Clan Prosperity Starting With My Servant Girls

Chapter 624: The Governor?

Chapter 624: The Governor?

Lin Xuan Qi figured that Zhao Geng Nian must be asking for resources like Spirit Stones and money from the different sects, clans and families next.

He wasn’t sure if he was correct, but if he was, it might affect his progress in his businesses.

The funds he had were needed for the daily expenses.

With all of the temporary workers working on the shopping mall, daily expenses of the factories, retail shops and the mansion, he needed the liquidity to be able to do so.

There was also the need for him to buy the Spirit Herbs and resources like talisman papers and ink for his cultivation.

Everything costs money and he might have some headache if Zhao Geng Nian levied some sort of tax on them.

However, there wasn’t much he could do about it for now.

He needed to find out what Zhao Geng Nian wanted and his next step of action first.

Right now, Lin Xuan Qi could only ensure that the shopping mall was done in time and take things step by step to see what Zhao Geng Nian was up to.

"Master Lin, did you hear from the Guardian of the City just now?" Old Heng and his friends came up to him, when he was checking on the progress of the construction with Old Shao.

Their faces had a look of worry on them.

Lin Xuan Qi nodded his head at them and said, "I did. He would most likely get the Governor to write an edict asking us to contribute to the Qing Feng Sect’s efforts in fighting against the cultivators from the north."

"That’s what we thought too." Old Heng said and his friends nodded their heads.

"So, what can we do about it?"

"Yeah. I can barely pay my autumn taxes to the emperor every year."

"Shouldn’t the imperial court do something about it?"

"The soldiers in the city should be the ones contributing instead."

"Even the Governor should be doing more than what he is doing right now."

Old Heng’s friends chattered and they gave out a long sigh when they mentioned the Governor.

There was a brief moment where the Governor had tried to make things better for everyone in the city, but somehow, the Governor had turned back into how he was suddenly.

It was as if the Governor had been changed into someone else.

He had let Zhao Geng Nian and the Qing Feng Sect do whatever they wanted ever since.

Lin Xuan Qi frowned when he heard about the Governor.

He hadn’t heard from the Governor for a very long time since the attack on the Sima Family mansion happened.

This time, he might have to pay a visit to the Governor to check on him.

Maybe he could influence the Governor not to do what Zhao Geng Nian wanted.

While he was in his thoughts, Old Heng and his friends glanced at him, anxiously waiting for his response.

All of them were eager to see if he had any ideas to help them.

After working with him in the franchise business and how he had earned a lot from the arena, they knew that he was one with a very different mindset and viewpoint compared to them.

He was the first person to come into their mind when they were worried about the impending actions from Zhao Geng Nian.

Lin Xuan Qi saw how they were looking at him.

It was flattering to him, with their hopes placed on him, but it wasn’t something that he had an answer to yet.

He gave out a short sigh and said, "I will try and figure something out when I get back.

"In the meantime, just do what we do best first.

"Make more money and be ready."

A tinge of disappointment was on their faces for a moment before their faces turned normal again.

At least he would be thinking about it. They thought silently in their minds.

Business was getting harder day by day with what was happening in the battle with the Da Mang Dynasty.

They were desperate to avoid being taxed more if they could help it.

"Thanks, Master Lin. In that case, we shall not intrude on you any longer." Old Heng cupped his hands at Lin Xuan Qi and said.

Lin Xuan Qi nodded at him and replied, "Don’t worry too much, Master Heng.

"I’m sure we can get out of this successfully."

Old Heng’s friends came up to him and bid him farewell before they left.

Lin Xuan Qi got back to check on the progress of the construction site and it was at least going well without much hiccups so far.

And from what he had seen, it might be ready very soon within a month or so.

Half of the works were done and he could get to recruiting the management and operation staff for the shopping mall first.

"Father-in-law, out of all the temporary workers, are there any of them that are skilled and hardworking enough to join the Lin Clan?" Lin Xuan Qi turned to Old Shao, who was standing beside him, and asked.

Old Shao nodded his head and said, "There are around ten of them."

"Great, I would need them to be able to fix and repair any damages to the shopping mall after it is completed.

"Maybe you can help and ask them whether they would be interested?

"The terms of their employment would be the same as what your men are getting right now."

Old Shao took note of what he wanted and said, "I will ask them later."

He glanced at Lin Xuan Qi and he could still recall how it was when he went over to the Lin Mansion.

There were only a few servants other than him in it.

But now, it was a far cry from those days.

His son-in-law was already an owner of many businesses, and in charge of so many people’s livelihood.

And from what he had just heard, Lin Xuan Qi wasn’t done yet.

He hoped that he would still be around to witness the things that he would be able to accomplish, and also witness the birth of his grandson.

"Father-in-law, if everything is fine here, I will go to the factories to check on them." Lin Xuan Qi wasn’t aware of what Old Shao was thinking about and he bid him farewell.
