Chapter 2596: First Mission in the Military
Chapter 2596: First Mission in the Military
"Don’t worry, I will definitely come out before then," Yuan assured them before entering the training room.
Inside was another hallway with multiple rooms.
A notification popped up the moment Yuan entered one of the available rooms.
<You will be teleported to the Simulated Training Area in 3 seconds>
<3>
<2>
<1>
After being teleported, Yuan found himself in a familiar area that resembled the waiting room in Gaia’s Sanctum.
<Reading Player’s Status>
<Transferring Player Status from Gaia’s Sanctum>
<Transfer Successful>
<You can now challenge up to level 46>
Without hesitation, Yuan immediately challenged level 46.
<You will be teleported in 3 seconds>
Three seconds later, Yuan was teleported to the arena, where he reunited with the faceless entity that had dominated him during his time in Gaia’s Sanctum.
"I’m back, you bastard," Yuan announced to the entity with a cold smile on his face.
"Foolish mortal!"
Just like it did in Gaia’s Sanctum, the faceless entity spoke the same two words.
After acquiring his weapon of choice, a sword, Yuan immediately started fighting his opponent.
<Your restriction on Eternal Essence has been temporarily lifted>
However, to nobody’s surprise, he died shortly afterward.
Yet, Yuan did not stop there and continued fighting it over and over again, just as he did in Gaia’s Sanctum.
Time passed quickly, and in the blink of an eye, it was almost the start of a new week.
After hundreds of deaths and no progress, Yuan left the training room.
"You’re finally out," Sergeant Quang sighed in relief the moment he saw Yuan coming out.
"Am I late?"
"Not if we leave right now."
Without waiting for Yuan’s response, Sergeant Quang and Sergeant Bing started walking toward the exit of the training facility.
Seeing this, Yuan quickly followed them.
"What level were you training on?" Sergeant Quang asked him as they moved.
"46."
"..."
Both Sergeant Quang and Sergeant Bing abruptly stopped moving and turned to look at him with widened eyes.
Yuan chuckled at their reaction and continued, "I’m joking. I was training on level 25."
"I-Is that so... You nearly gave me a heart attack," Sergeant Bing sighed.
"Still, level 25 is quite impressive," said Sergeant Quang. "My record is level 29."
As they continued moving a moment later, Yuan asked, "Do you know what the mission entails?"
"General Mei didn’t tell you?"
"She said something about clearing trash outside the city, and that I’d understand it once I get there."
"In that case, we won’t spoil the fun for you. This will be your first time leaving the city, after all," said Sergeant Bing.
"Hm? How did you know that this is going to be my first time leaving the city?" Yuan asked with a raised eyebrow. "Did General Mei tell you?"
"What are you talking about?" Sergeant Bing also raised an eyebrow, looking puzzled. "Civilians aren’t allowed to leave the city, so of course this would be your first time."
"Oh... right..." Yuan muttered with a stiff smile, pretending it had merely slipped his mind.
In truth, he hadn’t known about the restriction until now.
Some time later, they entered a small room, where two others were already waiting.
"Hm?"
"Huh?"
"Oh?" Yuan muttered in a somewhat surprised voice after seeing these two individuals, as he recognized both of them.
"Sorry for the wait, Shi Fa, Wu Wang," Sergeant Quang said.
Since they shared the same rank and were close friends, he addressed them by name rather than title.
"The hell? What is he doing here?" Wu Wang asked while pointing at Yuan.
"He’ll be joining us for the mission," said Sergeant Bing.
"Seriously? Didn’t he just join the military like a week ago? Which idiot is sending a boot like him outside the city already?"
"That would be General Mei."
"..."
Wu Wang’s facial features immediately stiffened.
"I-I didn’t say anything just now..." he said a moment later with a forced smile.
"I don’t intend to question the General’s judgment, but are we sure we should bring him with us? We’re not going sightseeing, but clearing out those ’things’."
"Then what do you suggest we do? Go against General Mei’s orders and leave him behind?" Sergeant Quang said while shaking his head.
"..."
The room immediately became awkwardly quiet.
"Are you really worried about me?" Yuan suddenly said, breaking the silence.
"How cute."
"What?" Shi Fa frowned.
"Now that I am in the military, you can stop pretending not to know me."
"What is he talking about?" Sergeant Bing inquired with a curious yet puzzled face.
"This isn’t our first time meeting," Yuan explained. "We met a few months ago at Gaia’s Sanctum, and they even lost to me... in a two-versus-one."
"What?!" Sergeant Quang and Sergeant Bing exclaimed in shock.
Wu Wang rubbed his eyes and sighed out loud, "Did you really have to bring that up? It’s not like we actually fought. We simply played a game of tag."
"Whether it was a real fight or not, both of you know what I am capable of better than anyone in the military right now, including General Mei." Yuan shrugged.
"Is that true?" Sergeant Bing asked the two.
"It’s true..." Shi Fa sighed. "I won’t go into details, but if anything happens out there, he’ll likely be the safest out of all of us."
"However..." Wu Wang then spoke, "Just being able to survive won’t be enough out there since our mission requires actual combat."
"So what? Do you want me to prove myself through a real fight with one of you or something?" Yuan asked.
"..."
Wu Wang and Shi Fa exchanged glances with each other.
After a moment of silence, Shi Fa said, "No... You can come with us. Even if you can’t fight on the front lines, you can still support us from the rear with your shooting skills."
"You make it sound like we’re going to be fighting dangerous monsters or something out there. Now I really cannot wait to go out there," Yuan remarked with an excited smile on his face.
