Death… And Me

Chapter 4517: Main Reason

Chapter 4517: Main Reason

Roan arrived at another pillar while still talking to Rean and the others through their soul connection. However, he did not touch the pillar this time. He had already confirmed that every Goodbye World Pillar seemed to lead to the same mysterious place, and repeatedly entering that space wasn’t giving him enough time to investigate everything he wanted.

Instead, he decided to give something else a try. ’I’m going out. You guys keep doing what you are doing.’

’Where are you going?’ Rean couldn’t help but ask, already suspecting that Roan had another troublesome idea in mind.

’I didn’t intend to see the Ghost right now, but after figuring all of this out, I think it is worth a try. I want to see this Ghost,’ Roan explained. The theory regarding the Goodbye World Pillars and the Ghost of Woster was still just a theory, but too many things seemed to fit together for him to simply ignore the possibility.

Kentucky immediately found it to be a bad idea. ’It is only a theory that the Ghost is connected to the pillar, isn’t it? What if it has nothing to do with it? No, first of all, can you really get far enough to see the Ghost? You heard the guys. The further into the Godly Creatures’ Territories, the more High-Level Godly Creatures you will find. That’s too risky.’

Roan had to admit Kentucky had a point. That said, he didn’t immediately decide to go completely alone either. Instead, he contacted Arcis through the RC. ’I need your help. The two of us are going to meet the Ghost of Woster.’

Arcis was taken aback. He truly didn’t expect that call, especially considering how quickly Roan had made the decision. -Are you crazy? That sounds like suicide!-

Roan shook his head in response. ’Don’t worry. I just need someone with a Law God level of power. You are the best choice since you can fly. I do believe this is connected to the isolation of Woster from the outside world.’

If the Ghost truly had something to do with the mechanism isolating Woster, then having a Law God nearby would make things considerably safer. More importantly, Arcis could fly at a speed that ordinary cultivators couldn’t hope to match, which meant they could spend less time exposed to the Godly Creatures’ Territories.

Arcis, however, still refused.

-Sorry, but that’s not going to happen. I am required to stay with Thery for the time being. You will have to find another way. Why don’t you wait until Thery finishes his investigation? Then we can conduct an investigation of our own.-

Roan’s expression didn’t change. ’No. We have no idea how long it will take Thery to find the reason for his race to have their ascension locked to this part of the Celestial Plane. You are going to the Thousand-Script Sect to the north, right? How long until you can investigate everything there? What if they have no answer whatsoever?’

Arcis knew exactly what Roan was getting at. Their investigation into the Thousand-Script Race could take days, months, or even much longer depending on how much information they managed to obtain. They couldn’t simply assume that the first person they met would give them every answer they needed, if anyone had at all.

-It is still better than going to look for the Ghost of Woster straight away. In any case, I have to stay with Thery for the time being. I hope you will give up this idea of yours or at least postpone it.-

Roan knew there was no point arguing further. Arcis had made his position clear, and Roan wasn’t going to waste time trying to convince him.

And so, Arcis ended the call.

Roan narrowed his eyes for a moment before making his decision. He then contacted the other members of his group through their soul connection. ’I guess I’m going alone then.’

’Are you sure?’ Rean asked. Unlike Arcis, he wasn’t trying to outright stop Roan, but he obviously wasn’t thrilled about the idea either.

Roan confirmed without hesitation. ’Yes, I’m sure.’

’In that case, you should bring my airplane with you,’ Rean said. ’We aren’t too far from you at the moment.’

Roan considered it briefly before accepting. ’Very well.’

He immediately began moving in the direction where he could feel Rean’s presence. If he was going to investigate the Ghost, having one of Rean’s airplanes would obviously be much better than traveling entirely on his own.

Back at the central district, Kentucky and Kachia were almost at the Rosvelt Sect.

They had spent quite some time walking around the Central District, occasionally stopping at shops or other interesting places along the way. Kentucky had enjoyed himself, but his attention had obviously been divided between their exploration and the conversation taking place among his group.

"Did something happen?" Kachia suddenly asked, noticing that Kentucky looked distracted.

"Hum? Oh!" Kentucky quickly answered. "Yes, Roan will be going out to do some investigation, so we were discussing it through the RCs."

"Going out?" Kachia was puzzled. "What exactly is he trying to find out?"

"He said he wants to see the Ghost of Woster," Kentucky answered.

Kachia immediately understood why Kentucky looked distracted. "That looks dangerous for sure. Doesn’t he need to get deep into the Godly Creatures’ Territory?"

Kentucky confirmed with a nod. "That’s what I told him."

"Oh..." Kachia smiled when she noticed his reaction. "Does that mean you are worrying about him?"

"Wait! What?!" Kentucky had a jump scare, almost stumbling as he turned toward her. "Like hell I am! He can go straight to hell for all that I care!"

Kachia couldn’t help but laugh at how quickly he had reacted. Kentucky had denied it so forcefully that it almost had the opposite effect.

Kentucky stopped for a moment and thought about what he had just said.

"Well, conceptually speaking, Roan lived there for a very long time already, so it wouldn’t be that much of a difference..." He paused, then shook his head. "Alright, it would be better if he went to Heaven. I’m sure he would hate it."

"Hahaha!" Kachia laughed out loud. She had already heard from Kentucky during their journey that Roan was once a Death Spirit, so she understood the joke immediately. There wasn’t really any reason to conceal that fact here in the Celestial Plane anyway.

However, after laughing for a while, Kachia became serious again. "If that bothers you, we can come back to check the Rosvelt Sect another time. I doubt the Sect will move somewhere else."

"No need." Kentucky refused to relent. "Let’s go there and see if we can join."

Kachia nodded. She wasn’t going to force him to turn back, especially since Kentucky had already made his decision.

As mentioned before, the Rosvelt Sect was the strongest power in Woster. It was also the only power that had control over an entire section of the city alone: the Central District. The other sections were constantly being fought over by many different powers, with alliances forming and collapsing whenever someone saw an opportunity to seize more territory.

That wasn’t to say no one coveted the Central District. If anything, everyone would have loved to take it away from Rosvelt. So much so that there had been countless alliances throughout Woster’s long history where various organizations joined forces in an attempt to challenge Rosvelt’s control.

All of them had failed miserably.

As a result, the Rosvelt Sect also became the power everyone wanted to join more than anything else. Different from the regions outside Besgol, cultivators in Woster were extremely protective of their knowledge. Techniques, cultivation methods, arrays, pills, and countless other resources were hardly taught to outsiders. If you wanted access to the best ones, you had to enter Rosvelt, pure and simple.

By controlling such information, Rosvelt had maintained the strongest experts in Woster for countless years, which in turn further consolidated its position. The stronger Rosvelt became, the more cultivators wanted to join, and the more talented experts joined, the more powerful Rosvelt became.

Still, Dlaval City had almost a hundred billion residents. The Rosvelt Sect couldn’t maintain its position if it kept itself limited to the number of members all the time. Thus, it always accepted new recruits, as long as they could prove that they were a cut above the rest.

Now, Kentucky and Kachia were about to find out more about the process.

The Sect Entrances themselves were closed to any visitors. However, there were various buildings in front of the entrance gates where one could go to acquire information or apply for recruitment. As one could expect, those buildings were almost always crowded.

Kachia and Kentucky joined one of the various queues, which made them miss the much more organized system of the Besgol Region’s Network. Compared to what they were accustomed to, this place was truly lagging behind. There were simply too many people and too few ways to organize them efficiently.

Nonetheless, they eventually reached the counter, where the worker behind it wore the Sect’s attire.

The guy looked at Kentucky and Kachia. "Put your hands on the device."

Kentucky immediately noticed that it was the same device they had been required to touch back when they entered the Central District. It seemed that the Rosvelt Sect used the same system to identify everyone entering its territory, which wasn’t surprising considering how strict its control over the Central District was.

Both of them did as the worker said, and he soon found their information on his terminal. After checking it for a moment, he nodded. "First-timers, uh? Let me guess, you wish to join the Sect."

"Well, seems like that’s what most people come here for, right?" Kachia answered with a smile.

The worker nodded. "It sure is. Anyway, let’s not waste each other’s time anymore."

He looked at the two of them for another moment before continuing, clearly accustomed to dealing with countless people who came here with the exact same goal.

"If you want to join the Rosvelt Sect, then you will have to understand that simply having enough cultivation isn’t sufficient. We have standards, and those standards are different depending on which position you are trying to obtain."

The worker continued. "So, tell me what you two are looking for, and I’ll explain the requirements."
