The totems are powerful, but their range is quite small in comparison. And it isn’t like the further away you are, the lesser power you receive, no. After a certain distance, you’ll completely lose the power of the Divine Nether Totem. In the end, you’d just be slaughtered or, even worse, coldly played with."
"..."
Azbel heard those words, but he couldn’t register it, understand it. He was filled with rage.
The only reason he got caught and imprisoned for hundreds and thousands of years, his poison being extracted from his body as though he was a resource, was all because his mother was killed by a group of humans from a wealthy and influential family, and he had taken revenge on them.
If his father were there- would he have gone through such torture? Would he have even lost his mother?
"You also have to understand that your father was a part of the Nether Devil army that descended on the living realm. He was captured and forced to do their bidding, so at that time, he wasn’t in any situation to take you two back through the same portal. He also couldn’t remain, or the humans would’ve killed him since it’s obvious that he’s a Nether Orb Cobra. Do you see a lot of Nether Orb Cobras in the living realm?"
"..."
Azbel shook his head. There was no Nether Orb Cobra Clan in the True Immortal World, as far as he knew. There could be some hidden ones or individual Nether Orb Cobra roaming about, but there was no clan. He was sure of it since he searched for his father when he was young.
"You have your answer." King Savur nodded, "The fact that your father returned and survived to this day is already a miracle. We have many reunions, but some also try to jeopardize us from within. Fortunately, your father wasn’t enslaved by the Nether Devils. Otherwise, we would’ve had to put him down ourselves."
"..."
Azbel took a deep breath. He moved his eyes, gazing at his father with a stern expression.
But looking at the other party starting at him, his expression finally softened.
"Is that all true?"
The father didn’t reply. He still stared at his son, looking as though he was in a dream.
"I... I never thought you would come here..."
"What?" Azbel’s brows squinted, anger swelling in his eyes.
"You were not born a Nether Orb Cobra. I left your mother a sizeable amount of resources I plundered in the war to take care of you... all I wished for you two is to live well without the terrifying battles that occur here. The human realm seemed like a far better place for you two to be safe."
"..." Azbel was stunned.
"Then... then why did you leave me these memories- memories of this place?"
Azbel’s father opened his mouth, "Any father would want his child to remember who his father is. I left you these memories so that you do not forget your origin. I didn’t want you to..."
He glanced at King Savur with unease.
King Savur abruptly laughed, "Brat, what you have done is a traitorous action. The clan needs new blood to survive. For you to wish your progenies not to come here, are you planning for our eventual demise?"
"I dare not." Azbel’s father shook his head.
He was also a Level Nine Empyrean Beast, but he was fully respectful to King Savur.
"Leave it." King Savur cocked his head, his serpent eyes flashing, "Now that Azbel has returned as a King-Tier Nether Orb Cobra, I suppose you could be granted a pardon and stuffed with wealth."
"Your praise is my honor, but I still do not wish for my son to spend his life here, waiting for nothing but death at the hands of the Nether Devils."
"What!?"
King Savur’s eyes went wide, blazing with killing intent.
"I don’t want." Azbel’s father shuddered, "He has come from the human realm. His place is not here, especially when we failed to provide him with care and resources! Especially when I failed to protect his mother!"
*Bang!~*
Everyone raised their brows in shock.
King Savur’s blow was so fast that they couldn’t even perceive the sound or the movement of the tail.
Azbel’s father was sent flying into the distance, blood spurting copiously in a long line.
Azbel barely took a moment to register what had happened. Nadia and the others also suddenly realized they were dealing with a beast clan, which was extremely hierarchical, and talking back and going against wouldn’t surely be forgiven.
"Father!"
Azbel hissed as he also turned into a massive King-Tier Nether Orb Cobra.
He blocked King Savur’s path, hissing with a warning while the purple orb on his forehead lit up.
"Brat, you dare to use our species technique against me!?"
King Savur hissed back.
Suddenly, it was as though two wild beasts were in a confrontation, their undulations filling the underground cave and alarming the other two King-Tier Beasts of the other caves. They hissed loudly from their location, wondering what was going on.
Nadia and the others were also forced back.
However, with Illumina, Nyoran, and Vereina protecting them, they were able to withstand the tumultuous undulations.
"Stop!"
Nadia echoed. Her voice, backed with the powerful aura of an Emperor-Tier Nether Springs Death Wolf, forcefully brought the undulations King Savur released to a stop. His squinted, serpent eyes fell on her, appearing extremely terrifying.
Azbel also held his species technique. He didn’t launch it yet.
Nonetheless, the atmosphere was extremely tense and silent. Any movement might invoke something or provoke someone to make a move.
King Savur and Nadia stared at each other for ten whole seconds. Her purple-golden eyes were completely imposing and held the aura of death; those who gazed at her felt like they would sink into the abyss.
In the end, King Savur turned around and slithered away.
"Do what you wish. Take the traitor with you."
