Chapter 2595: Gravity Room

Chapter 2595: Gravity Room

"What about the soldiers? I can assume that we won’t go underground like the civilians, right?" Yuan asked after learning the truth.

Mei Feng nodded and said, "Obviously. Who else will fight the invaders if not us? You’ll experience it yourself soon, too. The training drill, that is."

"I can’t wait." Yuan smiled.

"Anyway, let’s get to the main reason I called you here today."

Mei Feng’s expression suddenly turned serious.

"This may seem sudden, but I am going to give you a mission. I know you just joined, and most new soldiers don’t receive their first mission until their second year in the military, but you want fast promotions, right?"

He nodded.

"Of course. What kind of mission is it?"

"Clearing trash outside the city."

"...Excuse me?" Yuan muttered, his eyebrows raised in a puzzled manner.

"It’s not literal trash. You’ll understand once you get there," Mei Feng said.

"Will I be doing this alone? I have never been outside the city."

"Of course not. You’ll be going with a team—a squad consisting of soldiers that I trust. I am not stupid enough to send you on your first mission alone."

"When do I start?"

"Next week. In the meantime, you can do whatever you want."

"I understand."

"If you have any more questions, you can ask them after the mission."

Yuan left her office shortly after.

As he was being escorted back to his living quarters, Yuan asked the Sergeants, "What do soldiers typically do on a daily basis?"

"We train," Sergeant Quang replied.

"What sort of training?"

"It’d be easier to show you. Want to take a look?"

"Let’s."

Instead of returning to the living quarters, Yuan was escorted to the military building.

Once inside, they led him to the training area.

"You can find all of the training facilities here. It offers numerous training programs, ranging from combat proficiency to physical conditioning. Take this room, for example..."

Sergeant Quang stopped in front of a room that had the words ’Gravity Room’ engraved on top of the entrance.

"This is the Gravity Room, where you can temper your body under increased gravity. Want to give it a try?"

"Might as well, since we’re already here."

Yuan followed Sergeant Quang into the room while Sergeant Bing waited outside.

Inside was a long hallway lined with numbered doors on either side. Some of these numbers emitted a green glow, while others glowed red.

"Any of the green rooms are available. The red ones are occupied."

Sergeant Quang gave him a quick rundown.

They entered the closest available room, number 17, a moment later.

The room was surprisingly spacious. At its center stood a mechanical pillar equipped with a screen and several buttons.

"You can adjust the gravity with that device, but it can also be voice-controlled. For example..."

"System, increase the gravity by one level."

The next moment, Yuan felt the atmosphere in the room shift as the weight pressing down on his body doubled.

"Each level doubles the gravity. In other words, level two subjects you to four times the normal gravity."

"Pretty neat. How many levels does it go up to?"

"Twenty levels."

"So a little over a million times normal gravity, huh?" Yuan muttered.

"What’s the highest level anyone has reached?"

"Level 12, so about four thousand times normal gravity."

"What’s your limit?" Yuan then asked.

"My limit is level 6."

"In that case... System, set gravity to level 5."

The gravity slowly increased, eventually reaching 32 times the normal gravity.

"Not bad..." Yuan muttered, looking completely fine, as if the increased gravity was not affecting him in the slightest.

"You... what rank is your physique at?" Sergeant Quang stared at him with wide eyes.

"Inexhaustible."

"The same physique rank as me? Yet, you can withstand level 5 much more easily than me." Sergeant Quang sighed.

"How about it? Want to try level 6?"

"Sure."

"System, set gravity to level 6."

The gravity doubled almost instantly, reaching 64 times the normal gravity.

Sergeant Quang immediately started sweating profusely, his knees bent as if struggling to withstand the increased gravity.

Meanwhile, Yuan’s legs remained straight, looking fine even under the new gravity.

Seeing this, Sergeant Quang couldn’t help but ask, "Have you trained like this before?"

"Something like that."

A few minutes later, Sergeant Quang said, "Alright, let’s stop here. I’m soaked in sweat. System, end training."

The gravity swiftly returned to normal.

"This is a popular training area for those who want to improve their physiques," Sergeant Quang said as they walked out of the room.

They moved to the next training area afterward.

"This is the shooting range, where you can practice your aim. Though I doubt you’ll need to train your aim anytime soon since you can shoot even better than many elite soldiers already."

"This is the sparring room. If you want to spice up your training by sparring with other soldiers, you can do so here."

"Have you ever tried Endless Assault in Gaia’s Sanctum?" Sergeant Quang suddenly asked as they approached the ’Simulated Combat’ room.

"I have," said Yuan.

"This room is exactly like that. The enemies and difficulty are the exact same, too."

"Oh? The exact same? How many floors or levels does it go up to?"

"Same as Endless Assault."

A smile tugged at Yuan’s lips after hearing this, as this would allow him to fight the being on the 46th floor without needing to return to Gaia’s Sanctum!

"There’s no limit to how many times I can attempt a level, right?" Yuan asked, just to be sure.

"No. You can attempt it as many times as you like. Moreover, your record from Gaia’s Sanctum is automatically transferred here, so you can start from whichever floor you reached there."

"Alright. I have decided. I am going to train here," Yuan declared.

"You don’t have to wait for me since I won’t be coming out anytime soon," he said to them.

"Even if you say that, we cannot abandon our duty." Sergeant Bing shook her head.

"Also, we have to stay here and make sure you come out in time for your mission," Sergeant Quang added.
